Macombs Journal <here we go now...>

O.K. I guess that one of the first things to do here is to start keeping track of eating and exercise and make a place to call home. I have a thread in the mAin lobby but this looks like the place everyone takes care of their "business"
I won't go on and on about how I got to this place in my life or failed attempts in the past but I will go on about how I know this WOL will do what I need to do if I can stay on track and keep hitting the goals I will surely keep for myself.
I have been to a few other boards and run into the friendly helpful folks that are truly sincere about helping opthers save their lives and that is who I am seeking here. it's that bad for me I need to save my life.
I will get into the swing a bit more after I get to know you all a little better and get this journal link into my siggy like others i've seen. for now
Peace & Light,
Mac

Hey Macomb Glad to see you found your way here.

Which plan are you following? I am on Atkins and LOVING it! DH even decided this morning that he wants all the carb foods packed up and given away because he has enjoyed all this great food so much he wants to stick with it also. (HUGE accomplishment).

I read about you wanting to "save your life" which is why I was compelled to write. I am in such bad physical shape that I am just sick of it! I have been pretty much homebound for nearly a year. Now, after only 2.5 weeks on Atkins, I am moving about so much more freely and I feel like I have way more energy. Course ... ANY energy would be way more than what I did have. I just know it will work out this time and I will regain my health.

I hope you will post your menus here also. I love reading others menus. Helps me decide what I want for dinner and also to see what is working for others.

Take Care and remember ....
WE CAN DO THIS .... TOGETHER!
Lynn

P.S. I just had to say CONGRATS on getting on track!

HEY!!! I"M STILL ALIVE!!! I am sooo busy running around and working that I am not doing a very good job at posting but on a more positive note I just dropped below the 300lb mark Oh Yeah !! I saw that 299 on the scale and did a little dance of joy. I am struggling with getting all the water in but I do try to get 8 cups at least. I am walking (almost) every night between 4 and 5 miles and lift a 20# dumbbell in the car while driving to and from work 4 times a day. I am doing 50 reps per arm 4 times a day and my arms are sore as hell!!! lol I know i'm a big whiney ass so i'll stop. The quantity of my meals is still too large but the quaslity is much better. I have been eating alot of chicken and salads but i compliment that with a yummy faux danish (scrambled eggs, splenda, vanilla, walnuts and a dallop of cream cheese nuked for a minute in a custard cup) those things save me when i have that craving that won't quit. One of my biggest temptations is Panera....more on that issue later
Peace & Light,
Mac

Congrats and getting below the 300# mark

I wouldn't worry to much about the high quantity of food for right now. As long as you are watching the carbs. You will reduce the quantity later without even trying because you will find you get full much more quickly. I was still preparing my plate with the serving sizes I was used to when I suddenly found I was leaving about half it on the plate once I was full. That is AMAZING to me! Now I have finally learned to put less on my plate and if I am having one of those days when it takes more to fill me up, I can always go back for seconds. I get one of those days every 3 days or so. You know ... days where you just want more and more. I just really watch the carbs those days and fill up on very low-carb foods.

Take care and remember ...

Hey Buddy - Good to see you. Good job on getting into the TWO's!
I highly recommend making up a batch of deviled eggs, and snacking on those. Simple - easy - and you can smoosh 2 halves back to gether to carry in a ziploc baggie in your lunch. Protein power at it's best! They are my "secret weapon" and almost always give my weight loss a boost.

Thanks For Stopping By

Well I was at the doctor yesterday afternoon with my 16 yr old daughter and while i was there I thought "what the heck" and went ahead and made an appointment for this Friday to see the doctor. "No big deal" you may say but, for me it is quite a big deal you see because I am a bull headed man and of Scottish/ Irish decent I have avoided going to the doctor for the last 25 years (with the exception of a visit for a torn rotator cuff)the problem I have is that every one I talk to these days tells me the same story "I had stomach problems and they stuck a camera up my butt" OR "I had leg cramps and they stuck a camera up my butt" OR "I had a hang nail and they stuck a camera up my butt" got the picture well guess what I DON"T want in my butt !! that's right ! so with that said you can see my problem I will call it -ANALOPTIPHOBIA- so I hope when I go to the doctor Friday and have my blood work done that is all that happens. I am like really freakin' out folks but I am going to do it so I have a starting set of numbers and a doctor to consult about weight and any other issues that arise. Wish me luck and if you hear a loud "you wanna put what where?" Friday afternoon you know my worst nightmare has become a reality
Peace & Light,
Mac

Hiya Mac

It was so nice of you to stop by my journal and leave a nice message. Same goes for you ... stop by my journal ANYTIME!

My mother was an excellent cook also. The food wasn't necessarily good for you but it was definately the best I have ever eaten! A LOT of my bad eating habits came from her table and then some from my Dad's table (at his house the food wasn't nearly as good ... but we were forced to eat adult sized plates of food). *sigh* I think I will rant about that some in my own journal. LOL

6 CHILDREN! Oh MY! You definately have your house, hands and heart full don't you! I hope you have a wonderful wife to help you out. Be careful waht you say .... there are prob some beautiful single women here already admiring your purty smile in your avatar. Okay, apparently some married women are also ... but we just look.

