I get so much inspiration from everyone else's journal, I decided to start my own.
Things I'm learning "this time" around. I need to stay away from the scale. I've always been a weigh-every-day-when-I'm-dieting-girl. It used to work, but the "last" few times I've tried to "do" Atkins, it didn't. If I lost some, I would be tempted to go off plan because "I was doing so well". If I gained some, I would go off plan because "why bother?" Also, I seem to have this mental block about 205 and lower. Whenever I saw those numbers, I would start to cheat. So here's my plan: I'm only going to weigh on the 1st of the month. It's been a real struggle, but it seems to be working. Instead of having a number on the scale as the goal, I have a date on the calendar. I got a lot of inspiration from reading posts by Ta-Da and decided to read some of the books that helped her. For some reason, reading those were a trigger and I went spiralling into a major binge for days and days. So.....no more reading of books about the deep dark mysteries of why I overeat....:hyst: Also, need to stay away from the Frankenfood and focus on real food that will feed my body with nutrients. I've not had any low carb bars "this time" around. All of this is just common sense and advice that the long time maintainers have been handing out freely for awhile. ****** Part of my story.....Found low carb and LCF in 1999. Started at about 220 and lost down to 180. Got pregnant.....Had a baby....Been bouncing up and down from 230 to 190 for the past six years. Enough already:doh: Started and weigh-in....Nov 1.....215 Next weight-in............Dec 1......Goal 205 Ultimate goal.............June 16, 2007.....145 I'm 5'3 3/4" Feel free to comment:) Also, by not weighing everyday, I feel like I'm living a WOL and not a diet. If I'm not on a diet there is "no need" to "cheat". I can feel myself shrinking. :) Clothes are looser....face is thinner... |
Oh, goodness, I'm coming down with a migraine. Just writing it, so I can track them. Ugh......
|
:welcome: :welcome: :welcome: .. cant wait to see your progess' hun.. IT WILL HAPPEN !... :hugs: .. hope the head ache goes away fast for ya.. I know its part of it int he begging.. just get past it.. take sumpin for it ..:)..
and again..:welcome: :hugs: |
Thank you, monet, for the welcome:blush:
Uggghhhh, weight loss by migraine. Not a fun way to do it. Spent last night vomiting and in pain. Do you really think it might have been from "detox" two weeks after I started back on plan? I wanted comfort food so bad this morning, but I stood strong. Don't want to have to go through that again. Clothes feel even more baggy. Counting down the days until Dec. 1:up: |
Wow.. I've never had a head ache that bad... sorry sweetie.. but I don't blame you.. tough it out and get past it all.. I got a slight head ache.. but a lot of people get flu like symptoms..so I dunno..:dunno:
hang tight though.. :hugs: |
I made it through the week of headaches without going off plan!
I woke up this morning feeling much better. I'm trying to drink extra water today. Went to an Ohio State/Michigan game party this afternoon. Took veggies, olives, dill pickles, and cheese. There were also a lot of other legal foods there to eat. Made it through the party just fine! Low carb makes it soooo easy to go to a party....just have to make sure to stay away from all the sugary stuff:up: I'm feeling pretty tired. Going to watch some TV and then off too bed soon. Oh, I almost forgot, my husband said my jeans looked baggy on me today!!!:kicking: :kicking: Can't wait to see what the scale says on Dec. 1:p |
Good for you..
so who won this game? There was a guy in Pogo games.. going on about how Michigan was gonna stomp Ohio today..:dunno: .. so I am just curious..lol.. |
Monet, Ohio State won the game. I'm not much into football, but it was pretty close and most of the people at the party (both OSU and Michigan fans) did a lot of shouting/cheering.
Still haven't gotten on the scale. It's really hard, but I know it's why I'm on plan so well. There's a thread in the Main Lobby about weighing everyday and there aren't many who have taken my approach. I'm afraid to post because I haven't been very successful, so I feel like my word isn't worth month. Maybe in a month or two after I've got some losses under my belt. My winter coat is fitting better. I can almost button the bottom button. LOL Bought a new dress tonight at Wal-mart. Totally different from what I usually wear. My dh's Christmas party is in a couple of weeks and I think it will look good...maybe even sexy??? Got a letter in the mail today that the life insurance company turned me down due to "lab results". Called my agent who said that they didn't tell her much because of HPPA laws, but that there was "something" in my urine and I need to go to the dr. and have it checked out. I can't call the insurance company, only write to them, which I intend to do. Wonder what's up with that? |
Best wishes to you GardenGirl639.

