So I went up slightly...136.6 this morning. I didn't keep track of what I ate yesterday, carb-wise, because i was really hungry all day, and I didn't want to stress myself out worrying that I was eating too much to maintain my 136. So, I just ate appropriate food any time I was hungry and hoped I wouldn't gain today. I was prepared to see as high as 137.2 or so this morning, so I am really happy that I only went up .2! And I am still in moderate ketosis. I don't think I'm going to worry so much about carbs until I hit pre-maintenance, just because at this point, I have a good feel for what I can eat and still be in ketosis.
This is about what I ate: B - pumpkin shake S- 2 babybel cheese handful of nuts L - 6 small turkey & cheese roll ups SF tapioca w/ about 4 blackberries S - Atkins bar D - Rotisserie Chicken w/ ranch blackberries and cream SF pistachio pudding w/ whipped cream I also went for a short walk last night...only 25 minutes, though. This morning, I am not half as hungry as I was yesterday, so I should be good. I was talking to Will this morning, and I told him that I would be happy just losing one more pound this month. By the end of this week, I will probably be entering into pre-TOM time, and after that, as we all know, I will become bloated and miserable and won't lose another pound. So everyone cross their fingers for me that I can make it into the 135 range by the end of this week, if possible.

You can do it! Keeping figures and toes crossed that both of us get to 135 soon! Your menu didn't even look that out of sorts. What is babybel cheese? I haven't heard about that before. Your walk burned all the extra off anyways. Hope you are having a blessed day. Thank you for your kind inspiration to me this morning!

Well, I went up to 137.0 this morning. However, I was kindof expecting it. I started feeling a little bloated at work yesterday, AND I ate a Blue Bunny Ice cream bar before bed last night. Today is officially 2 weeks before TOM, so this could be it for me for the rest of the month. I HOPE not, but I'm preparing to maintain at 137-ish for the next 2 weeks. Which, I suppose is ok since last month I maintained at 139-ish.
Yesterday: B - Chocolate raspberry yogurt protein shake - 5 L - Salad w/ leftover rotisserie chicken, bacon, tomatoes, cucumber, cheese, almond accents and blue cheese dressing - 5 S - 1/4 c. mixed nuts - 3 1/3 c. cottage cheese w/ diced No sugar added peaches - 8 D - Atkins shake - 2 S - peanuts - 2 ice cream bar - 1 Total = 26 total carbs This is the first time I've counted my carbs since before I went to NC, so It's nice to see that I am staying in the right range, even without being strict in my counts. I was also in moderate to deep ketosis this morning, so that is good. I did some reading about Pre-Maintenance yesterday and I will be very happy if I can maintain around 45-50 carbs per day. I know for sure I can eat about 35 and be fine, but I don't think I have ever consciously gone over 36 carbs EVER, so I don't know what will happen at that point. And I think the one time I did have 36 carbs, it was totally unintentional. I think also, that I am going to do Pre-M a little differently than he says in the book. He says to go up 10 carbs a day per week, but that is WAY too scary for me! I think at first I will stick to the way I did OWL and only add one new food at a time in 3-5 carb increments. That just seems so much easier to control for me...and it will be better for my peace of mind! Then I will experiment with his different variations of Pre-M once I'm feeling good about it to see which one works the best for me. |

So sorry my dear friend on the slight gain this morning.
Don't worry about the treat you had. I am sure it was out of your control....one of those early PMS cravings.Your plan sounds smart to me! I hope it works well when you get there. Oh, I dream of being able to eat that many carbs to maintain. Think of all those great fruits and veggies we have been wanting! I found the cheese at the store. Thanks for sending me the picture. I haven't eaten any yet. There were several different flavors. I just got what was in the picture.

