I started on my new way of eating on dec 21,06.I went to a bariatric surgeon and weighed in at a whopping 285 and am only 5'6 and of medium build. I never imagined it was that high. I have since been told I had to lose 25 lbs before I could have a gastric bypass. I have lost approx. 20 lbs on low carb/atkins. I have researched non-stop between my job every day since going to the doctor, had a sleep apnea-test,gall-bladder ultrasound, but after some serious thought and reading horrible stories about the barbaric way they are going to rip up my insides I have made a very difficult decision, I am going to do it on my own through dedication to this way of eating and excercise. I have 4 children a wonderful husband and want to be around for graduations and weddings and grandchildren. It was very hard to decide because I want desperately to be thin and healthy. I have the insurance to cover the surgery it just seems to be the easy way out, I did not become this way overnight and I feel like if I want it bad enough and it is worth it then it should not be something that comes easy!!! I am not knocking anyone who does it I think it is a personal choice, I just think I will be very proud of myself as I see the new me emerge and take pride in knowing a medical intervention did not produce it. I am very committed to this and look for me around here, I ain't going nowhere!!! thanks , be back soon snoopdebi

Hi Snoopdebi,
I want to wish you all the best on your journey. I have several friends who have had the bypass surgery and the ones who have been successful have said that they needed to make a life change in regard to food. Whether you have the surgery or not, things will have to change so if you can do this without the surgery, that would be wonderful. I hope you will post often and let us know how you are doing. There is a lot of wonderful support here - no matter what way you choose to go and no matter what eating plan you are on. Take care, and if you don't mind, I will say a prayer for you. Mary

I wish you the best of luck! I believe you have to power to meet your goals!!! That surgery is alot harder then what they say and also still requires a HUGE change in your eating!!!! A friend of mine had it done and still had a problem controlling her eating and had alot of problems eating the wrong foods!!! Good Luck
If you need support we are all here!!!!! |
