Oh, don't even get me started on talking about weight gain. My MIL is the queen of that! I love her but she is obsessed with talking about people's weight. It is so embarrassing. Back when I was fat, DH had to tell her to back off of me and him about our weight. It is nice to have her silence right now! She is proud of me.

Beth,

I can relate to your "family" issue. My dad is very, very heavy and has adult onset diabetes. His "cure" for too much food of any type is to just adjust his insulin. He is so uncomfortable, his knees hurt, and he can hardly walk up stairs. Can't go anywhere fun like a street fair or festival and walk. He has to borrow my BIL's electric wheelchair scooter to get around. He just turned 73 and I want so much for him. He eats huge amounts of food --extremely fatty and full of carbs. He snacks on crackers at night after my mother goes to bed. My mom says she wakes up and there will be tons of wrappers in the trash.

I have just resigned myself that I cannot do anything about the situation -- other than be an example of better health -- even after trying and trying. He just has to want to do it for himself. Exhausting!

I think when we find something that truly works for us -- it is so natural to want to share it with everyone we care about and love.

Anyway -- I loved your pictures. You have done an amazing job taking care of yourself and eating right! You are definitely a success story
.

I guess we all have family like this. It just hurts my heart to see them go down that dead end road when they can turn around and make a few changes and live a long healthy life.

Thank you for your words of encouragement!

It's really not funny, but that is so my mom. My dad has lost tons of weight since he's been so sick, but overweight runs in our family, and you'd think since they were both overweight, she would feel some sympathy for others. Not. All us girls (four of us) have struggled with our weight, although I have been the heaviest of all of us.

Soon....NOT ANYMORE SUE!

My weight is up this morning...132.4. I know exactly why too. For one, I got up yesterday and exercised on the treadmill (Hill walk). The other, last night our business partners wanted to go out to eat. They ended up picking Wild Wings. I ate some wings that I knew had sugar in the sauce. I am going to have to change my choices when I eat there again. We usually get a couple of platters with 10 or more flavors to save cost. Next time it is a salad and plain wings for me! I gain every time I go. Plus my head was killing me last night after getting home.

I will be gone all afternoon today. My brother is coming back up (he's here until Mon.) and we will be going to get DS#3 and have lunch. Then some shopping and out to see DS#1 & DS#2's cross country meet. Yes, DS #2 is now on the team. Hope everyone has a fantastic day! No cheating....drink water....get in some exercise!!! I have one out of the way...exercise!

Menu from yesterday:

B~2 eggs(1.2) w/ cheese(1), leftover steak(0), coffee w/ HC(1)=3.2
L~Homemade taco salad w/ sc=4
S~2 squares of Lindt chocolate(2.5) & T. of peanut butter(2.5)=5
D~Wild Wing Cafe'-10 wings (various flavors), celery, ranch=12(estimate)
S~CCD milk (had heartburn)=3

T~27.2 + hidden carbs (I wouldn't say they were all that hidden if you ask me! )

Ketone stick this morning: trace
Water yesterday: 85oz. (did better)
Exercise yesterday: .8 mile 20 minute Hill Walk (treadmill inclines as you are walking)

Good morning Beth.. ..

love the pics.. and you have no reason to be embarrassed about going on about this woe... the picture tells all. it wasn't until I had a before and after pic that I printed out and showed people.. that they actually noticed..
but I realize that when you are as big as I am.. it takes.. A LOT of weight lost to even make a dent...... and even though I have gained most of the 80 pounds that I lost.. all my moms sisters still talk about it when I am around.. saying how they need to lose weight.. .. and if you seen then.. they do not..lol.. I was blessed with my fathers side of the family.. they are all over weight... I know that thats not all the problem.. I AM... although they have proven that genetics is part of it.. that shouldn't be an excuse.... just means those of us with that problem just need to work harder then those who don't...right.. RIGHT..lol

well the boss is here now so I need to run.. have fun with your brother today.. love ya..

Good morning Beth.

I just love wings. Need to make some soon. I like to bake them with some spices until they are very crisp and then make a buffalo sauce for dipping. DH could eat these every night.