I think a journal opens the door to motivation and like you said encouragement! KUTGW  |
Thanks for the Thanksgiving wishes, Monet.
Here's a little thought that's keeping me on plan for Thanksgiving and Christmas...it's already helped me through a party last weekend. There is nothing that will be served at anytime during the next six weeks or so that I can not go out and buy or make myself at some other time of the year. This seems simplistic, but it has really been helping me. If I choose, when I reach goal, I "could" go out and buy all the ingredients and bake every cookie in the Martha Stewert magazine. I "could" go out and buy the ingredients and bake pecan pie. I "could" go out and buy pastries and bread and...... You get the idea. I'm not saying that my plan is to loose my weight and then go on a giant binge. I'm just saying I "could". :) In the next year, there probably will not be a shortage of sugar or butter or any of the other stuff that we like to eat/bake at this time of year. So, for this year, everyone else can eat all the cookies and pies and desserts. I'm staying on plan and for once having a New Year's that is not the "beginning of the last diet". Here are some other things. I plan to take my kids for a walk this afternoon. Get some fresh air in our lungs, maybe rake up the rest of the leaves. We are having everyone over tomorrow and I need to be calm. Exercise is great for that. I also plan to take a walk after the big meal tomorrow. I'll take my kids and my nieces and nephew so that everyone can get some fresh air. I have lots of wonderful low carb foods planned as well as the classics. I left the pie baking to my sil. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! |
Turkey's in the oven and it smells WONDERFUL. Going to snack on it tonight since I'll be deboning and slicing it up tonight. Mmmmmm. Can't wait!
|
Good idea.. :).. and your welcome.. have a great day tomorrow..:hugs:

This is what I posted in a thread on the ML

Only 7 more days until I can weigh:up: |
Good for you for sticking to plan..  so far.. I am the only one I have found who didn't:doh: .. but that's OK.. I planned it pretty much.. I didn't over do it.. I don't think.. compared to years before.. and I wanted to shock my body.. so I hope it helped.. I didn't feel bad today ..like a lot of people say when they eat the carby foods after not having in for ever.. so that's a plus.. I am expecting a head ache in the next few days.. but that's OK.. I just wanna start losing again.. :)..
talk to you later sweetie..:hugs: again.. good for you!!  |
My husband and I have been on a mission today. Last night we started talking about how messy the back room of our kitchen always looks. It's also the door where the most people come. We devised a plan that called for moving a book shelf and big armoire type cabinet out of that room (emptying all of the junk first, of course;) ) We also had to move other furniture in other places in the house to get make space. We then mounted a total of six new shelves to our existing one. Added a coat rack. We've been clean, clean, cleaning ever since. I have "explosions" in four different rooms plus the kids "started" to decorate the tree. I'm sure it'll all be back together by Monday and we'll be so happy.
Wonder how many calories I'm burning. LOL |
I joined a Challenge!! It's the Strive for Five Challenge. Make a goal and complete it in five days, then reward yourself. Here are my goals

