MaryAm - I'll pm you the thread. I agree with Faith on all aspects, it's a personal journey and you do have to be in the right frame of mind for it. Great feeling after detoxing! I like the fact that after I had fasted last year I had a better attitude towards foods, eating right etc!

Faith - I'm on board with ya!

OK I am mad!! My computer froze up and I couldn't get my post to go through and now I'm stuck with all these posts. Then the board went down for maintenance and now I've got these multiple posts I can't delete because by the time I could get back on it wouldn't let me go back. Maybe a minor thing I know but it's just aggravating.

I just counted 7! I didn't think any of them had gotten through and now this.

Anyway...before that I had nothing to complain about, LOL! My first day on QOD went splendid and I actually didn't feel like pulling my hair out. With this, on fasting days you are allowed minimum calories of 300 (400 if working out) and I got mine from the Atkins shakes and cream for my coffee. Now, tomorrow I eat!

Here's what Monday looked like:

**liquid fast w/shakes

BEVS: water 96 oz
1.5 Atkins shakes
3 coffees, cream + 1 splenda
senna tea
grn tea packets (3)
diet dp

WORKOUT? N

WT: 179

Happy 4th of July Faith and all!

Glad you're trying out the fasting again Faith... I too would not be where I am today without that first fast last year! Learning so much about myself and my body and all my awful habits. Such an awakening to a new me...

I'll stop by MIF later this week and cheer you all on! Whoo ohooooo

Happy 4th of July back, Marci! And to the rest of you!

I second your every word on fasting, Marci! When done properly it really does aid in confronting our issues with food. It gave me some time to literally stop and think about what I was feeling without running straight to the fridge which I would so often do. So many occasions I would catch myself harping on some painful incident from my past and immediately I would want to go find something to eat just to distract my mind. Even when it was just out of sheer boredom and loneliness. It was a real "WOW" moment the first time it hit me. 90 percent of the time it really wasn't even hunger that had me reaching for something to eat!

And there is no way I would be this far along at this point in time if it weren't for fasting. It was a god-send to me! I just think if only I had become better educated on it years sooner and how do-able it is I wouldn't have gotten anywhere close to the size I did. Every other time in my life I eventually gave up because I would lose all sense of motivation and purpose. I suddenly realized I am in control and not at the total mercy of my body's own crazy idiosyncrasies!

Thanks, Maryam! I don't think I kept those 3 lbs. off though.

I haven't weighed in since yesterday morning and I am afraid to. I had another off plan day today and screwed up royally again. Why? Because of one stupid lemon cookie! I had simply gone into the pantry to get some splenda for my fresh pot of coffee and I had seen that the kids left the bag of cookies open for the ten zillionth time but this time instead of closing the bag up and walking away like I have been doing, I reached in and grabbed one.

I turned it over and over in my fingertips for a moment, examining its beauty and the potential consequences if I were to eat it. Well, needless to say, I chose the consequence. Then I chose another 50 of them consumed throughout the evening into today. Then I practically cleaned out the pantry and the fridge with this, that, and whatever. *sigh* I know if I had just moved on after that one little cookie then it probably wouldn't have set me back an ounce. For some reason I just couldn't do that.

OK *hangs head in shame* I am being way more open with you guys then I ever intended to be. Oh well, ya know I really don't mind half the world knowing of the daily struggles with my weight. I just cannot come on here and say I am being this model LC'er and setting the perfect example for anybody. You can be assured though that when I come here and say I did well and stayed OP then I am being absolutely, 100 percent honest with you.

Tomorrow is a new day. I am kicking this one to the curb and moving forward.

Just for the record...

Wednesday:

**off plan

Some beef pot roast + a whole lot of other junk

BEVS:
water, 8 oz (worst ever)
grn tea packet (1)
2 cherry coke zero
diet dp
coffee w/milk & splenda

WORKOUT? N

WT: no weigh-in

Sorry to hear you didn't make the best choices. I know exactly how that feels, as I did similar today! I think with myself I use a loss as an excuse to do it, rather than it being a reason not too. (If that even makes sense!) I also find if I 'get away' with cheating once, and still lose, then it makes me tend to keep pushing the boundaries.

