My personal couch to 5K challenge
Starting weight 247ish...not totally sure because my scale recently broke. I got a smokin deal on a treadmill and I am going to do a couch (literally) to 5K challenge.
I plan to do a 5K run next summer. That gives me about 8 months to train and lose weight. My husband promised to do this with me. I have a "things to do before I die" list and I haven't crossed anything off since I went skydiving several years ago. If I can run a 5K I can cross another one off. This will also help me with the scuba diving one. I don't want to get in a bathing suit or ultra huge wetsuit at this weight. Whew! wish me luck! |

Mood=good
I did my first workout tonight. I found a program that takes 7 months to complete. I also found one that takes 9 weeks. I think I will do a combination of the two. My husband did his workout first and then encouraged me (insisted) to do mine. I was going to start on Monday but there is no time like the present. I feel a great sense of accomplishment. Thanks hubby for making me follow through. I've also been on plan with my eating for the last 2 days. My goal is to make it through the holidays without a cheat. I did it last year so I know it's possible. |

Weight=not sure, no scale yet mood=had a panic attack earlier but feeling better now Hi Diane! Thanks for cheering me on! The challenge I'm doing says to work out 3 times a week so I'm taking today off. Last night's workout was pretty hard. I only have to run for 60 seconds at a time but I've never ran in my life. I hope I like it as much as I have always imagined I will. I've done well food wise and I'm getting that water in. My daughter made her yummy homemade brownies today but NONE for me. |

Good job Jazlyn..
You ran longer than me so be proud.. I don't run either unless somebody is chasing me..then I would still have to call for a time out to breathe. Just think...one day soon that 60 seconds will seems like a walk in the park Wishing you a happy ON PLAN day today |

:::waving to Diane:::
Monday Weight=still no scale, ordered one from online this morning though mood=good but a little unmotivated Well I did it. My second day of walk/running. I tweaked the program a little more today. I ran for 30 seconds and walked for 60 seconds etc. Running for 60 seconds at a time made me feel like my legs were going to turn to jello and I was going to go flinging off the treadmill. I'm going to do the 30 second run/60 second walk for a week and then start with the 60 second run/90 second walk. This is going to take me some time. I really did get off the couch to start doing this but I am determined to follow through. Foodwise I had a great weekend until late last night. I caved and ate some brownies. BAD, BAD Jazlyn! So it's back to the cravings for 3 days or so until I get the sugar crap out of my system. I have been drinking a lot of water and almost no soda so all in all not bad. |

Weight=not sure Mood=a little sad I'm bipolar so I tend to have mood swings. That is why I like to keep track of my mood, so I can make sure the 4 different kinds of medications I'm on are working. Today is a rest day. Today's food B bacon, coffee with cream and splenda L slimstyles D hamburger patties, broccli and cheese sauce I'm having a hard time with my youngest son. I try so hard with him, to be fair and to be a good parent. I think it's because he's adopted. I tend to feel guilty if I feel like I'm not doing the right thing. Right now he hates karate ( he says he hates it but I think it's more that it interferes with his play time) and I'm torn between letting him quit and teaching him that you need to follow through on commitments. I didn't let my other two kids quit until they were at least a blue belt but they were older when they started. He does have other interests such as scouts and snowboarding. He also plays basketball and baseball. He never throws a fit going to these activities. I wish I had an owners manual. |

Hi Jazlyn...menu looks good and kudos to sticking with the exercise. Make sure you eat enough food, especially with your exercising...I know I am always on you about eating enough aren't I...because I care...
How much longer does your son have in karate? If it is over soon, is the fight worth it not letting him drop out. I understand you wanting him to stay with what he joined, but since he is in other activities than he does show committment. Will you lose money if he drops out? If so, maybe then you just need to let him know to finish this session then he can drop out. Tough call...good luck

Hi DianeThanks for stopping by! I have decided to let him quit after this month is over. I'm paid up until then and that will give him a chance to think about if he really wants to quit or not. BTW I love your jacket! |

Too bad he wants to quit, I think it is great for kids (or anybody..especially females though) to learn self defense... |

Thursday
Weight=stupid scale has not arrived mood=unmotivated It's 7 am and I'm staring at the treadmill. I will get on it as soon as all the kids leave for school. I'm not as sore today. I took two days off in a row so that means I will have to exercize today and Saturday to get my 3 days in this week. I volunteer at my son's school on Thursdays. I'm dreading it. I like doing it but I am just not in a place mentally where I want to leave the house lately. I'll BBL to post after I exercize. |

When you do the treadmill..do you do it in front of the tv or put on some music? Maybe that will help. Can you do different kinds of exercise for variety?
Being sore is good..isn't it...keep at it and you won't be so sore. We are in your corner Jazlyn...couch to 5k...here you come |

Hi Diane, I do have the TV on while I do the treadmill but it's behind me. lol
Usually I'm so busy trying to figure out my timing of when to walk and when to run I don't even listen to the tv anyway. I really appreciate your support. You are keeping me going on this. I just got back from volunteering at the school. I exercized before I left. Shouldn't it be getting easier? I felt like I was going to die. Each time I ran, my legs felt like jello. I did walk and run a little faster today. Maybe that is why. I can't wait until next spring. I'll be running outside! YAY! My scale still hasn't arrived. I NEED to weigh. It gives me motivation. |

