Beth~I was drinking green tea, but when looking back on my journal, found that I didn't lose any during that time. I do agree that drinking too many other things hinders getting water in. But.......my diet coke with lime is a must several times a week. In fact, when looking at my journal, I found that when I drink it, I seem to lose. Yeah diet coke!! So glad I started my journal.

I decided to cut out the diet drinks when I started. I drink a couple of sips of one a couple of weeks ago and got a horrible headache. I think my body does better without the carbonation. It just goes to show you that everybody is different. Now, I have found that when I drink coffee that I seem to lose. Do you think it might have anything to do with the diuretic effect?

I guess it doesn't matter how it happens, but I sure would like to understand my body and how it works.
Sue: I am sure you will see a loss on the scale whenever you decide to check. I saw this on the board here... there's more to it but don't want to post the whole thing in your journal... don't know if it's true or not but it sounds like it makes sense. I find the same thing happens with me... although I am not measuring I can tell I've lost inches and then finally I see a couple of pounds drop on the scale... then nothing again for a while and the whole cycle repeats.

Quote:
... A biologist at Berkeley shared something very revealing on the low-carb BBS system about 4 years ago that helps us all through the erratic weight fluctuations you invariably encounter:
“Fat cells are resilient, stubborn little creatures that do not want to give up their actual cell volume. Over a period of weeks, maybe months of “proper dieting”, each of your fat cells may have actually lost a good percentage of the actual fat contained in those cells. But the fat cells themselves, stubborn little guys, replace that lost fat with water to retain their size. That is, instead of shrinking to match the reduced amount of fat in the cell, they stay the same size! Result – you weigh the same, look the same, maybe even gained some scale weight, even though you have actually lost some serious fat.”

This is what we have been telling folks. You lose inches but not pounds because your body plumps the fat cells. I tell them it is a complicated biochemical process that your body replaces the fat molecules with water and fluids until you exceed your bodies predetermined fluid level. Then your body will release a chemical that releases all this stored water and you get sudden overnight loss of several pounds. Then the cycle starts over again with inches gone and the scales lag behind....

Beth~I think coffee does have a diuretic effect for me. I my two cups in the morning. I'll give up a lot of things, but not coffee.

Hillary~I've seen that before, and it is interesting, isn't it.

O.K. ladies, I have to confess something. I went to the Dr. yesterday to get a refill for my rosasea cream, and they weighed me. I was not happy with the numbers on their scale (with clothes on and a very full bladder) so I decided to weigh this morning to find out if I had gained weight. Well, the scale was down a pound from my siggie this morning, so I'm happy about that. I guess I'm on track for losing another 6 pounds this month.

Yea! 6 pounds in a month is really good! I don't think I have lost that much since I first started. Thank you for telling us. This journal keeps us really honest doesn't it?! I hate weighing at the doctors office. I remember when I was pregnant that I would wear the lightest clothes I could find and always take off my shoes. I would also ask them if I could go to the bathroom before I weighed. I even went as far as to set my appointments first thing in the morning and not eat until after the appointment. Isn't that horrible! The things we will do to weigh less!

Hi there Sue. Hope you are having a good day. I was thinking about your question on the inches/pounds cycle. Although measurements aren't exact for me, I believe during my scale stall I was losing inches. Then I just started dropping. Perhaps there is something to it.

Candy, I've never stayed on Atkins long enough to track this, so it makes me want to start weighing again. I might, just to see if this holds true on a consistant basis.

I bought a bunch of Atkins bars today. They were discounted to 20 for $1.00....yes, you read that right. DD likes them, as does DH. I try not to eat them, but I did have one today.

That's a great price on the bars. I haven't bought anymore, but DD and DH like them here as well. For that price, I would have bought them too.

I'm back after being gone for a few days.

I stayed cheat-free despite the Univ. tour, wedding and staying at my folks.

Saturday morning DH and I measured, as we do every two weeks, and I was down more in inches that I was expecting. The scale doesn't move that fast, but it is so reassuring to measure and see that depsite the scale, the inches are falling off.

I'm not going to put in my menus for the past few days, although I kept track in my journal.

Glad to be back home!

Thanks Candy and Hillary. You ladies are the best!

Wish I could stay home today, but it is my volunteer day. I am so behind around here, and much to do for house/yard redecorating before graduation day.

I was really searching for something to eat yesterday afternoon. Not hungry. I ended up eating a Pria LC bar that had SAs, and boy did I suffer all afternoon. None of those for me again. I know I can lose using bars, but really want to eat cleaner than that for right now.

I did make my chicken patties, grinding up chicken breasts in the food processor with celery and onion, then adding eggs, mayo, spices and parmesan cheese to help bind it together. It was the first time for DD to eat them and she loved them. Too bad they get eaten so fast.

I want to weighbut am holding off until the 20th so see if I'm keeping up with my goal to lose 2 pounds every 10 days. I think I need to be stricter the next few days.

The chicken patties sound yummy.
I wish SA would bother me. Sometimes I think I need it, but they do nothing to me except stall I think.

Hi Sue - Finally found time to stop at your journal - thanks for the encouragement on mine.

I am with you on the diet coke with lime - I love it. I gave it up almost completely in the beginning but have added it back and really keeps me from wanting to snack Plus, I don't stall with it.

6 pounds in a month is awesome and a realistic goal. Great job on staying cheat-free. I have to go back and look at your menus to get ideas.

Thanks ladies. I'm happy about that, and I've got "droopy behind" syndrome with my jeans! Will wait awhile before I get new ones though, and probably at Goodwill since I don't want to spend a lot of $$ on clothes when I'm going down in sizes.
