"E" -- In answer to your Q, I am cryptically posting my response here openly, in case it may be of benefit to others. (I'm glad you asked, btw)

Yes, with carb rotations, you do have to have low days. When someone is building LBM, it's critical to eat clean balanced nutrition, so I'm not shunning carbs in general. But that's what the rotations are for. IMO, one should start conservatively:

2-3 low days, and then a high day;
or 2-3 low days, then a med day, two more lows, and a high.

Those are some examples.

And what's "low" for one person may be too low for another. This all depends on the person's BMI, activitiy levelsl, LBM levels, etc. Again, one should start conservatively with their low days, see how they do, and tweak if necessary. Low carb is actually defined as anything under 100 carbs, technically.

So depending upon your husband's stats, etc., his training, that number likely will not mirror my own numbers.

Nutrition is very, very critical in burning fat and keeping the muscle. You say he's lost a lot of weight. All the more reason to convince him how imp lifting is -- AND -- fueling his lifting properly with clean nutrition, and for maximum fat loss, trying his hand at carb rotations.

This article may be of interest to him. It will provide motivation and insight to him as he learns to eat for his personal best level of fitness while training.

Rich, TBF and Lisa -- again -- thanks, you guys. I appreciate your comments.

Lisa, I'm likely to spend the rest of my life promoting weight training for people who want to lose fat and look their best -- both naked, and in clothes! There really is a huge difference in losing just "weight" and losing fat while keeping and/or building muscle. I see it every day. It's become painfully obvious to me just by looking around, seeing other people my age, seeing how they sweat and starve and lose weight, and yet they still look "out of shape."

You gotta eat smart and train smart. The end.

So true. I had a total thyroidectomy last October so I am hopeful things will start moving and shaking for me. Skinny fat is not where it's at.

Hey I should make that my signature line.

WHAT.A.DAY. 1:25 p.m. and just now getting my first break, not to mention lunch.

Reminds me of the line in Space Cowboys: "I'm so tired I can't chew."

Failed to mention in yesterday's post that I was able to win the war over TOM hurdles this month, save for the minor indiscretions with the ice cream a few days ago. The cravings were very minor this time, and I was able to outsmart them, manipulating my nutrition as I needed to, and TAH-DAH, TOM arrived "uneventfully" yesterday.

THRILLED (right!)

But indeed I AM thrilled that I was able to stay in control. At a time when I normally should feel puffy/bloated/craving, I'm feeling lean and mean and controlled. Wore my favorite jeans to the grocery store last night, jeans I would typically never THINK to wear at this time of the month, and they fit perfectly. Love this.

Hi Twyla

Looking good. Speaking of TOM I have a query about birth control. I officially stop the pill tomorrow. I have often thought that I could probably lose better if I was off the pill so made the decision to research non hormonal techniques of birth control. I want to evaluate how weightloss progresses without the pill (which I have been on for the past 16 years, just taking a break to have LG and right back on again.)
What are your thoughts on the pill and its effect on weightloss? Do you think it will affect the rate at which I might lose weight?

What are your thoughts on the pill and its effect on weightloss? Do you think it will affect the rate at which I might lose weight?

Lola.

The pill. Ah, yes. Another evil, IMO. At least it was for me. I tried the pill two or three times in the past, and I would always gain with it, and it made me irritable and bloated pretty much all the time. (NO THANKS, DON'T NEED EXTRA HELP WITH THOSE ISSUES)

So I decided it wasn't worth it and began using alternative forms of B.C. , which was the diaphragm, and although sex wasn't as "spontaneous," it worked for a while, but proved not to be 100% foolproof -- thus my third child, born eight years after my second.

It was then decided that a vasectomy was the way to go, since I certainly didn't need more than three children. So thankfully I don't have to worry about birth control anymore. Because I know that if I had to resort to the pill, my weight control issues would be far more of a struggle.

I think you're wise to go off the pill for a while. There are other forms of BC, and I'd research and try those to see how you do. Some people control their weight just fine with BC pills. I was not so fortunate, and you likely could be facing the same issues.

Best of luck with that.