Jazlyn, it will get easier... Now don't push too hard at the beginning...build up your momentum so you don't injure yourself. It has been a while since you started exercising so remember before you run to stretch those legs out a bit as well. When you get to a comfortable pace then push yourself more. You can do this Jazlyn...
I am just so impressed with you running at all...I don't run..I tried jogging when I walked...I would walk then jog for a bit walk..jog etc... now I just walk and look at you running..... Of course I have to say...remember to eat enough food as well...balance it all out so you can lose the fat. Keep it up Jazlyn...I am so proud of you |

Hi Diane
Friday Weight=still no scale Mood=good! Today is a rest day for me. I'm feeling less sore after working out yesterday than usual but it sure was hard. I think I'm going to do some stretches today and maybe a little walking. I'm feeling great today. I think it's because I have no where to go. I really am a homebody. I do have date night tonight with my husband but I enjoy leaving the house for that. I'm having problems with my dryer (again!) Luckily I bought an extended warranty. This is the third time I've had to get it fixed. ok I'm off to clean in case the dryer guy comes today. |

Thanks Diane. We usually just go out to eat but any night I don't have to cook is a good night! We get the kids pizza and let them stay home. We may have to cut back on this soon though. Our finances aren't what they used to be since I went on perminant disability.
I can still cook a nice meal and we can rent a movie or something. |

Weight 251.5 ![]() Mood=good My new scale finally arrived yesterday and then I got my old one working again. Go figure. I'm a little disappointed at my weight. I'm 4.5 lbs heavier than last time I weighed. I had my husband weigh to make sure it wasn't the scale but he was the same so it's just me. I am so sore this morning. I don't know what I did yesterday but I can hardly walk today. My knee and back were so sore last night I couldn't get a good night's sleep. I did do a lot of cleaning. It is a workout day for me though and I am going to follow through, even if I have to walk most of the way. |

How are you feeling Jazlyn?
Maybe you pulled a muscle or something..be careful and don't push too hard...we don't want you injured... So now you know what the dreaded scale says...and now you get to watch that number go DOWN DOWN DOWN... Take care |

Weight 252.5 Mood=good Hi Diane I'm feeling much better today. Much less sore. I even got a good night's sleep last night (except for the dog getting me up to let him out..I think he has bladder problems )Ok I'm here to admit it. I didn't work out all weekend. I was just too sore. That isn't even a good excuse because I could have walked. I didn't stay on plan either and was rewarded with a one pound gain. That makes 13 lbs that I have gained back since I have been going back and forth. On plan, off plan. It's getting old and I'm going to gain everything back if I don't watch it. So here I am with new resolve. I will stay on plan today. I will exercize today. I will post in the challenge thread and I will drink a lot of water. |

Jazlyn - I started the couch to 5K program last week also and I was very sore with shins and muscles! Sometimes I think we do more than we are supposed to - to start!
You are doing so well! Keep it up - you've come along way already! ![]() |

Thanks Diane. I know you are right!
Hi Tracey! I'm glad to know I'm not the only one out there trying this. ![]() I just finished exercizing. I was feeling better but once I got done I was all sore again. I stretched out really good before and after so maybe that will help. I put off exercizing until 3 pm. I should have done it first thing this morning instead of dreading it all day. That is going to be my goal for tomorrow. Getting on the treadmill as soon as the kids leave for school. |

I am so sore tonight I can't hardly walk. My knee feels like it is going to just give out on me. I keep wondering, do I just work through the pain or do I slow down a lot and work my way up to the pace I tried to start out with.
One program I read about started out with just walking for 10 minutes the first whole week. I think maybe I am going to have to do that one. It adds in bicycling in at the end but by the time that happens (it's a 7 month program) I could ride my bike outside. All I know is that the one I'm trying to do is just too hard for me at this point. |

My suggestion Jazlyn...slow down. I like the program of walking for 10 minutes and gradually building up the workout.
We don't want you to get hurt and pull a muscle or something where you are unable to get around at all. You are doing great on the exercise Jazlyn...as much as you fight it...but start slow and work up to it okay... |

Weight-253 mood=good Diane, You are right. I need to start out more slowly. I had to get up in the middle of the night to let the dog out and I could hardly walk. My knees are just killing me. I think if I start out just walking for a while, I can also lose some weight before I start jogging and it won't be so hard on my joints. I talked to other people who started running at around my weight, I don't know how they did it. Today my house is still clean after working so hard on it yesterday. I went around last night and tidied all of the rooms so it would still be clean today. Maybe that is another reason I'm more sore. All that cleaning I did. So that leaves me with nothing to do today but exercize (oh and clean out my fridge, didn't get to that) I'll check back later with my food plan and verfiy that I did indeed walk lol |

Jazlyn - I went at it hard last week also and felt that way, step back, do as much as you can - pushing somewhat but not too much that you don't want to do it anymore - you know? You are doing great! If you weren't walking before, maybe you need to take a week of walking only up to a good pace and then add in the running? That will help to get your body used to it. I walk now one day and try to run in every other because my body is NOT used to it!
LOLOops - just noticed TXloser also had the same advice! LOL Have a great day - keep up the good work!!!