Hmm.. a good reward.. lets see.. maybe buy you some new fingernail polish.. or get a nice hair cut.. or trim.. a lot of the girls on here get pedicures.. me.. I don't like people touching these feet..:hyst: :hyst: ..maybe just go buy yourself.. one single rose.. and as those days go by they can add up.. and be a reminder of how well your doing.. or.. maybe just a simple.. bubble bath with candles and soft music.. just you time..KWIM? .. or.. give yourself 5 bucks.. tuck it away somewhere.. don't spend it till you have reached your goal.. by then... you'll have lots of mula to go buy new clothes.. hehehe..
OK just a few ideas.. but I cant wait to see what you come up with.. you can do it.. and good for you for joining a challenge.. have a wonderful Sunday.. and also.. good exercise there.. moving furniture isn't easy.. :D |
Couldn't get on the computer at all yesterday. Too much to do.
Staying on plan. Not weighing (It's killing me. lol) Drinking lots of water. Thought of a reward for the challenge I'm part of....I have a necklace that needs some earrings to match it so I'm off to Kohl's on Wednesday to find some matching earrings. On another note, I got turned down for life insurance due to lab results...something in my urine (no, not drugs:hyst: ) Got the test results in the mail today and am off to my doctor's at 4 p.m. Hopefully he can shed some light on it. Be back later... |
Back from the doctor. He was really happy with my cholesterol from the lab results that were sent in the mail. He said that it looked like I might have had a urinary tract infection but when he tested my urine today, it looked fine. He was still going to send it off to make sure that he hadn't missed anything. He gave me an antibiotic for a sinus infection....It's not an antibiotic that will work on a unrinary tract infection, though, so if the labs come back positive, I'll need a different antibiotic:stars:
I'm just glad that it looks like I'm okay:) |
Hiya.. glad the test looked better.. I will be crossin my fingers for ya :)..
good for you for staying on plan..  KUTGW! |
Just read through your journal, and wanted to say congrats for doing so well so far!! I love the idea of getting yourself matching earrings as a reward also! Hope the sinus infection clears up soon! :hugs: KUTGW!!

Thanks for the encouragement, monet and cdn girl! It's so fun when people post to your journal:cool:
I have been very sleepy today. Don't know what my problem is. I'm staying on plan, but feeling my steam run out. Only a few more days and I can weigh myself which I'm sure will make me feel better. I think I may have PMS. I have PCOS, so I'm never sure exactly when it's coming. I'm a little down, too, because I didn't meet my goal. I fell asleep Tuesday night while watching TV and didn't get my yoga in. Today started a new challenge. I'm going to try to make it this time. Been decorating the house little by little for Christmas. It's so much fun to see the kids get excited when you bring their favorite things out of the boxes. |
I had a very sleepy day today too GG. Must be the weather and having to stay inside too much. I live in the south and it's really warm here, but rainy. Just feel boxed in.
I'm glad you joined the Strive for 5 challenge. I started a journal too. Seems like we are on the same thinking pattern! :) Keep your chin up. You didn't deliberately forgo the yoga. Now, if you had skipped yoga because you were out having cake, THAT would be bad. You must have needed the sleep. Maybe to help you feel better from the antibiotic effect on your body and the healing you are going through.... you never know. Just keep trying for your best each day. See ya again on the SF5 challenge thread! I'm rooting you on to your goal! |

Don't be so down on yourself.. one night of not making that goal.. is way better then no nights at all.. right.. so just try to do better on the next one :).. shake it off,.. smile.. and know your looking fantastic !! :hugs: |
Thanks, Honey and Monet. I'm glad I stuck it out yesterday because today was definitely a "thin day". You know what I mean....my jeans felt really loose. Everytime I caught a look in the mirror, I thought I looked thinner. Can't wait for my weigh-in tomorrow morning and to change my stats.
PCOS stands for Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome and is an endocrine disease that affects many if not all systems in the body. Most women find out they have it because it messes with your monthly cycle and renders many women infertile. I'm not infertile, but I have many fertility and baby-carrying issues. Because of this, we adopted our third child. PCOS can be positively affected by a low carb diet (which is how I found this board many years ago). I also take Metformin for it. One of the "side effects" is being overweight and gaining weight VERY easily. Weight also likes to come of s-l-o-w-l-y. |
