Life's A Banquet . . .

and most poor suckers are starving to death!

I started on January 1, 2007. It has been a week. I am at 252.0 lbs. today. I had trouble with my scale so I am just going to start from here. I know I lost a good 10+ lbs. the first week. Which is

Breakfast: I had ground sirloin pattie, 1-Carb Ketchup, water
Lunch: I have leftovers - George Stella's "chili con carne" without the beans. I'll add some lettuce, etc.. to get in some veggies.
Dinner: Probably shrimp and salad.

I need to make a quiche or two. I always do better when I can just nuke a slice of quiche.

I am dying to make the taco soup the Gutter Girls rave about (I am a Gutter Girl groupie). but I have to go to the store first. I think I am going to make it with chicken instead of ground beef.

I am off to the grocery... BBL!

Things are going good so far. Had George Stella's Chili Con Carne without the beans topped with Jack and nuked. I forgot to add the lettuce, then I didn't feel like digging through the fridge...

Lots of water.

I guess I should say a little about myself. But, I don't know what to say ... I have done Atkins several times before but only a couple of times for a couple of weeks a year. Until this past summer. I did two months. I felt great, but had a spell and it took several months to get back to it.

I have PTSD, depression and anxiety. I take meds which don't really seem to interfere with my weight loss. The problem is I have spells of depression and ... just spells. I don't know what else to call them.

I am determined to stay with this for a year though. I feel better when I eat LC with lots of protein and veggies. The trick is to stay with my woe through the difficult spells.

My body craves the sugar for the serotonin it produces in the brain. So I feel better when I eat sugar. It has a pretty immediate response so I have lived on sugar, cokes, ... for years. I never realized why I feel better after a coke or cookie until I read the serotonin connection. I never ate sweets then I lived on them.

Even though it is positive for the moment in reality it makes things worse. I have more anxiety, less energy, everything is worse and I gain weight. So I just have to remember to focus on teh overall picture not the immediate relief.

I am going to my dr. this week and I am going to talk to him about what to do. Maybe up my meds?? There has to be a solution other than an iv of sugar.

Well... I guess I thought of a few things to say, huh? LOL

So... last night for dinner I had loaded broccoli. Yum!!

Today's menu - I really need to do a better job of planning. I woke up late so no breakfast. I am going to go and make some tuna for lunch. Dinner??? I will figure that out soon.

You know, I told myself the same thing earlier this week. Then I thought, who cares ... it's still x amount of lbs, and it has to come off first.

Congrats ....

Sending some ....

... your way.

I read that you made it though.
And, you agree with the rest, right?
Yum! Yum? ? ?

You're right!!
It's still x amount of lbs!

Hey!

Everything is going great.

I did not get in enough water the past few days, and I have been drinking too many DDPs. Will up my water today!! No more DDPs until Friday. I figure if they are hard to give up and I want one this bad then that is NOT good. Nip it in the bud!! Keep control. If I feel out of control, then I am not eating/drinking properly. When I eat and drink what is healthy and good for me, I feel great and in control. Gotta be careful.

I was worried about peanut butter, but it worked itself out. Last week I was craving peanut butter. I would have a tsp or 2. I kept losing which is good to know, but I started getting worried about the craving, but it has been gone the past couple of days. So there. The peanut gods can find someone else to torture now. I am so over pb. knock on wood. Don't wanna irritate the gods they might - well, I'll just stop there. I don't want to tempt them.

I've been eating well/good (I can't remember which is the appropriate word ...not important...but if you know tell me...that's gonna bug me) - lots of spinach dip!! YUM!! I never get tired of spinach. Now I have gone and jinxed myself. One of my favorite foods, and any day now I"ll be just thinking of it. If you just read this knock on wood for me!!

I started on January 1st. As of today I have lost 14.8 lbs. Cool!! I hope I can lose .2 lbs by tomorrow to have an even 15 lb. loss!! Woo hoo!! Wish me luck!

Regarding the soup ... YES, I agree with them. It is excellent. Pointer though -- not sure how thick/thin you like your soup. BUT, I only had one can of Rotel (it was some sort of Mexican Rotel) and after I put that in, it would have been way to thin for me if I added the 2nd can of broth. So, judge it as you make it. It doesn't thicken up later.

Tell me about your spinach dip.

Glad you kept losing with the peanut butter. I did it before too, and still lost. When I feel like I am actually in losing mode (not just water), then I might sneak a spoonful.

