Twyla, we love you, too!! Sooooo friggin' much!!

YOU are one of the strongest women I have ever known in my life;
your Momma is fortunate to have YOU as one of her pillars of support.

Please, let us know your Momma's first name?
I would like to send healing white light & positive energy directly to her ~
and it's easier to "visualize" with a name (a photo is best; but a name will do).

Your Mom is on a Journey now; there is much to be learned along the way.
You know I speak from experience; I wouldn't trade my Journey for anything.

Look for the incredibly special moments;
the smiles within the tears;
that will create lasting & permanent memories;
that nothing can take away from you;
no matter what

THANK YOU, RICH.

I realize that in facing the days ahead with my Mom's illness, I'm gonna have "valleys." I need to embrace the valleys, work through them, bounce back. I have decided that I need to be strong for her. I want to be an anchor for her.

It's funny how when life seems more fleeting, how the most insignificant comments become epic for the first time. When I stopped by after work today to visit with her, her energy was good, she was smiling, laughing, commented that it was "a good day" for her. She eagerly showed me her blooming tulips (epic) and her birds on the feeder just outside her window where she sits and watches them (epic). We laughed and talked and rejoiced for the sunshine. She said it was built-in pain reliever for her. (Thank you, God) I helped her with some things she didn't have the strength for. I promised to bring her almonds and blueberries and "yummy hazelnut coffee" on my next visit. She said, "I want to eat the things you eat. I like your food." (My sisters tend to bring her, uh, well, not-so-healthy treats and such, thinking she'll enjoy them, etc. -- she doesn't. She likes eating healthy.)

Okay. So as for carrying on with my program: More important to me than evah.

Today was a low day. Seamless. Tomorrow, repeat. I may try to get in a run tomorrow late afternoon. Sunny, warmer temps for the next couple of days.

TOTALS: (If I get hungry later, I'll eat a small protein/fat snack)

CALS............1501

CARBS.............58 (14%)

TBF, Thank you for your well wishes, lady.

Updating for Friday March 5th.

Low day in carbs. Tracked up through dinner: around 1000 cals, and 35ish carbs. For dinner, grilled chicken (OH.SO.YUMMY.) and then sliced it up on a salad. Hit the spot. So delicious. Had my usual (much-needed) adult beverages for my Friday chillaxin moments. Ate about 6 dark-chocolate covered almonds with coffee for dessert. So all in all, it was a decent day. So ready for a high carb day.

I desperately wanted to run yesterday late afternoon, but I was getting strong signals that my energy to do that JUST WASN'T THERE. Feeling quite depleted. So I'll definitely take advantage of today's carb up and this gorgeous sunshine to get my run in (Kelley????), no exceptions. I try not to do runs on LB days, and today is a LB day. I'll see what I can do. I'll give it a go and do what I can. LB first.

Also on the agenda today: Getting my nails done, spending some time this afternoon with Mom, taking her to have her hair done, getting her some groceries; and soaking up as much UV rays from the sun as I can possibly get.

Bring on the sun.

Anyone's life truly lived consists of work,
sunshine, exercise, soap,
plenty of fresh air,
and a happy contented spirit.

Yes! It does help me!! I'm so glad you post it. It's nice to have the guidance when I am starting something new.
Yesterday after work I did UPWO. I was really wanting to get in a run as well, but I was exausted from the day. I depleted all my energy from lifing, and the treadmill wasn't looking to great at the end. LOL
Today is supposed to be in the 50's here, warmest its been in a long time. Some scattered rain, but I'll take it! I just want all this snow gone.
DH's friend is getting married on March 27th... He is going to be the best man. It will be an evening wedding, and I have such a pretty dress to wear. I love getting dressed up and I'm so excited! I keep putting my dress on prancing around my room. It makes me feel so girly...

Have fun Twyla getting your nails done! Enjoy your day with your mom

Updating Saturday's carb up day:

I began the day with intentions of increasing my carbs closer to the 300 range. I noticed that last week's high day didn't seem to have the lasting effects as I've experienced in the past. Maybe it's because I've messed with my middle-week rotations a bit and I'm just simply not getting sufficient carbs for the necessary energy to keep up with my training schedule overall. I suspect that is the culprit. But regardless, I thought: Okay. Take it up a notch to 300 and get to maintenance or over on calories.

Success. I can't give an accurate account of the entire day, because I went out to dinner, but I will ballpark my carbs at around 315, and my cals were close to 2300. I felt a bit bloated last night, but I'll attrribute that to the Ultras I drank with dinner (they have that effect on me) more so than the extra carbs or calories.