Have fun with your brother today. Nice that he can go to the cross country meet with you. My youngest has a meet today, but I can't go so DH will.

Beth,

Enjoy your day with your family. Mine's in Northern Cal so it's not as easy -- an hour flight really. But, it needs to be planned. So, know that you are blessed that way.

First of all, congrats to DS#2 for making the track team! How lucky both boys are doing the same thing, so you don't have to drive to 2 different things and have to alternate what you attend!

I am right there with you on the issues with your Mom and Dad. My sister and I talk about it regularly. Mom was diagnosed with diabetes 4 years ago, and Dad is having loads of weight related health issues. My Mom thinks having a big zucchini muffin from Paradise Bakery with her coffee every morning is a healthy breakfast, and you don't even want to know what my Dad is doing! (My sister calls them "nutritionally retarded"! ) I know that they are tired of my touting the benefits LC lifestyle, so I have been trying to keep mum. It's so hard!

I really haven't found the answer yet, and pray that they will come around before it's too late!

Have a glorious day! Sorry I hi-jacked so much space in your journal. It's just a comfort finding someone facing similar challenges!

You gave me a good laugh this morning and I SO needed it! Don't you EVER worry about writing too much in my journal. I WANT to hear from everyone here!!

Dog-gone it!!!!! My weight went more up this morning!! I weighed 133.2. (Repeat to self over and over today.....It's just WATER, It's just WATER, It's just WAAAATTTEERRRRR! I need some encouragement this morning ladies. This is really hard for me to see the scales go up when I was on track to get into the 120's. I know it did this last time I started to exercise regularly, but I promised myself (but just haven't told all of you) that I was going to make Oct. a for real exercise month. I would like to shoot for exercising 20 times this month and hopeful for making it every day. We shall see.

The other thing about my weight going up that I have to be aware of is that yesterday I had to eat out twice. So, I know I probably had too much salt. Also, I was so active yesterday....getting up and getting on the treadmill, running to get DS, running around the mall to find DS #2 some running shoes, then running to get to the cross-country meet, walking tons at the cross-country meet across fields pushing the stroller back and forth to see the runners, then only to get home and get the kids ready for bed by myself (DH and my brother went out...which was my idea). Funny thing is I don't feel all that bloated. I even had a bathroom trip. Usually I had tell when my weight is up. My muscles do feel sore.

I have been on edge lately. I jumped all over DH this morning. Lately he has really been getting it. I need to do some soul searching to figure out what's going on. I want to blame it on hormones, but that would be easy. It might be that I just need some down time. Anyway, I am sick of apologizing for my behavior and would like for that sweet person inside to emerge again.

Menu from yesterday:

B~Green shake w/ flax seed oil(not that great)=4
S~Cheese "crackers"=1
L~Red Lobster-Salad(3), ranch(2), Shrimp Skewers(1), a couple of broc. florets(1)=7
D~O'Charley's-1/2 salad(2), ranch(2), steak(0), loaded broccoli(5)=9
D~Cream cheese mixed with Chocolate stevia(2), coffee w/ HC(.8)=2.8

T~23.8

Ketone stick this morning: Moderate
Water yesterday: 100 oz.
Exercise yesterday: 1.2 miles on treadmill, running around town, at least 1/2 mile or so at the meet

Hi Beth! Sorry i have been absent lately. This weekend was just crazy. And I still feel behind because of it! I just went back and read everything from where I left off. Good work on the exercising. It may make you retain water for awhile, but once you get in the habit, it shouldn't affect your weight negatively. Its just getting into the habit that is hard! Sorry you are up a bit. I know the frustration. But you lost in September and I know you will lose in October, as well! Just keep it up and think about where you were LAST October! You've come a long way, baby! Last October, I probably weighed 156 lbs. Despite being mad at myself for my total self-sabotage of late, I'd still rather be a grumpy 138 than totally miserable 156!

Hiya Beth..

well.. if I had to guess.. i would guess this little up on the scale was muscle.. if your exercising.. muscles weigh more then fat.. so.. that could be it.. and the eating out as well.. but continue to exercise.. you have lost a lot of weight and when your body catches up the scale will move in a downward fall again....