"ANALOPTIPHOBIA" Seriously though .. I can totally relate. I actually want (perhaps I should say need) to have that done but I am sooooo scared to. A lady I used to work with had it done and said she had to be up on her knees when they did it. I told her the only way I could do that is if the Doc was actually Michael Landon (Little House, Bonanza, Teenage Werewolf, etc) and that ain't gonna happen since he has passed away. My MIL told me she had it done and only had to lay on her side. The reason I want it done is to get a good "cleaning". The majority of us have old .. ahem ... "stuff" inside of us and that keeps us from being able to absorb our nutrients like we should. It has been linked to obesity, arthritis (any immuno disease actually), and many other things.

Let us know what the Doc says. I admire your courage for taking the step to make that appointment. Now lets see if you actually KEEP the appt. It is always hard to get men to go to doctors for some reason. "What? Just because my arm is barely attached you think I should go to the ER? Just give me a minute little girly-girl and you'll see I can sew it back on myself in a jiffy."

Oh yeah ... and stop by the Century Club sometime!

Take Care and Remember ...
WE CAN DO THIS ..... TOGETHER!

I have a water tip for you. I keep bottles in the fridge and I refill each night. As I finish a bottle I put it next to the sink. The bottles can't be to big or I think I will never get through it all and to small will fill the fridge up. So like Goldylocks it needs to be just right. I also take half of what I need to work with me and bring them back to refill each night. So I figure as long as I get them all in I am doing good. Anything over I just count as bonus.

Hope this helps!

I FINALLY learned to love water and I believe it was because I finally drank it from a water bottle. Last night I tried drinking a glass of ice water and once again ... yuck! Filled a bottle with ice-water and good to go. Maybe it is because the other glasses have had other things in it and that no matter what ... you can't get all the flavors out of it? I even bleach my glasses every so often to be sure all stains, tastes, etc are out but ... still hate water in them. Tried some in a styrofoam cup ... yuck!

I am the same way with coffee. I LOVE coffee in a GLASS coffee cup but can't stand it in a ceremic coffee mug or in styrofoam. DH can tell the difference in his coffee if served in anything other than glass also. In case you are wondering, it isn't just in our heads either. We are crazy folks that actually do blindfolded taste tests on a lot of things.

Hi All!! I am the same way with the water I like it out of a cold glass or glass bottle. I usually drink perrier or Krogers flavored water called Crystal Clear. I also am fortunate enough to live in a city that has excellent water that comes from a very deep well that taps into the sandstone shelf that goes from the great lakes to the Ohio river. The water is flavorful and rich in nutrients because of filtering through the sandstone for millions of years before it reaches Cincinnati. There are people in surrounding towns that come to our public fountains to fill water jugs (but I still can only drink so much water ) I hinted as to a problem that I have keeping away from the panera baked goods (satan in disguise for Atkins )well here is my problem.Every Saturday night I pick up Panera bread from a local store (Mgr. is a church member) and it usually consists of 5-6 giant garbage bags full of bread and bagels and then 3-6 rubbermaid sweater boxes full of pastries, cookies, brownies and all other kinds of evil carbs you could imagine. If I don't pick it up it just gets thrown away in the dumpster.then late Saturday night I carry all of this into the house and sort it out for delivery the next day. I take the bread & bagels to 3 different food pantrys at local churches of differing denominations. Then since the pastries don't freeze well I take them into the church I attend and share them with the congregation for our coffee, confections and conversation gathering between services. If they eat it all then it is good but if they don't then it is bad and i load it up once again and haul it into my house and the kids get to pick out snacks for their school lunches. Then the next day I take whatever is left over and take it into my office to share with co-workers.This was not so bad in the beginning but a few weeks ago the food pantries that I deliver to started to tell me they had no more room to freeze the bread and they are thinking about turkey storage for thanksgiving etc....bottom line they want me to only deliver every other week now and on the week I have no place to deliver the bags and bags of baked goods ....the carb demons begin to whisper to me and I try to get rid of the bread and the carb demons point me towards the shortbread cookies that are left then I tell the demons NO!!! but it's touugh...real hard....but I love helping those in need and it only takes a little gas and time. that is the scenario as it plays out in my life over and over does anyone have any suggestions on how to help me resist the temptation but still help those in need ? I would love to hear any idea to help me through the dark times until the smell of baked goods is out of the air at the house. any way I won't ramble on forever so have a great day and just tell those evil carb demons ...."is that a baguette in your hand or are you just happy to see me?"
Peace & Light,
Mac

Good Morning Mac

Are there any shelters around you? I know homeless shelters could really use the food. I bet if you contacted DFACS they would know plenty of places that need it. You could prob even deliver it to DFACS and they could give it to people as they came in. Might be worth a try to get those demons away from you. Do I hear an AMEN?
