Getting ripped
So this is my first journal entry, wow! I'm in the middle of Week 1 of my first BFL Challenge and I'm loving every second of it. Still struggling with getting my food ratios right (but RVCook is helping me), but my energy is great and I feel really good

So my head is spinning and I'm almost sorry I asked for help now. I know everyone is simply trying to help me, but the way they are telling me to eat I WILL GAIN FAT. Know how I know this? Bc I tried it before and gained fat. I get horrible cravings eating the way they tell me to, yet I get the impression everyone thinks I'm bad for being LC. Sorry, but I'm NOT doing 45% carbs right now, coming off of Stillman's. I'm not. Everyone is different so why do *I* have to do the exact same thing you did to get ripped? I feel like it's a "gang up on Heather" thread now, so I think I need to just step away from it for awhile, work on some food choices myself, then come back. Everyone is telling me 40% carbs, 40% p, 20% f. Yeah, I GET IT, but what I don't have the energy to explain is I was an athlete for a really long time, and you know what that way of eating did for me? MADE ME GAIN 100 pounds. I am not nor Have I ever been an emotional eater, and I've NEVER eaten junk. I'm extremely sensitive to carbs and CANNOT eat as many as the regular food pyramid/athletes think you should, period. I could run 20+ miles at a time, but yet I was always slightly chunky BC OF CARBS!
Everyone says "eat whole grain bread, watch your fat, throw in some veggies, eat some low GI fruit..." Yeah, and I ATE THAT WAY FOR THE LAST 25 YEARS and it MADE ME FAT! I get the impression people assume bc you're overweight, you sit and eat three pieces of cake a day and I never have. It REALLY shocked me coming from a LOW CARB board. Yeah, I think I need to step away from it. I asked for help, and I got it of sorts, but I'm not asking for it again. I'll research, ask people at the gym, and read up on things myself from now on. I'm not going back to feeling like a scolded child. And people wonder why no one ever comes back to boards/threads... Maybe bc this is supposed to be a support community, not a holier than thou community

Figured out my BMR-1702. TDEE-2042 (sedentary) to 2340 (lightly active). To lose, subtract 500-1,000 cals and that gives me 1200-1340, or 1540-1840. I'm pretty sure the lightly active is accurate, bc I can usually maintain well on about 2300-2400 cals, but I don't want to overestimate my TDEE bc of not calculating activity level right. So that gives me about 1340-1400 cals a day to lose about 2 lb. or the equivalent in fat a week. I'm not eating even close to enough, but it's bc I come from Stillman's at 600-900 cals a day. Today was about 1,000 cals, so better but still not good. I'm thinking of upping my cals 150 per day for each week, to slowly let my body adjust. So this week (week 1 of BFL) is 1,150 cals, week 2 is 1,300 cals, then week 3 is 1,350 cals, week 4 maybe slightly adjust it to closer to 1400, and see if I keep losing. Down 2 pounds on the scale today, which is nice.
Still struggling with macros, but at this point I will go on overload if I try to focus on cals PLUS all the lots of exercise PLUS macros, so I'm working on Cals and trying to slowly work macros out. Today was 1,000 cals, 180 cals from carbs, 400 from protein, and 420 from fat (eek!). That equates to 42% fat, 40% protein, 18% carbs, not what I want but better than where I was. Sounds like a solid plan! And good job figuring out your macros. It took me forever to figure that out, and I had help in the end.

So free days= BAD. Never doing a Free Day again. I was fine until I had a Frosty and THEN tore up Taco Bell. Ended up being 3k cals and I STILL feel like crap... Up on the scale to 196, too
![]() My biceps are killing me- so bad I had to start using the Icy Hot and now they feel a bit better, but let's hope they're ok when I go to do UBWO on Wed. At 5:30 am is Fasted Cardio w/ HIIT and a light LBWO... ugh, I miss my UBWO! (I love it so much I tore up my biceps! lol) Bought some body fat calipers so I can track my progress, and i can't wait to get them! |

LOL- Im the opposite- I love my lower body workout...there's something about not being able to sit down that gets me excited!!
I just wanted to add though that coming off Stillmans will definately make you retain water right now. Remember it akes 3500 kncal to make up pound of fat- so the only explanation is water, so I think its a great idea to slowly add back in the amounts of macros each week. Do you work out often? Or is his a first challenge for you>? |
