Jan. 20 Workout- Very small. I made many trips up and down our basement stairs with boxes, so I counted that as part

PBS, Plies, Oil Wells, TTTwist

Dashing out to grocery shop in a bit. I'll do my workout today when I get back and then I'll post.

Thanks, Monet! Loved the magazine. It's so inspirational!

Today is a REST day!

I haven't rested much though. LOL Lots of house cleaning and laundry. Feels good to go into the weekend with a clean house.

I have had such a great week because I feel like I've accomplished most of the goals I set for myself this week. Looking forward to more goal setting and accomplishment for next week.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Sorry I haven't been around for a bit. I spoke too soon about not feeling down during January. I've had a major case of the blues and bad TOM.

Feeling a little better. Got in two days of workouts so far this week.

Elizabeth

I was having a terrible terrible Fall - I started taking St. John's Wort and got back on my vitamins and I am just a new person this winter. I don't know whether it is something you can take with pcos and hypothyroid, but you may want to look into it. I am not spacey or anything like that, just not depressed with a huge sense of gravity.

I hope you feel better.

I'm back. Fully and completely back. What a dark place.

I borrowed a friend's Seasonal Affective Disorder lamp last Monday and have been using it. It has really helped. I started feeling better last Thursday and everyday, I've felt a little better. I was "back" by Saturday. Yesterday, Sunday, I missed sitting in front of it due to schedule and by the evening, I was feeling blue again. I've spent a lot of time in front of it today and I am back to feeling good. I will either buy this from my friend or order a new one.

Even though I was feeling down, my workouts have been pretty consistent. Food....not so much....but today I've been right on plan.

Thank you, everyone, for your kind words and concerns.

What a busy week! My oldest daughter has been home from college this week. We've been busy, busy with lots of late night night talks. What a wonderful break it's been in this LOOOOOOONNNNNGGGGG winter. She goes back this afternoon. I feel all filled up and happy.

I've had some great workouts this week. I added a T-Tapp move called LadyBugs. It is fabulous. Lots of stretching and ab work. I can tell that this move is going to do some magic!

I've also found that I can eat the 2% Fage! Heaven!

Have a great day everyone! Hug your babies tight!

Yum Yogurt!!!!! I've been eating it every day lately - the plain 'ol kind to help with the cost .. but I do love that Fage 2%!!!!!

I have to tell you I just LOVE your new avi!!!! Did you darken your hair?! It is just fabulous!!!!!!! You look soooo pretty! I thought of you just this afternoon, I was stretched out in a very sunny window getting a good dose of sunshine, and wondering how Elizabeth was doing with her sunshine box! Sounds like your sunshine came home from college and you had a great week! I am glad to hear you sounding so good!

Thank you so much. This was taken at the T-Tapp retreat that I went to. Actually, this is my natural color. Finally used the right words to get the hair stylist to take the red and blonde out of the color she was using. LOL

I NEED my sunshine box! It is one of my top priorities now! You are right, though, my sunshine did come home from college. The "light" in the house just feels different when she is here.

Thank you, Twila I keep hearing that word "radiant." I don't see it but guess I need to own it since I've recently heard it from my husband, some people from church, and now the internet. The internet makes it true. LOL

Yesterday would have been my dad's 61st birthday. I still can't believe he's gone.

Food has been good today. I feel like I'm on roller coaster with my eating lately. I really need to get it under control. Get a grip, lady!

Mood (except for feeling sad about my dad) has been really good. my light and the T-Tapp LadyBug move.

I'm seriously considering a dietary change.

Do you think it would be possible to be a vegan and follow lower carb principles? I'm thinking lots of veggies, legumes for protein, berries and apples. Possibly oatmeal and brown rice. Staying away from high-glycemic food items--bread, white potatoes, and flour. (No dairy or eggs.)

The thinnest I've ever been was when I was a vegan. I was a vegan/vegetarian for six years. I started gaining the weight back when I turned from vegan to vegetarian and then really just became a junk-atarian.