The reason I asked about the chicken was because of the seasonings, and some are injected with fillers. I am not suprised that you are up. BUT, if you have not had issues with it in the past ... then you are right, it's most likely TOM.
I think you will be fine defining your own pre-maintenance. It seems to be just a matter of reaching the level where you slowly lose and then reach a stopping point with your carb # that makes you gain. At least that's how I read it. |

So...I went up again today (137.4), and I ate like crazy yesterday...MAJOR CRAVINGS. All surefire signs that Pre-TOM is here and rearing it's ugly head.
I have been a little backed up for awhile, so I started the day yesterday higher carb (so I could get some extra fiber in) and just kindof stayed that way for the rest of the day. I'm going to try and figure out exactly what I ate, because I went down to a trace ketosis, so I'm surious how many carbs that was that put me down that low. B - 1/4 c. fiber one - 5.5 4 oz. Activia -3 no sugar added peaches - 5 S - 2 slices cheese - 1.5 L - 2 slices pumpkin cake - 7 <1/2 an apple - 8? 1 T. cream cheese mixed w/ 1 T. PB - 3 S - peanuts - 2 D - 1/2 grilled chicken salad w/ pico de gallo, sour cream, romaine lettuce, diced tomatoes, olives and ranch dressing - ??? S - 2 SF oreo type cookies - 6 SF ice cream bar - 1 Grand Total = 42-ish + whatever was in the salad...I only ate half of it, so I'm guessing 5-7 carbs. According to Dr. Atkins, the Ketone strips stop registering color past 50 carbs, so I know I didn't eat 50, and I may be being generous with my carb counts, cause I'd rather overcount than undercount, but I'm pretty sure I was definitely above 40 carbs yesterday. YIKES! However, I am very happy that I am still in a trace ketosis this morning, despite my "binge." I just wanted to eat everything in sight yesterday. Hopefully today is better, and it will be, if simply for the fact that I'm working today, and the only things I can eat at work are the things I bring myself. Now, I think I'll start the day off very low carb and make myself a nice protein shake for brunch ![]() |

Inspite if you having a higher carb day, you only went up .4 pds.
That isn't all that bad. And if you are backed up then that is probably why. We have gone up that much and have eaten perfectly. I wouldn't worry about it. You always get back on it and start losing again. That is the most important thing. The good thing is that you know your body and mentally know that these days are coming. It isn't something you can really do anything about. It is kinda like those days I get down. You still ate the right things! I am very proud of you for that! You know my ketone sticks were registering low this morning too. We used to be estatic if it had a trace remember? Some will say that if you have a trace you are in ketosis....doesn't matter how dark it is you will still lose. Chin up! No more oreo cookies! You will be back down tomorrow. I have full convidence! You know how to get it done! |

Being backed up can sure cause the scale to go up. Wish it weren't a side-effect of low carb, but something we have to deal with. Have you ever tried cocoa powder to help in this department. When I'm having problems in this area, I will put 1 T cocoa powder in my morning coffee with some liquid sweetener, and the problem can be solved within half an hour. It doesn't work every time, but probably 75% success rate for me.

I don't fully understand ketosis, nor do I understand at what level they don't register on the sticks. I have not registered and had less than 50 carbs several times. So, I can't help you there ....... but, you are pretty smart and I know you will figure it out. So when you do figure it out ... remember it and help me IF I ever get close to goal.
Tell me about the pumpkin cake .... is it low-carb ?? |

Thanks, Beth, for helping me feel better about my binge
Just to let you know, I did much better today...no Oreos!! ![]() Sue, I haven't tried cocoa powder. Thanks for the suggestion! Oh, Candy, of course the pumpkin cake was low carb and it is really good! I baked it in a regular rectangular cake pan, but I think next time I'm going to bake it in muffin cups. Everyone liked it and it was even better today! LISA! I'm so glad to see your face again in my journal! I've missed you!Ok, so now i'm off to bed...grumpy because my DVR didn't record the last section of The Office! Grrrrrr...... ![]() |

