The onslaught of a relentlessly snowy winter and cold temps has taken its toll on my gumption and energy. It feels as though my mind/body thing is covered in cobwebs. I can totally appreciate the seasonal depression thing that afflicts so many people, as I feel that I've become somewhat a victim of it myself.

I find myself digging deeper, finding strength in my soul.

I'll be spending a week at my beloved Marco Island on March 26th, and I'm counting the days...only about a month away. So ready for this break from winter blahs.

The 21's approach from my bicep workout the other day left effective reminders the day following.

Yesterday's workouts:

30 mins cardio
30 mins UB (triceps, delts)

Rich,

I first read about the 21's approach in Oxygen Magazine (that issue is at home), but here's a link that describes the concept.

(And just to be clear, don't let the title of this article fool you -- I'm NOT trying to build "massive" biceps.

Lisa, I am glad it served you well too. (I learn so much from Oxygen!)

HB, I'm glad that we often draw strength and renewed perspectives from all of our buddies at LCF's. It's why I keep coming back for more.

Blessings to you today.

Feeling a little hungry right now. Going for a protein shake (in totals), but may have to add some nat pb to it. Hunger just sort of began out of nowhere right about dinnertime.

May have to update totals in the a.m.

Another LC day.

Can't work out again until Sunday because I had my hair straightened this afternoon and have to wait 72 hrs before I wash it -- i.e., no sweating.

TODAY'S TOTALS:

CALS.........1766
PROT..........183
CARBS.........36
FIBER...........11
FAT............105

WORKOUTS:

20 MINS AB JAM
20 MINS TRAINING (BACK)
20 MINS CARDIO ELLIPTICAL (SS)

Every time I see this image I begin to "covet."

Put me in that bathroom, in that tub, and it would take an army to get me outta there.

It's Saturday morning. The sun is shining, and temps will reach the mid 40s today...a perfect opportunity to RUN! --------And I can't. I can't get my hair sweaty, can't put it in a ponytail yet, and so I sit here instead, slaving over a transcript of a doctor's deposition, a doctor from India who never bothered to master the English language before he decided to practice medicine here.

The average Joe (or Joann), when they listen to someone crucifying the English language, can "listen around" the butchered speech patterns and gain both from context and other cues a cursory translation or understanding of what the person is saying. Getting the gist of it enables one to listen and to communicate. Not so with a court reporter. The gist isn't good enough. We are charged with the responsibility of preserving a verbatim record of every word and/or syllable uttered from a person's mouth, and so we're trained to listen and decipher rather than just "getting the gist" enough to communicate. It is no easy task at times. Trying to preserve the record of a person's testimony who has an incredibly heavy accent is just short of painful torture. It makes our brains hurt.

But it's my job. It's what I do. I'll get through it. Life can't always be fun and games.

Oh, but on a rare sunny Saturday?

Hi Twyla,

Yes, I've heard that the ESL dictations in my course (medical transcription) are loads of fun! I'll think of you when I get to them!

Hope you have a good weekend!

Hi Twila,

I hope you are able to relax some this weekend.

Hope your mom is feeling better.

I added a new T-Tapp move, Ladybugs, to my workout. I it! Makes my whole body hum. Can't wait to see what it does for my abs!

Well, I was able to snare some of that gorgeous sunshine today for a run, and later a power walk with my husband. The sun felt wonderful on my face. The effects of the sun and the temps, the blue sky, did wonders for my soul and my mindset. What a beautiful day it turned out to be.

It had been a while since I last ran, and I took it slower and built up with intervals. All in all, 60+ mins of cardio today and some ab work.

I've been lazy this weekend in not keeping up with my tracking. I've lost some focus. That irritates me. SNAP.OUT.OF.IT.TWYLA. Tomorrow I will begin tracking for the week and keeping a detailed record of my training. Off my butt and back at it. Just get it done.

This beautiful sunshine today was quite the tease, knowing full well that more snow and cold temps are on the way this week. But it gives promise to our long-awaited spring.

Okaaaaaay. Back to proofreading...

Some days are harder than others.
And those difficult days often seem to last, well, forever.
I can give in, surrender, grow complacent,
or I can forge ahead.
I choose to forge ahead.