I've never gotten all the weight off with low carb. Right now, I can't seem to get back on the wagon with any consistency. (Yesterday was a good day.)

I've never really liked meat. I never crave it. On my binge days, I don't eat it. I do, however, really like lentils and other beans. I miss them. I know I could add them back in, but.....

There's also the calorie thing. I've been pondering that as well.

As you raise carbs, you have to lower fat. What would be a good fat percentage? Since I'm thinking whole foods, I would ditch the salad dressing and just go with olive oil and Braggs vinegar.

I'm just exploring ideas and my head is spinning.

Well, I guess I have a lot of feelings on the subject ..

Why go vegan? You give a few reasons - and I think the strongest of them is 1) That you are unhappy with the way you are eating right now. In addition: 2) You are not crazy about meat, 3) You like lentils and would enjoy eating them regularly, 4) You recall that when you ate in the Vegan way, you were where you'd like to be now in terms of weight and health.

I think that those are really good reasons to change your wol. But I really feel strongly that if you are coming from a place of less control and unhappiness with your woe, that you should not simply jump headfirst into a new plan of your own making ... I think it would be really really good to follow a structure at least until you feel really solid in the new woe ...

I think you can absolutely do a lower carb vegan approach- whether it will ultimately make you happy, I don't know. The list of proteins **I** would include would be: soy, tempeh, legumes, tvp, nuts (!!), wheat gluten / seitan ... and I can tell you if I was going to start from the beginning today as a vegetarian or as a vegan, I would be doing South Beach and not Atkins -- or possibly a synthesis of the two. South Beach just was not around when I started. Now I cannot remember South Beach all that well - I read it just after it came out (I might have a copy downstairs if you want me to look something up), but I do recall it was a lower fat program than Atkins ..

My suggestion:

1. Either give another plan a try like South Beach, (no need to do induction and the fat level will take care of itself if you read how they handle it in their OWL) or:

2. Go up the carb ladder by the book, try out each legume you want to eat - see how you tolerate it (I assume you've already tested yourself on nuts) .. and then go up to the grain level ... and check out this thread too: http://www.lowcarbfriends.com/bbs/lo...ut-quinoa.html

3. I'd start by dropping the dairy products -- that may be the only thing you *need* to drop to feel better and maybe reserve the use of eggs and dairy to occasional -- that is, unless you really wish to go purist Vegan (which I totally understand and support too, lol!).

I think if you want to do it, you can do it, but I suggest a cautious approach to change ..

P

Thank you, Pauline.

To answer some of your questions.....

I think I'm eating way to much dairy. Even though I haven't gained weight from the Greek Yogurt, I am bloated. It shows in my measurements which I do every Monday.

I really don't like eggs. I don't know if you remember, but a while back I was complaining about eggs and you asked me why I was eating them.

I'm feeling like if I already don't eat much meat or eggs because I don't really like them and then drop the dairy, there isn't much left. (I need to be very careful with soy due to my thyroid and PCOS.)

Speaking of PCOS and hypothyroid, I've been reading recently that a vegan diet can help these....and these are not vegan sites, but PCOS and thyroid sites and books

I've tried SouthBeach but I felt, at the time, it had too many chemicals and processed items. Maybe I should look at it again.

Also, it's not so much that I want to follow my own plan, but know that I have problems with higher glycemic foods due to PCOS and hypothyroid. I have several plans I'm looking at.

I also know that I need to be very careful and find a plan that doesn't advocate bread or dessert (such as WW). I know myself enough to know that I JUST CAN'T EAT things like that without going into a binge spiral.

You make some good points and I will ponder them.

The lack of control I'm feeling and binge eating is scaring me.

I was thinking this morning in the shower and I think much of my recent eating is stemming from "Fear of Success."

If I change my eating plan, can I change those feelings? I know...two different things.

It's all so complicated.

I so appreciate your wisdom.