This morning I feel fine. But my *ss is SCREAMING from yesterday's training. I began feeling the soreness as early as the middle of the night when I had to get up to go to the bathroom. Glutes were noticeably sore. Yesterday's LB workout was intense. Felt great. I moved up in 5 lb increments on deadlifts with each set (5 sets) also. Then, even though it probably wasn't wise, I went for a run late afternoon, the muscles in my legs already in "breakdown" mode from the training. But I just did NOT want to miss out a perfect opportunity weather wise for a run. I'm very rusty with my runs. Gonna have to work up slowly. And it's amazing how the RIGHT music can make all the difference in go power, not only physically, but mentally.

I'm thinking today should be a rest day. Likely will be. Back to VLC today. Wednesday I'll go with carbs in the 125-150 range, cals close to 1900. Gonna try to keep cals between 1600-1800 all other days this week, excepting Saturday's high day.

I'm due training for back and chest. Was gonna do that today, but I think I'll wait until tomorrow.

Got my nails done and spent time with Mom. Bought her some groceries. The stylist who does her hair (I took her to her appt) bought her a sweet little stuffed lion, as a reminder to her for "courage." Precious! Warmed my mom's heart so. I placed it on her nightstand so that it would be the first thing she saw as she woke up each morning.

I find myself waking in the middle of the night now in a semi-panic sadness about her.

I hope today's sun brings her reasons to smile, a source of hope and renewal.

SATURDAY TOTALS:

(Nutrition as mentioned)

WORKOUTS:

20 MINS AB JAM
50 MINS LB TRAINING
35 MINS CARDIO (running; easy intervals)

Hi Twyla! Good job with your workout! LOL
I am thinking about increasing my cardio a bit as well. Right now I do HIIT 2 days a week, alternating it on weight training days which is 3 days a week. I do the 20 minute turbo jam 2 days a week and lately I have been taking saturday and sundays off due to working 13 hours a day. I know its no excuse, but I use it as one anyways.
I think I am finally getting the hang of carb cycling. Today is a LC day, 50ish... and then i'll go back to my usualy moderate carb of 100ish, I think I'll have a refeed again on Thursday. I usually do heavy lifting after work on Fridays, so that will get me primed for that!
That was so sweet of you stylist to give your mom the lion... It's nice to see that eveyone is thinking of you and your family....
That reminds me!! I have a hair appointment tomorrow. Its been a while, I am so do for a hair cut!!

Jamie, don't diss yourself for taking two days off for rest each week. I have an addiction, and I have to FORCE myself to take a day's rest, even though I KNOW it's best for me in the long run.

As for the extra cardio, I keep revisiting the concept that some people -- specifically endormorphs -- need more cardio when trying to diet and/or burn fat. I've put on about 4-5 lbs in the last month. It crept on me outta nowhere and I'm PISSED about it. (Lazy winter months) So I'm refocusing lately, and adding more cardio is part of my plan. It's interesting to me that when you look through the pages of Oxygen, for example, and read profiles of women, whether they're competitors in some fashion, PT's, or just fitness enthusiasts, 75% or more of those stories say they incorporate 4-5 days of cardio in addition to the training.

Just sayin...?

So I'm trying to give cardio a fair shake for the month of March.

Thanks! I just subscribed to Oxygen! I bought one from the store the other day, and now Im addicted! LOL
I was trying to figure out what kind of morph I am, and I think Mesomorph. Im not skinny and lanky, but I also dont gain fat easily either... I have always been muscular and strong, even without working out. thank you genetics... I am adopted and I have always wanted to meet the biological side of me.
Sorry about your gain! Im sure you will lose it. You know your body very well, more than anyone else I know! I know exactly how you feel though. I took an anti anxiety med a couple years ago, and in 1 month I gained 12 pounds! I have never been able to get down to the weight that I was, I always stop at 140-142.
I try to do cardio after I lift, but I can never go very long... 15 minutes tops for a jog. I guess its better than nothing.
Before I started BFL, I would workout and do my cardio first. AT least 35 minutes of HIIT, 4 days a week, then I would lift afterwards and do a 3 day split. 2 days on, off one, and 2 days on again. I'm thinking about going back to that, what are you thoughts of doing lifting After cardio?

If you choose to do cardio on the same days as lifting, 15-20 mins of s/s cardio after lifting is adequate.

Jamie, IMO, 4 days of HIIT per week is excessive.

When I train early mornings (5:30 am), I like to do about 10 mins of light cardio to warm up before I lift. Warm my muscles up to help prevent injury. If I'm doing cardio and lifting on the same day, same session, I prefer to do my lifting FIRST, because I want to have the most energy for my lifting. If you're training hard and intensely, it's best to do cardio after. If you're training less intensely, higher reps, lower weight, not pushing it, I've heard it doesn't make as much difference.