I even have a conversation in my head saying I'm not going to eat whatever it is, and I'm still saying it even when I know deep down that I will/am.

But tomorrow is another day isn't it, and if we just get back on track and keep going atleast we're still faced in the right direction.

Fairy! I know exactly what you mean. I think that may be part of what's been messing me up too. I know whenever I see my weight start to creep up into the upper 180's it is time to haul you-know-what and quit playing around. But as soon as I slide back into the 70's the tension eases a little then next thing you know I mess myself up again.

It is so difficult to explain why we'll do these sorts of things to ourselves when we know how badly we want to hit goal and have the weight off because it really makes absolutely no sense. Go figure. Every single morning I begin by telling myself the same thing..."will not". Somehow I think that makes me want to have those things even more, kwim?

Faith - Sorry to hear you didn't do so well yesterday. But you're right - kick it to the curb and get on with your plan. I think sometimes a tiny thing like a cookie can trigger a binge. For me, it is anything sweetened with corn syrup - candy, cookies......If I eat chocolate or candy or cookies sweetened with sugar I can take a couple bites and move on - but that dang corn sweetener will have me bingeing everytime. Beside making me feel horrible.

Fairy - ITA- we do tend to use a loss as an excuse to cheat! That's why I think a reward system is a valuable tool. When I set my goals for the week or the month I also set my rewards. If my goal is to lose 2 pounds this week and I make my goal I get my reward - may be a galaxy bar (my favorite chocolate) or something like that. But since it is a small goal - ONLY 1 REWARD!!!!!!! Then when I make my bigger goals I give myself a facial or a massage or something BIG. It gives me something to look forward to besides a number on the scale and it really helps me stick with my plan.

Love the reward system you have laid out, Maryam! I'll have to give it a shot and promise myself I'll stick to it. In the past I would promise myself something after a certain milestone but my mistake was always putting off doing it until it never happened. My big reward for hitting 158 is to have a perm done on my hair (it's straight as a board ). I just have to keep on top of that and make sure it gets done when I get there!

Faith, I print out calendars and post it on the fridge door. I have weekly and monthly printouts. My weekly calendar I list my daily goals in each block and on the bottom I list my reward for meeting all my goals that week. I get those little colored stars and if I meet my goals each day I get a star! If i get all my stars at the end of the week I get my reward! And I MAKE SURE I get it. On the monthly printout I print my weekly goals and on the bottom I put my reward for meeting the monthly (BIG) goals. If I meet my weekly goals I get a star for that week. You understand? I know it sounds silly but it really does help me to stay motivated and on track.

Yes! Yes! Yes! If I tell myself, you cannot _____. I will most definitely do it. If I tell myself I can't have _____. I will definitely have it!

It's psychological. So I try to play the game. I try not to focus on what I can't. I take the negative out. It helps. It seems like a little thing, and maybe it is, but little things add up to big results, y'know?

No! Say it aint so! :faint: A Texas girl with "straight as a board" hair?!?! That's your problem. Get you some big Texas-sized hair, girl! That'll solve all your problems right there!!
Note: I can say this because I have Mississippi hair Obviously, not as big as Texas hair, but then again, what is?

Yep, a true, honest travesty indeed being not one who was "blessed" with the big Texas hair! Now, that's not speaking of my big, poofy '80s hair days! It may have been "artificial" but it was big!

The "I won't" pledge has absolutely got to change for me. I didn't use to think that way while in the process of losing that first 120 lbs. so instead, this morning I awoke telling myself, "today you will allow yourself "these things" and eat until you are satisfied!" how is that??

P.S. I am gonna have to try out Maryam's reward system complete with little, colored stars! Then that means I have to get organized too.
