I wanted to come over and post and let you know I DID read the weekend thread (today, the weekend/yesterday was a blur!!!) and I'm so sorry you and DH are having issues - serious ones to boot!!!

DH and I went through a rough patch about a year ago and I contemplated us separating... Long story short (I hope) is that because I was so undecided, I had to think of it this way...

If I have him leave, and he was serious about changing and did change, then I was hurting DD for not having a father around.
If I had him stay and he didn't change, he was only hurting me.

Now, that's the mentality that worked for me with our issues... And in the end, DH DID change and we're in a happier, stronger place because of it... But, in your case, I think that with the behavior you shared from your DH this past weekend, it's crossed the line of affecting your kids if he stays/goes type thing.

More than anything, DH and I had to learn how to communicate - AS ADULTS!!! So much of our time in the two years we were having issues was because we never talked as husband/wife... it was ONLY as mommy/daddy. It was like we had this huge imbalance in our lives... We LOVED being mommy & daddy... but we totally abandoned being husband & wife. Think about it as a see-saw (you know, those things on the playground where two people sit on it and teeter-totter up and down...

...) ... We were sooo happy with DD and being mom/dad that the other "seat" on the teeter-totter was empty... that's where the husband/wife part was supposed to be... So, you see we were soooo outta balance that we couldn't communicate rationally with each other. We only talked about DD and issues that revolved around that. We used her as an excuse for every issue in our marriage... and never made the connection that we had virtually abandonded our marriage...

So, again, long story short (yeah, right

.), when we finally realized that we HAD to salvage our marriage and define ourselves again as husband/wife in order to be a better mommy/daddy... It all worked itself out. It was a rocky-ROCKY road... but, in a short time we were able to recognize our issues and try to work through things TOGETHER!!! We talk a lot now, and the effort is on BOTH our parts... We still have discussions to refocus our lives equally between DH/DW and mom/dad... and it's something we will always have to work on...

I hope this makes sense... and more than anything, I hope you and your DH get through this together!!!!

YES, THAT MAKES SENSE and is so US. thank for posting it and i thought you had a perfect marriage. see the prob w/us i think is we have pretty much been or he has been a daddy...kids have always been here. thats hard to have a ready made family especially when i was so young and inexperienced for the love you have for your child. i told dh awhile back that we need to do things alone...i feel bad in my heart..but know in my head it only makes sense. kids are awesome but you still need to be the husband and wife at times like you said and not just mommy and daddy. Thanks so much..we really do need balance in our life!!

I can't hold DD responsible for making me have a good marriage... that has to be up to DH and I, ya know?

The first "date" DH and I had when we set out to (yes) schedule out date nights I cried for an hour or so after we dropped her off... knowing it was her first overnight away from us/me. So, it WAS and still IS really hard to do.

But just like we've all said (about our weightloss and stuff), YOU ARE WORTH IT!!! A small sacrafice now... will pay off BIG in the longterm!!!