Good Morning, Twyla.

I haven't stopped by your journal for awhile. Sorry to hear your mother is having some health issues. She's fortunate to have your support.

Reading your post about your foreign doctor dilemma reminds me why I no longer do medical transcription.

Have a good day.

Hi, Val. It's nice to see you again. Thanks for the well wishes on my mother. She's facing some hurdles ahead, but my two sisters and I are trying to make her as comfortable as we can on her road to health and healing.

As for the foreign doc thing? OH.MERCY. It's just been NO FUN AT ALL. Trust me, this guy's name is going on my "no thank you" list. Taking his deposition even once in one's career is enough for me. This was a videotaped deposition, and I'm friends with the videographer. He even gave me a copy of his DVD so I could listen more closely and read the doctor's lips, whatever....it helped SOME, but still. OMG. What a pain this has been.

I suppose medical transcription would have its share of headaches indeed, assuming there was a lot of dictation from foreign docs.

Far more focused today than over the weekend. I can't keep letting "life" get in my way, clouding my vision. I have a vision. A goal to strive for this summer. And I need to STAY focused and not let crap distract me.

I spent the evening planning meals for the week, preparing food, etc. Tomorrow will be a low-med day in carbs because I'll be working LB and I'm feeling a bit low on energy. PROT......195
CARBS......84
FIBER.......14
FAT..........69

Bunches of water!

WORKOUTS:

Hey Twyla, I thought I'd come in and say hi!! I read through some of your journal and the transcription thing makes me giggle .. for sure I would kill myself ... not with the ESL guy though -- I can understand that -- but in general, improper grammar just freaks me out ... in fact, even posts here sometimes, lol!

I thought it was very interesting to see that your food stats are very similiar to mine -- funny!!!! Only your protein was higher and carbs a tad lower. At this rate I lose like 1/4 pound a week ...

Have a great day Girl!

p.s. the post on main board about losing weight and not exercising made me think of you ... for the opposite reasons of course!!! so I came a-looking ..

Pauline, ITA on the grammar thing. I find myself wanting to correct everything I read -- grammar, punctuation, sentence structure!

One of the funniest things this doc kept repeating throughout was, instead of the word "saying" ...."that's what I am saying...." he would say, ".....that's what I telling, the patient did not, yadda, yadda." He used "telling" in place of "saying" all throughout. And he kept pronouncing "success" as "SUK-sis." It was almost like I had to "find his rhythm" so that I could stay on the same translation plane. LOL

I haven't seen that exercise post yet...which one is it? I didn't get on the boards yesterday, only in the wee morning hrs. Had a hugely busy day, right up until bedtime.

I'm interested to learn that our macros and such are similar and that at those numbers you're losing 1/4 a week. You have figured out a good plan for yourself, haven't you?

I know what you mean about your doctor! lol!! Funny thing is I speak a few languages and I am sure I annoy other people too, lol lol! but I find when I know the language of the country the speaker comes from, I can understand them very well because I know exactly what grammar mistakes they are making in English, as well as the consonant and vowel substitutions that come from their language. I spent a long time speaking to two Russians at a party a few weeks ago -- in English, in fact I did not even let them know I speak Russian -- and found afterward that everyone else found it very difficult to understand them and stressful to talk to them -- funny .. and a little sad, I guess.

If I did transcription like you do, I'd feel this burning need to get a hold of that doctor and explain the difference between "tell" and "say" in English ... I'd turn into an English grammar terrorist holding people hostage until they mastered certain grammatical turns of phrase - I'd be on the FBIs most wanted list ....

The thread I mentioned is here: Do you really lose fat on low carb WITHOUT exercise? with the usual silly stuff ... and I'll leave my description at that, lol! I think all the pertinent points I'd have made were made by various people, so I'm just staying out of there. I'll just say to you ... I didn't do all this work just to look ok and normal ... no, if I was going to work so hard I was going to look spectacular and Twyla came to mind ....

Ya THINK?????

(Thanks, Pauline)

BTW, I'm envious that you know other languages. I want to learn another language. I regret not having done that sooner in life. My son has taught me a few Japanese words, but I slaughter THEIR pronunciation -- he laughs at me.
