No, it is wonderful news!! I'm going for dinner tomorrow night and it should be fun. These past couple of months I've gotten a lot closer with my parents and I really enjoy being around them!

Leeney- I wrote you a message on the challenge- I guess we were posting at the same time so I totally didn't see your post until now! I am so sorry for your loss and I am sorry I didn't see your post earlier!

You are in my thoughts!

Vienna, please may I use your journal to express my sympathies to Leenie?

I am not a visitor to the 10 lb challenge generally but after reading your post I took a look.

Leenie, I am so sorry for your loss. I haven't had a similar experience, though for many reasons I have learnt that you can ever let those you love know that often enough.

On that vein Vienna, as Leenie has said, I do hope that your relationship with your Mother continues to bloom. My daughter, MintQ8, who introduced me to this site, is truly one of my dearest friends as well as being a daughter in whom I have such pride. We live on opposite sides of the world but it is as nothing. She is always right beside me, giving me strength.

Hope you had a lovely evening.

Aww, you guys are really so sweet. I wish I had good hearts like yours, close to me, rather than so far away. Thank you so much. Really.

Leeney- your message was beautiful- It made me cry Thank goodness I wasn't wearing mascara yet! In all seriousness- I am sorry again for your loss- your brother sounded like a wonderful man and always remember that he is by you. If you ever need a virtual hug come on by!

Kissa- that is wonderful that your daughter is on this board too- I actually had a nightmare that my mother was on this board Tonight should be fun with them- i just bought a good cheap red wine so I'm all set!

Last night my friend cancelled- she got a call from Ireland that her dad wasn't doing too well. She messaged me later and it turns out he's fine so that is a great relief....

I'm wearing a grey pencil skirt today and it is pretty tight that when I walk my hips keep swaying like Jessica Rabbit Some people like this effect I can't stand it!! I'm a stomper when I walk and I walk fast- it feels like it takes double the time to walk anywhere Thank goodness there aren't a lot of people around right now- I can get my coffee slowly.

Did my 30 minutes on the trainer again- watched Will and Grace while I was doing it and feeling good!!

I've been getting a lot done this morning at work- feels good. I had some peanuts as a snack and a coffee with soy milk. Right now I'm drinking a diet coke. The boss is coming back tonight so I have to get a lot done. Leaving around 4:30 today- my mom wants me to come earlier- she mentioned something about boots that she saw

This is how exciting it gets in Austria!! This was all over the news the last couple of days!!

Roadside rest-stop costs jeweler
Tue Jan 16, 2007 9:06am ET

VIENNA (Reuters) - Thieves snatched one million euros ($1.3 million) worth of jewelry from the trunk of a German designer's car when he left it to relieve himself.

jeweler Harald Hardy Herzmann, his security guard and a dog were all on the way to meet customers in the Austrian winter sports resort of Hochgurgl when Herzmann stopped nearby, according to local media.

"We all needed to go for a pee," Herzmann told daily Kronenzeitung.

The thieves smashed the back window of the car shortly after the two men left it and two suitcases full of necklaces, watches, bracelets and rings were taken, police said. A witness saw two young men running away.

Oy the most embarassing thing happened to me today!! I am wearing thigh high stockings under my skirt and as I headed to work today I felt one slipping down. When I was on the first subway I tried to casually yank it up.. Then going up the escalator to the next subway it started slipping again.. On the second subway I yanked it up again... When I headed to the streetcar it completely fell down to mid calf!! Oh the looks I got When I was safely on the streetcar- and no one was looking I pulled my skirt up to fix the stocking- well, the streetcar has glass doors and about 10 people at the station got a pretty good look... I am sooooo embarassed... This is such a typical thing to happen to me..

Like when the DH and I were in Tunisia on holiday we went out on our balcony and shut the door completely to keep the mosquitos out- well, the door locked and I was in a skimpy outfit- we were on the 6th floor.. After yelling for about 30 minutes people finally went out and yelled at us to keep quiet- we asked them to call reception and someone came and let us back in-oh the look we got

Sorry about your stocking!! It is a bit funny, because that is something that would happen to me. You probably made some people's day!!! Now that you are at work, did you fix it or take them off?
Oh and from a few posts up, did your mom buy you new boots???
I told my friend in Naples about Carnival and she said it sounds like Mardi Gras. (she is from New Orleans)
I like your story about Tunisia!! They should put little call boxes on the balconies that go straight to reception!!
Well it's almost the weekend, what are your plans? How much longer will your mom be in town?
Hope your having a great day!!

Hi SweetE! I don't think my white chicken thighs made anyone's day I didn't get the boots but there is always the weekend.

the only difference between the Venice carnival and Mardi Gras is probably the flashing. I tried but....

Big land hurricane is on its way! It should reach here in a few hours. Apparently the winds are going to reach 140 kmh! I'm heading home anyway to do some work but this should be pretty crazy!! I'll keep you updated!!

Thanks SweetE! They call it an Orkan- hurricane in German. The name is Kyrill. I guess this is the worst storm to hit in years- it could be it just passes right over us or it will hit us hard.. Taking the chairs of the balcony.. We'll see what happes

I guess if you don't get on for a while we'll know you got the Orkan and have lost power. It really is very hard to predict exactly where they will go, so it is best to be prepared. That is how so many people get hurt here, they just think it won't really come.
Are you and DH both home and safe?

Well, the meteorologists say it should hit sometime in the night- the DH should be home in a couple of hours and then I'm not letting him out!! I called my parents and they are going to stay in tonight too. I'm going to check the news and see what's up.. The creepy thing is that the weather is so calm today- a little bit of rain but no wind which is unusual in this city so I guess it is the calm before the storm. Thanks for your concern SweetE

Glad to hear DH will be home soon. Be sure you have some leagal foods to munch on by candle light if need be!
Do you have those metal shades that roll down on the outside of your windows? They had those in Germany and I thought they were pretty cool. I don't know why they don't use them here. It has to be a better alternative than plywood!!!

SweetE- We have those blinds but they are pretty flimsy- rolled them up just in case though...

Leeney-things seem to be OK now- I know that Berlin is getting it now and that is atleast 5 hours away so we'll see what happens.. We're staying in tonight- and I have lots and lots and lots of wine in case of emergency Thanks for your concern

I've been in 2 tornados- Croatia and Moscow (of all places ) I missed a bombing there too but that wasn't created by nature...
