meowville's journal

I have been a lurker for quite some time and have decided to quit lurking and get busy. A quick history of me my highest weight ever was 319 pounds and i am about 5ft2. i had gastric bypass surgery in 2001 and lost done to 170. after a while a developed gall bladder problems and had it removed. i also developed a reaction to one of my preventive migraine meds and lost down to 150 living on diet coke and painkillers and spent a few weeks hosipitalized. my weight has since rebouned back up to 197 and i am miserable. bypass surgery saved my life and i don't regret having it done, however it is not a cure all. i am trying to get my life back on track

first step is my mental health: my depression has been coming back along with my panic attacks. 1st step i talked with my neurologist and have restarted taking an antidepessant and have a perscription to take when the panic attacks get too bad. i also have started this journal and a private handwrittin one at home. my goal is to start writting in both of this in a more frequent manner.

second step- diet changes. i am giving myself today and tommorrow to get my stuff in order and with restart induction on Sunday june 4. today i am planning out some menus and tomorrow will go grocery shopping do some cooking. this week coming up is my crazy week at work. i work 12 hr shifts with a 37 miles each way commute this week i work mon, tues, fri sat sun and mon. so sunday june 4 and thursday june 7 are my big cooking days. because i do a lot on days i work. i leave home at 6am and get back aound 930 pm. on days i work i need to bring in an entire days worth of food or else i am so temtpted by the junk food machines and the hospital cafeteria and oh yes we even have a mcdonalds on the hospital campus.

third step in physical exersise. i am going to start wearing a pedometer at work and try to get to 10,000 steps per day when i work. my job is mainly sedatary, will try to wall around campus on my lunch break and voluntereing to go pick up stuff from other departments. i will also try to use the stairs more. i also have a 30 min relaxing yoga cd that i will try to do in the evening after i get gome from work- maybe it will help my relax and sleep better. on days i don't work i have a goal of a 30 min bike ride or walk. i have some workout videos but our basement is a mess-we're trying to finish it ourselves and i would have to do some major rearrangeing to be able to have the room to do the tapes.

i am looking forward to meeting all of you and having you hold me accountable for my actions.

thanks

It's nice to meet you Meowville! Have you decided how you're planning on losing weight? Atkins, South Beach, etc.? I'm on Atkins (2nd time around) and just started OWL. I did like you're planning. I set a date to start, planned a menu for the 1st week, shopped for the foods I'd need, then cooked up what I'd eat when I started. I think that helped me a lot during the 2 weeks of induction. Looking at your work schedule, packing plenty of foods to eat and snack on will help a lot. I'm sure you'll do great. Make sure to drink plenty of water! I hope to come back and read that you've lost weight after the 1st week and that you're feeling good!!!!

I am going to do 2 weeks atkins induction with a couple of differences from dandr. the earlier version i had allowed cottage cheese and yogurt during induction. also i will allow myself nuts. i need the protein from these and because of my bypass these are the easiest to eat. for the most part i can eat everything i want, but sometimes my system is tempermental and if i don't chew things very well or swallow to fast things get stuck and the easiest way to get them out again is to throw up. after that for a while like cottage cheese and yorgurt to help settle things down again.
i think my biggest problem has been depression , i eat more and less healthy when depressed, drink more, don't exercies, watch more tv, have more headaches, take more pills and spiral downward. i have to stop this spiral down for myself and for my husband, and for my niece. I am starting to plan my meals for the first 2 weeks. on sunday i need to put together all the food i will need for mon and tues @ work, wed i'll be able to cook and eat at home, thursday i have to go to my nieces graduation from preschool to kindergarden ceremony, and then i need to put together my meals for fri thru mon. i leave home a 6 am and get home @ 815pm each day i work. so needless to say i am exhasted when i get home and don't want the stress of cooking meals then. one night over the weekend i will probably stay at my sisters house to save a little cash, she lives about 20 min from where i work, plus i get to see my 4 year niece who brings me much joy and happiness