Dixie, Congrats on your progress!! This is inspirational to me.

Hi Candy!!
Thanks for dropping by. I love love love my spinach dip - well, it's not really mine. My mother makes it. It is spinach, artichoke hearts, mayo, cheese, some spices (I'm not sure what else) covered in cheese and baked until the cheesy topping is perfect! YUM! YUM! YUM! Sour cream and salsa on the side. Awesome. I used to use it as dip with Tostitos, but now I just eat it as a side dish.

Thanks for the congrats! You're inspirational to me!!

Wonder what kind of spices are in that dip ?? I love the spinach dip that you make with the Knorr soup mix. I wonder if it's low carb ??
Hope you have a great "sunshiney" day !!

I am exhausted!! I was up all night. couldn't sleep. I hate that!

But - I didn't eat all night. That's good.

I had a ground sirloin patty with 1-carb ketchup for dinner.

I had a couple of tsps of peanut butter a little later with a caffeine free DDP. Then I just got in bed and read, listened to ipod, pet the kitty.

Oh!! I am so !!! Kroger is no longer carrying the One-Carb Ketchup. I found some at Wal-Mart, but I'm afraid that Heinz may stop making it. I that's not true. I am going to stock up from Wal-Mart just in case. So I have to REMEMBER to get it!

REMINDER: Get Heinz One-Carb ketchup at Wal-Mart!!

For Breakfast I had scrambled eggs and sausage.

I tried making the chai tea. I wonder if it is "ch" like "chew" or "ch" like a "k" sound? Any way... it smelled so good!! But then I messed it up. I put some vanilla syrup in then some heavy cream. I took a sip and got a mouth full of heavy cream!! Well, it was way way way too much cream, and I was too tired to start again. I also want to get the French Vanilla syrup. I read it is better than the plain Vanilla.

REMINDER: Get French Vanilla syrup while at the Wal-Mart!!

I am going to go back to bed. I hope I can get to sleep.

Yesterday's Accountability

I ended up falling to sleep around 10 or so yesterday morning. Slept most of the day.

For dinner I had ground sirloin patty, One-Carb ketchup, sharp cheddar cheese.

I still didn't feel well so I watched a little tv and went back to bed. Ugh. I hope I'm not getting sick.

Today - January 18th

I woke up this morning with a sore throat. Ugh. I just wanted to stay in bed, but I didn't.

And, the scale made me so so so because I weighed in at 247.4.

That is a total loss of 17 lbs. in 17 days Pretty awesome!! Nobody can complain about that.

For breakfast: scrambled eggs and 1.5 sausage patties + chai tea with cream and Davinci's vanilla syrup.
It was pretty tasty. Plus it felt so soothing to my throat.

I was reading a thread earlier and had a real "aha" moment. The poster was proud of herself for not binging on non-LC treats after a stressful day. Which is great!!! She should be proud.

But what struck me was - she referred to the binge as something that would make her feel better. "Better." And that is when it hit me. I've always thought that I ate sweets and junk food to "make myself feel better" and "comfort myself," but that is totally not true. It never made me feel better. It always made me feel worse. When I eat ice cream, cookies, chips, ... whatever to "make myself feel better" or "comfort" myself, it was neither. It was punishing myself.

It is a total falsehood that junk food is "comforting." When we eat that we are punishing ourselves! We actually feel guilt or discomfort or whatever from the stressful situation and punish ourselves. The act of putting junk in our bodies is because we feel we don't deserve to be happy and healthy or to feel confident and proud of ourselves. It keeps us focused on how "undisiplined" "weak" "worthless" "fat"... and a million other put downs we tell ourselves - we are. Wow. Who knew?

I'm sick! Ugh!

I hate being sick! I feel horrible.

The only good thing is I haven't gotten off plan.

I am dying for some carby comfort food, but I have NOT had any. So far just chai tea which makes my throat feel better, and it is getting a little easier to swallow. Swallowing isn't hurting near as bad.

I'm glad it is just a cold thing and not a stomach bug.

And when I thought it couldn't get any worse - TOM showed up!! Typical.

Okay, I'm going to stop whining. Now. No more whining.

Well. I think I'm getting very close to well (crossing fingers)

I was so worried that I wouldn't get my ooomph! (for lack of a better word) back. But, it turns out it wasn't gone just being silenced by the nasty flu