I may not be practicing what I preach.. but from what I read on here.. that's how it works.. so keep it up.. and it will fall off again.. or if it doesn't.. it may shift.. your body may just be "happy" at this weight.. and you just may need to shift it.. KWIM?..

I wish you a good morning in the am.. for that scale to bless you .. if not.. smile.. and remember what you have accomplished.. it will happen..

love yaaa

Thank you for your encouragement and kind words Monet. Your well wishes helped almost a half a pound leave!

My scales went a little down this morning. I was 132.8. At least I am back in the 132's. I weighed myself last night and knew they would be up even more. I am surprised.

Yesterday was such a busy day. I wish I could just stay in the bed all day today. I am tired and my muscles still sore. We were out late last night at our business partners house helping them set up a computer. I was also helping Kim make a cold veggie pizza for a luncheon. After we got done she cut me a little piece. I had to taste for not being rude. It was good. I think I could adapt it to LC. The way we made it was we took croissant dough and rolled them out like a pizza crust. We took that and baked it. While it was baking, we finely chopped (food processor) broccoli, carrots, onions, all colored peppers & celery. The "sauce" was cream cheese mixed with package of buttermilk ranch powder. When the crust cools you add the cream cheese, layer the veggies and add mozzarella on top. I think I would have added some olives or cherry tomatoes for effect.

Today....more errands. I will try to take it easy while I am at home. Who cares today if the house is a mess. My new worry is about something I watched on ABC news on booster seats. There was a family on there that had a son who was killed in a car accident because he was riding in a booster seat instead of a car seat. If you don't know what booster seats are, they are seats that aren't attached to the vehicle but are used to lift up the child so that the seat belt can go across them better. We had bought DS#3 one to put in DH's truck for him to take him to school. They are much less expensive than a car seat. After reading what had happened and all the other cases I am afraid of having him in this seat. I went to look for a car seat that goes up higher in weight and there was only one I saw and it was almost $300. There are lots of seats that after a child gets over 40 pounds they transfer into this booster seat. There are few that keep the child in the 5 point harness up to 80-100 pounds. The studies are finding that kids are taking their arms out of the seat belt or sliding out of them during an accident if they are sitting in a booster. Check out the story here http://www.abcnews.go.com/GMA/Consum...3673873&page=1
Anyways, I spent yesterday looking at the seats and I will go to some more stores today to look at them. Hopefully I can find one that doesn't cost so much. If not, my child is more important than money.

Menu from yesterday:

B~2 eggs(1.2), bacon(.1), coffee w/HC(.8)=2.1
S~1 tsp. peanut butter(.6), 1 cup CCD milk(3)=3.6
L~Cabbage & Hamburger(4.4), 1 T. Parmesan, 1 T. sour cream(1)=5.4
S~Homemade hot chocolate(2 lindt (2.5), cream(1), fiberfit(0), 1 cup CCD milk(3)=6.5
LS~mac. nuts & cheese=2
D~Grilled chicken salad(5), ranch(2)=7
S~few bites of veggie pizza=2

T~28.8

Ketone stick this morning: trace
Water yesterday: 68 oz.
Exercise: running from store to store

Man, did I eat a lot yesterday!!!

so glad to see your weight down this am..

about the veggie pizza.. I have made those.. may times.. adding bacon bits makes them so0o0 much better..lol.. I just put on broc.. cauliflower..red onions..bacon bits.... I guess with the bacon bits , it doesn't make it "veggie" huh..lol.. but its really good.. my friend Missi.. she adds croutons to hers..

interesting story on the seats.. thanks for sharing..
have a good day.. maybe you can sneak in a nap?

love ya

Good morning Beth.

I hear your frustration, and I feel the same.

Hope you're feeling better today. Are your muscles sore from exercise? If so, it could be why your weight has been up a bit.

Hope you figure out the car seat/booster seat thing. So important to keep our little ones as safe as possible.

That pizza sounds like something the Pampered Chef would do.

Hi Beth,

Sending positive vibes your way today.

I got the sugar-free jello (strawberry) and I can't wait to taste it. I'm moving my way into OWL. I want to prepare myself to make this a lifestyle change, any tips and ideas; are appreciated.