SUNDAY MAR 7

Sunny day today, but a little cool at times. I was thankful to see the blue skies and the bright warmth of the sun regardless.

My lower body felt trashed all day from yesterday's training and run, so I didn't need any extra coaxing to give in to a rest day. I welcomed it. I think I'll sleep well tonight.

Low day in carbs. Was supposed to start TOM today. Felt a bit of cravings. Manageable.

Twyla, I usually do about 10 minutes warm up as well. I normally do that on a stationary bike. I'm happy to hear that 15 minutes of cardio is adequate after lifting
I am lifting heavy so cardio After it is!! Thanks
Getting ready for LBWO today I love LBWO days... I love all my work out days. LOL I really need to focus today and get a great workout!

MONDAY MAR 8

Although today was to have been a low carb day, my inner body signals were telling me two things: I needed more carbs and more calories. I'm zapped. No energy. I overslept this morning, and even with the extra sleep, I couldn't get going.

I ate clean carbs, good choices, but upped it to a moderate carb day and got my cals up close to 1900 range.

The fatigue I've been feeling the last several days has to represent more than just having extra stress/worry/emotions to deal with. I think I need to listen to my fuel needs as well. Adjust up, adjust down. As needed. It's a lesson I've learned in the not-too-distant past, but can be easily forgotten when in the "diet" frame of mind.

More cardio this week on the menu as well.

Operative word today: Cruise control.

It is a great way to revamp the body,
light weights, slow steady state cardio,
and more days at maintenance."

TOTALS

CALS.................1898
PROT..................188 40%
CARBS................146 28%
FIBER...................23
FAT......................75 35%

WORKOUTS:

60 MINS CARDIO
10 MINS P90 AB RIPPER

Hi Twyla
I had the same issue yesterday, LOL. It was supposed to be LC, but, I felt the same way. I needed a recharge. I did LBWO, and I really blasted my butt. Walking lunges with a 5 count pulse on each step. I feel like I'm just not getting much out of my workouts. My legs still look squishy and giggly. I had a little over 2000 calories and 156 total carbs.. I'm really trying not to get a sluggish metabolism, or I should say. I am trying to repair my damaged metabolism. LOL that poor thing has been dealing with my shenanigans for a long time, and now I'm in healing and repair mode.

I'm sure that all the emotions and stresses are effecting you.. I wish I had some inspiring words to help you feel better. My poor mom went though a very hard time during my Grandpas last days, we all did.
After his passing, I felt this amazing euphoric sense of well being. I knew that the Holy Spirit was comforting him, and HE helped me feel that. Also, I was trying to imagine what his new LIFE was like... Awww,, grammpy..

I hope that wasn't depressing. I was getting goose bumps as I was typing that.

Today I am planning on doing Lower carbs. Its HIIT/cardio day and I know that on these days I get really hungry.

Jami, intense LB training is always a huge drain on my energy. That's why I chose to do a rest day on Sunday following Saturday's LB training. Jacking cals up sometimes is in order, particularly if you're listening to your body's signals for that fuel. No harm done. Backing down to LC for a few days will reboot everything.

Your shared sentiments on your Grandpa does NOT depress me. I find that I welcome others' experiences in dealing with these types of "valleys." It helps me put it in perspective and galvanizes my courage and inner strength.

Awww,, I'm glad to hear that. I feel like your sense of humor has been really helping ME lately! You are so funny.... I think that we have the same type of humor in certain ways.
I have been dealing with some personal issues with work... ugh! I have been trying to stay positive. No big deal, but it helps to visit with people who keep me happy!

Morning solitude.

Why is it that that first sip of coffee is always the BEST? In fact, the whole first cup goes down like liquid gold. Is that because I'm a caffeine addict? I suppose it is. Who cares. Coffee is positively medicinal and therapeutic, and oh such a pretty color, and yummy aroma, and socially acceptable...the list goes on. Love my java.

Didn't get to post updates yesterday evening. Hugely busy evening, right up until an hour past my bedtime. It was Bunco night, for starters, and that took up most of my evening. I welcomed the distraction of friends and laughter. Was hoping for a glass or two of wine, but the hostess doesn't drink (I didn't know that) and it was a dry bar. Oh. I ate a few bites of LC snacks, and I can't accurately log my totals with cals, but I was at 35 carbs when I left for the party, so likely no more than 50 tops for the day; and cals at around 1700.

Today is a very busy day in court. Our morning docket is ridiculous. There's no way we can get through it and still get a lunch break. I have transcripts to finish, business errands to run, and we're in bad need of groceries.

Big breath. I'll get it done somehow.

Gonna stay LC probably through Friday.

WORKOUTS TUESDAY:

45 MINS CARDIO (Turbo Jam w/weighted gloves)
