Elizabeth, I always wondered how soy, which is a bean, can be said to be so much different than all the other beans? I guess you could live on nuts, lentils, wheat seitan ... but as you say, you'd have to do some higher glycemic stuff like brown rice and whole grains to make it more palatable. I dunno - I wouldn't go about doing anything drastic with food when I was having a "control" crisis (and believe me I have had many of my own!!!).

OK -- this is totally out of left field -- but I started having really crazy obsessive emotions and binge feelings and I could not get myself out of it. I started to take my multi vitamin again (Bs, Cs, and iron) and I started on St. John's Wort three times a day -- and I am like a different person -- again I know it's totally out of left field, but I am amazed by the difference it has made for me.

Thank you, Pauline.

Today is day one. I picked lower GI foods today. I have a few books coming from the library to add to the collection that I got at the library yesterday.

Grocery shopping tomorrow.

This will either work for me or be the kick I need to get back on track. I'm feeling optimistic. I really enjoyed my hummus today.

Tonight is BWO+, Thread the Needle, OIP/HF, and Awesome Legs

Good morning!

Well, I feel fantastic! I've been vegan since Thursday. I'm trying for low GI. I avoided buying tortillas and bread. I've avoided making any muffins.

Here are the positives so far:

1) I am sleeping better. I find I can sleep all the way through the night now. Also, if I awaken, anxious thoughts don't overtake my thinking and I am able to fall back asleep relatively easily and quickly. I didn't even realize this was a "problem" I was having, but looking back, I have had some anxious thoughts in the night and an hour or two of tossing and turning.

2) I feel an overall sense of calm and control. So much so that I even talked to my husband about it. I don't talk to him very often about feeling out of control with food, so this was major.

4) My weight went up four lbs. for TOM and is now coming back done. I will have to wait until Thursday or Friday or even next week to make any weight determination.

5) I have not missed meat or eggs once! I missed cheese a little, but not much. I transitioned cold turkey and had no "withdrawal" type symptoms or mental "agonies" (LOL) at all.

6) I know that I have a problem with sugar. I am wondering if I also have a problem with wheat. For instance, while I was strict LC, I could eat sushi and go right back on plan and never want to binge or overeat. One piece of bread and I was a craving monster who couldn't get enough.

So, all in all, my experiment is going well. We will see what happens. It may be that I just need the extra serotonin right now. As the days get nicer, I may find I want to return to my LC ways.

I am focusing on feeling in control with an eye tilted toward the scale to monitor what will happen with my weight.

*****Pauline, I am loving the hummus and eating it EVERY DAY! LOL******

That is just awesome Elizabeth!!!!!! With me, being "normal" and "in control" that way is more important than anything that happens with the weight -- that part can always be adjusted once you feel comfortable and normal!!!

great news!!!!!!!!

So, the cycle is complete.

Many of "my carb symptoms" showed up rapidly. Ugh! Stupid PCOS!

Yesterday, did a clean day of Atkins Induction and read lots of DANDR for inspiration. It all makes so much sense to me and I wonder why I wander.

Today, Day 2 of Induction. Today's weather was lovely and I was able to get a nice long walk in.

Anyone know how to keep my focus? I need the switch in my brain to turn back on. I've just been riding a big roller coaster since October.

In about a week, I will celebrate one year of T-Tapp! I need to focus on the things I am doing successfully and not on the things I'm faltering in.

Goals for this week:

Post something here everyday for accountability.
Eat at Induction Level.
Do some form of exercise everyday.
GET OUTSIDE!
Focus on my successes, not my falterings.

Aww Elizabeth, I am sorry that it did not work out for you doing the vegan lower carb. I can't seem to add in legumes or starchy vegetables on a regular daily basis either -- without major craving. I never got to the point to check if the water weight eventually disappears if you just keep on because the cravings were too much for me.

Not really a big deal for me, unless I wanted or needed, for some reason, to cut out dairy. So.... you are not alone!!!!!!

How to keep focus? Working on that myself! My last effort in that regard was to join TOPS for the weekly weigh-ins ... I bet if you did something like that maybe it would drive home to you how far you have come and how successful you really are when you are in a group of weightloss peers ... it has been that for me ...

Here are my goal requirements for the day:

Post something here everyday for accountability.
I'm here

Eat at Induction Level.
Day #3 of Induction

Do some form of exercise everyday.
Walked for an hour. Also did T-Tapp: BWO+, Thread the Needle, OIP/HF, and Awesome Legs

GET OUTSIDE!
In addition to my walk, I puttered around the yard. Did a bulb and bush check through the snow. Saw some snowdrops (little white flowers that bloom before the crocus) on my walk.

Focus on my successes, not my falterings.
My successes for the day:
Achieved the goals I listed here.
Spent good quality time with my kids.
Had a great home school day.
Worked on the budget.
Cooked for my family.

Elizabeth, I think you've made the right decision about posting here for accountability each day. But ya know what? To me, it's more than about accountability. When I come here each day and read others' posts, it reignites me. We all need inspiration, support, guidance. You will get it here, both directly and indirectly. Just by being here, posting, the good and the bad.

As for the veg diet not working out for you, I'm sure you realize that isn't a "failure."

Thank you, Twila. I do get so much out of reading everyone else's posts. I read just about everyday even if I don't post.

I don't think that the veg diet not working was a failure. Unfortunately, I tend to think about jumping off LC as a failure. I need to change that thinking.

I really am trying to tweak. And move on.

Nothing wrong with not eating to induction level. getting to just a normal LC OWl level is still **very** low carb, I am sure, in comparison to what you just tried. You deserve a pat on the back and an "'Atta Girl" -- not the little blushing smiley - You are doing great!!!!

(and now I have to check my front flower bed! I have a little micro-climate going on there, a zone warmer than the rest of the State, lol!)

Pauline, I love that you and Twila are my voices of reason! I get embarrassed because I write my goals and then I change them. Sometimes it makes me feel like I give up too fast instead of pushing through to meet them.

Hope you find something fun in your micro-climate. I forgot to mention that there were bees in my crocus! It was so funny to see bumble bees and snowdrifts at the same time!

If this was one of your children speaking, how would you respond? You deserve the same consideration -- things change, feelings change, plans aren't always good ones, or reasonable ones, or necessary ones -- We would tell our children not to worry, that they are not little machines ... neither is Elizabeth!

I think you did just great!!!! Give credit where credit is due!!!

Happy Monday!

Didn't meet my goals for last week.

Still in the game and that counts for a whole lot right now! (That is meant as a positive statement and not sarcasm.)

Went to the doctor's today and he put me back on Metformin for my PCOS. Hoping to see some positive changes.

Had some really great work outs last week.

"Celebrated" my one year anniversary of doing T-Tapp on Sunday, March 14. Best thing I've done for my body! Super proud of myself for doing it for a whole year! Yay, me!!

I had a hard day yesterday. Metformin is really hard on your digestive track until your body acclimates.

The good news is that I've eaten completely on plan for the last two days. I really want to see some health improvement and Metformin works best with a LC diet for PCOS.

Recovering from the stomach "flu." So sick. Didn't get to do much with my daughter who was home from college for Spring break because I was just sick, sick, sick.

Going to pick the new Atkins book up from the library this afternoon. I'm looking forward to reading it. I need the inspiration!

Breakfast:
Blueberries and Ricotta
