Dietsprite's Journal

Original title, huh?
I can't say that I'll faithfully post in this journal. I seem to post for a while, then go months without posting, lol. I do best if I don't feel as if I have to post or check in, which is why I never did that well at challenges.

Well, I've been on atkins since May 2003, but I've been at the same weight for over a year because I keep slipping up and eating fried foods, several low carb products like lc bread, dreamfeilds pasta, tortillas and other things.
Recently I got back on track and this really feels like it, like I'm finally ready to be committed and start losing again.
I've cut out all the things that were holding me back, like coffee loaded with cream and splenda, penut butter, sunflower seeds, ect. These things always seemed to lead to me eating progressively worse and worse items.

So, I may be posting in here when I find the time, my menus and other things going on with my journey.

Started Scarsdale Medical Diet today. I have a cold, so that and the combination of less food is making me feel awful, but I definately need a change. I can't imagine ever eating any way but lowcarb, but I think I need to shake up my lowcarb method a bit in order to lose again because I've stopped and restarted far to much over the last year and a half. It's time to start losing again!
My starting weight is 204.5, I know, yikes. That's due to eating lots of breaded, fried food and other stuff I should have stayed away from. Let's hope I'm down next Monday. I really want to see some results.

Thanks Shirl.

Well, I've made it through most of the day. I'm about to have dinner. I have been feeling really hungry, but luckily I had some carrots at work to eat when I started feeling sick to my stomach and like I needed to eat something. It helped a little.
When I was at the grocery store shopping for all the food for the Scarsdale Medical Diet I was looking at it as I laid it on the counter and thinking "Wow, this looks a whole lot healthier than what I usually buy!" lol
There were so many fruits and vegatables up there. It felt nice.
So, my stomach is still adjusting, and it doesn't help that I'm consuming cough drops because of this cold(I'm sure the sugar doesn't help, but sugar free give me a horrible stomach ache) I think the menthol is part of what's making me feel ick, but I'm still excited about this WOE. I'm planning on doing it the whole 2 weeks. If I don't like it then or haven't seen good results, then maybe I can try something else, like the meat and eggs fast or fat fast. We'll see.
I really hope scarsdale works out for me though.

Today went pretty well. I still felt kind of sick in between meals, but not until it had been about two hours since my last meal. Eating some carrots helped a bit, but not completely.
But, the big news is that this morning I was 200.5! That's down 4lbs. Yes, I did gain these 4lbs pretty quickly, but to lose them in one day is still exciting.
So, though it's hard eating this way, it's worth it if I continue losing.
Plus, I love the meals. They seem bland on paper, but I'm so hungry by the time the time to eat comes around that they end up tasting really good, lol. Yes, in between the meals I feel like crap, but I think a lot of that is this cold I have right now, and my body adjusting to eating to much food much less food.

Rachael awesome so far!!! And, I'll totally agree with the foods...seems kinda blah until you start eating that way! And the grocery thing still amazes me, even after almost 6 weeks Such healthy wonderful food!!

My tastes have totally changed now. I think I really would have a rough time going back to all that fat (as much as I LOVE it!) after this WOE.

Well, just wanted to check in with you and tell you you're off to a wonderful start!!! KUTGW!!!

Okay...between you and Flutterbyu and SunaBee, I am starting to think seriously about doing the SMD!!! You have had an exceptional past few days!!! My only problem is when I read the link about Scarsdale...I start to feel overwhelmed...It is very different from Atkins and I've got that one down....But...I still can't help wondering what would happen on SMD. Did you feel weird at first eating...fruit! I haven't put a piece of fruit in my mouth for so....long!!! ---It would seem like I'm cheating...How did you get into the right mindset?

P.S. ---You and Flutterbyu look so good at your current weights!!! If I had to guess your weight without your post, I would have said that you weighed at your goal weight! When I weighed close to 200 pounds---I looked terrible. Must be my age?

Thank you
I do look so much better than when I started over 50lbs ago, but I still have a ways to go.
Here's a picture that shows more of me and shows a little more that I still need to lose weight:

I'm the one on the left with the orange shirt, lol.
I have a pretty good body image, I don't feel as if I look horrible at this weight, but I know I'm not in a healthy weight range for my height, I really want to be at a healthy weight, especially because I'm on my feet so much at work, it would make things a lot easier.

As for your first post, the way I adjusted my mindset to Scarsdale, I just told myself "It's still lowcarb, it's just a different form of lowcarb"
I couldn't imagine ever leaving the lowcarb way of eating all together, but after 1 1/2 years of staying at the same weight I realized that Atkins just wasn't working at the moment for me, probably because I stopped(not completely, but by eating fried foods and such) and restarted so much. I didn't know what to do, I was so ready to start losing weight again, but the scale wasn't moving, so when I saw other people's posts about scarsdale I decided to give it a try.
I really like it. And it's realatively easy because you're told exactly what to eat, lol.

Andrea thanks for your encourangement!

Day 6 and I'm down to 194.5lbs, from 204.5! Yay!
And the hunger pains are gone. I have no trouble in between meals anymore. I don't feel sick or hungry and can wait a lot longer in between meals.

I am still adjusting to not being able to eat a snack anytime I'm bored or need a pick me up. I've been using food to make me happy for so long that it's hard to adjust, however it's really important that I do adjust. Food is meant for nutrition. I just have to get used to that idea, lol.

Ate to much for dinner last night, and had way to much salt/sodium, so I'm up to 195.5 today.
That's okay, it will go back down soon.

Down to 192.5 this morning! So that's 1/2 a pound lighter than before I went up!
Supper last night was soooo good. I sauteed the shrimp in that Mazola Pure Olive Oil Cooking Spray with some garlic powder. Then I sprayed my slice of bread with it, sprinkled a tiny bit of garlic powder on that as well, popped it in the over to toast, flipped it, and then cut it up to make crutons for my salad of romain lettuce. I put the shrimp and croutons on the romain with some basalmic vinegar dressing spray. It was sooo good, I wanted to keep on eating, but I stopped once I was satisfied.

Woot, I just realized I'm only 3lbs from the 180's!!!!
I got down to 189 months and months ago, but went back to the 190's almost immediantly! I can't wait to get back there and this time I'll only be going down to the 170's, not up to the 190's!
Wooo, I love Scarsdale! lol
Let's hope I do well with Keep Trim next week. I start it on Monday. I almost wish I could just stay on Scarsdale instead of cycling every two weeks, but from what I've read it's best to do KT.

I forgot to weigh in this morning before jumping in the shower, so when I did weigh in my hair was wet, which may have affected the weight. I was 192.5, which is fine with me. Can't wait to see what it is in the morning.

Good job Rachael. I see you and Katie are both doing Scarsdale. I am jealous that you have such a close support system. My roommate/friend who is pretty much like my sister doesn't support my low-carb lifestyle and criticizes me all the time!!

Keep up the great work!

^Aw, yes it can be really annoying when people don't support you. It really helps having Katie doing it with me.
Our bestfriend Amber seems to go back and forth between supporting us and not supporting us. I think she may be just a little bit threatened that we're getting close to her weight and we've always been bigger than her. Luckily most of the time she choses to support us, lol.

That's to bad that she's not supportive. She should at least respect that this works for you and stop criticizing it. I'm very thankful to have someone to do this with me. I've tried the meat and egg fast and other things like that before solo and failed miserably. lol Definitely much easier if you have someone to go through it with you. But that’s the great thing about lowcarbfriends, you can always find support when you don’t have it at home.
