Weight Loss Goals...?

I notice that a lot of people have where they are at weight wise and what the want to get down to. But i have noticed that some people are setting weekly or monthly goals for themselves.

Do you think it helps to set these shorter term goals? How do you figure what is reasonable?

I have looked at the amount i have to loose on different occasions and it is always daunting. What if you dont make that short term goal of 10 lbs in one month?? Or is it more you find yourself working harder to get there??