Up another .2 lbs. 137.6
However, I ate much better yesterday and was in the second deepest ketosis this morning! Still haven't gone though, IYKWIM Yesterday: B - Peach vanilla yogurt shake - 4 S - 1 slice pumpkin cake - 3.5 1 c. hot cocoa - 3 L - leftover grilled chicken w/ pico de gallo and sour cream - 4? D - Atkins shake - 2 S - peanuts - 3 ice cream bar - 1 Total = 20.5 (no wonder I was back in deep ketosis!) Candy, the pumpkin bread/cake/muffin recipe is my own. I developed it last time I was on plan. The original recipe has some whole wheat pastry flour in it, but I replaced it with protein powder this time, since I am not adding grains back until maintenance. It turned out a little more eggy, but still really good! Here is the recipe: Pumpkin Bars 1/2 c. Carbquick 1/4 c. plain protein powder (or whole wheat flour when on maintenance) 1/4 c. almond flour 1 t. pumpkin pie spice 1/2 t. baking powder 1/2 t. baking soda 1/2 t. salt 1/2 c. vegetable oil 1 c. Splenda 2 eggs 1 c. pumpkin puree 1/4 c. nuts (optional) 1/8 c. raisins, chopped (maintenance) 350 deg. In a medium bowl stir together the first seven ingredients. Set aside. In a large bowl, beat the eggs, oil and Splenda together until smooth. Stir in the pumpkin, then the dry ingredients. Finally stir in the raisins and nuts, if using. Pour into a greased 9x13 pan (I usually use a pan just slightly smaller...8x12, I think) and spread evenly. Bake about 30 minutes, or until cake springs back when touched lightly. I cut this into about 16 bars. (The carb count depends on which brand of protein powder you use, but mine I rounded up to 45 carbs for entire thing...it was really like 42 or 43, but I round up to account for any hidden carbs I might have missed.) There was a glaze I used of 1/2 c. powdered maltitol mixed with 1 T. SF maple syrup, but I don't touch Maltitol anymore, so I leave it plain or top it with a little whipped cream. Once I'm on maintenance I might make the glaze again with real powdered sugar, since the amount is so small once you divide it among all the servings, but we will see. |

Broccoli Slaw
A couple weeks ago I had some raw broccoli and i realised that I did not get all bloaty and gassy like when I eat it cooked.....so...Krys if i want to make broccoli slaw using fresh broccoli.....do I put the whole thing through the food processor using the shread/grate blade.
Or do i use the stalks alone. And if i use the stalks alone....what do you recommend I do with the flowerettes. Unfortunately we don't get the bagged kind here in Trinidad so i have to do this from scratch |

Lisa, I bet you could definitely make broccoli slaw with the grate plate. I know they must do the florets in the bagged stuff, because every now and then I find a floret that much have missed the cutter, but I think mostly it is the stalks. If you are going to shred the stalks, be sure you peel them first. Also, mine comes with shredded carrots and some purple cabbage, too. Let me know how it tuns out!

I don't have much time this morning since I work at noon, but I went down slightly...137.4 this morning. I still haven't moved, IYKWIM, so I think I'm going to pull out the big guns today and take some Perdiem. I don't even know what I am eating today, except of course, i always get a sandwhich from next door when I work the long Saturday, and eat the filling. It totally fills me up until dinner. Its just beef, cream cheese, onions, peppers and tomato slices. Its GOOD! Well I'd better go get ready for work. Talk to you all later!

Hi Ya krys
I made the brocolli slaw and it came out great..Thanks
Next time I will use the slice blade for the flowerettes since the grate blade made it come out like a powder. The stalks however shredded very nicely using the grate blade. I posted some pics on my thread ![]() Have a great day at work today. ![]() |

Krysta... my dear sweet friend, hope your day went well today. I am sorry I am posting so late. I am happy to find that you went down on the scales today.
Just remember that this is only temporary craziness. I appreciate so much your personal message you sent me. I know you may have felt like you didn't say that much but you did. I was encouraged and reminded of some things that I needed to hear. I am so blessed to have you as my friend on here. I trust your wisdom and judgement. I appreciate you taking time out to hold my hand during this time of not understanding. I hope that someday that I can be there for you like you have been there for me. I will promise you that I will try harder to look at the bigger picture and not get so freaked out over the numbers. We will figure out this WOL and do it correctly. Then, we will be able to be there for others just like we have been there for each other. |
