Thank you so much for being such a great friend and support to me on the boards this year. Here's to a wonderful New Year!
Dani, Thank you. Oh, and yeah, you can count on it, the harassing. Between me and Gavin, he'll have NO PEACE.

As for Skype, I sort of have you to thank for that. You got me started. It MADE my Christmas.

And your friendship and support is every bit as valuable to me as I've been to you to whatever degree.
Here's to another awesome year for us!

Kelley, Wii Fit. PERFECT. That's gonna be the next thing that Son #3 gets, maybe for his birthday (March). It makes "sitting around" less of an option. Who wants to sit and decay when you can be up moving and having fun at it, right?

Thanks re the pics.

GW, it's the thought that counts, they're there celebrating WITH you. Some party-goers have to give it up earlier , but at least they have a chance to celebrate with you at some point in the evening. That's nice that you're having your family with you.

As it turns out, my brother, instead of flying back to CA today, won't be flying back till Saturday (weather permitting). He has been helping my mom with handy work, and it has been more involved than he anticipated. I feel bad, because I've been invited and have already made solid plans to celebrate NYE with friends at their party, and now he's in town at NYE and I won't be with him. I'm hoping he'll go hang out with my sister (working on that plan now as we speak) so he won't be alone. Then maybe I can prepare a meal for him on NY Day before he leaves to fly back Saturday. We're expecting another storm, and who knows what that will mean. I'd love to have a chance to do the "snow thing" with him before he leaves, end out with warm and/or happy beverages and a pot of soup...what a great end to his visit that would be...I'll play it be ear.

Updating totals from yesterday:

CALS 1495
PROT.....157
CARBS.....34
FIBER........6
FAT.........76

WORKOUTS: 1 hour Super Callanetics

(No time for cardio -- took son and friends to see Avatar...fabulous movie!)

WEDNESDAY DEC 30

Third low day in CR. Will keep carbs under 100. Today will be Callanetics and cardio again.

I've found that Callanetics seems to HELP my pulled groin muscle. So I'm going to keep LB training to Callanetics only for the next week and see if that makes a difference. I rarely fail to FEEL the effects of Callanetics on the day following, so I know it's working the muscles sufficiently.

So that's the plan for today.

TBF, hang in there, stay focused. You know what they say: Tough times don't last, tough people do.

My GM is feeling a bit better today. The Callanetics really does help it. I'm not gonna sit on my *ss and do nothing while it heals. So if Callanetics helps, then great, and I can carry on.

Yesterday was a low day. Didn't track the entire day. Went out to dinner with friends, ate rather light --- Pan-seared sea bass with asparagus, couple bites of rice, couple bites of sour dough bread, glass of wine, probably less than a Tbs worth of Chocolate Decadence for dessert with coffee. Everything else eaten yesterday was typical low carb fare.

Workouts: 1 HOur Super Callanetics; 20 mins cardio

Today will be a med or high day. Itching to get in my workout, but it will have to wait till I get back home. Heading out the door for groceries & last minute shopping for NYE party food ingredients.

Dying for a run......it's been SOOOO LONG........but it's been crappy weather for running. I hate having to put on all those layers, then overheat and wanna take em all off long before my run is over, and, and, and .... whine, whine, whine.

To the store I go.

Screw it.

A little bit of cold rain didn't hurt me a bit -- by the end of my run, I actually felt purged.
How I missed it.

FRIDAY JAN 1 2010

Daisy, thanks, and HNY to you too.

I'm so pumped about the new year and my fitness agenda. I've never woken up on New Year's Day -- in as many years as I can remember -- feeling as controlled and focused as I do this morning. This is my hallmark of distinction, knowledge and power. In the past, I have woken up feeling very crappy and miserable from carb overload from the holidays -- Christmas, post-Christmas, New Year's Eve, or all of the above. Starting out feeling clean and lean is a whole new feeling for me. I'm just very psyched about this.

Thriving on challenges, I will embrace each new day of this year with a passion and commitment to living and feeling well and fit. These passions define who I am, and they have empowered me with confidence, grace and spirit. I will never stop reaching. Having embraced my challenges, "49" has become my new badge of honor.

Updating yesterday's summary...stayed low carb till the party, indulged in a few appetizers and wine, maybe too much wine.......and ultimately had 2-3 Dirt Balls. The guests at the party lost their minds over those dirt balls! They are truly decadent, and it's difficult to eat only one -- and oh-so-easy to make. I brought the dirt balls, and also some spinach/artichoke puff pastry pinwheels. It was great to see a lot of friends I hadn't seen in a long time, and I enjoyed celebrating with them.

No tracking yesterday, but did 50 mins of cardio: 35 mins running, followed by 15 mins elliptical.

So today will be a low carb day. Gonna watch the Gator Bowl this afternoon, and I've prepared LC game food for the most part.

Bring on the new year.

Whatever a person's mind dwells on
intensely and with firm resolve,
that is exactly what he becomes.

Here is how I made it. There were several different thoughts around it, but I thought this would be tasty.

1 lb ground beef
1 lb pork sausage (some people did 1.5 beef and .5 sausage)
8 oz cream cheese
1 15 oz can Rotel canned tomatoes. I used an Aldi's brand of spicy diced canned tomatoes.
Spice as desired

Brown the sausage and beef, add the cream cheese and tomatoes, simmer until hot and bubbly.

Seriously good and seriously filling. I'm including the nutrition info for the whole recipe as I entered it into my ****** as a custom food.

Thanks so much, Daisy. I appreciate you.

I definitely want to try this out this week. I will want to add spices, though. I'm all about spicing things up. And besides, cayenne pepper is supposed to be good for firing the metabolism, among other things.

Curious as to what spices you added.

I guess nutrition wise, adding it into ******, you sort of have to eyeball it, once you determine the total macros, then divide it by the number of servings. I think what I'll do is figure out what is a normal serving, weigh that one serving, and then use that weight as the template for a typical serving for a Custom Food for ******. If that makes sense.

I added some sea salt, pepper, tossed in some Tabasco, a little bit of red pepper flakes. I did add minced garlic to the meat while I was browning it. I think that's it? I'm a tosser. Whatever is looking good in the spice cupboard gets tossed in there. I have a feeling you're the same way!

That makes total sense. I usually enter the entire recipe because I never know how much I am going to eat. And sometimes when I go back to a custom food I've entered a while back I cannot remember what the serving size is! Grr. So I just state in the name of the custom item if it is the whole recipe, then I just do the division. Example: yesterday I entered that I ate about 1/8 of the recipe. Seemed accurate.

I add cheyenne to mine all the time along with red pepper flakes, garlic, fresh ground pepper and sometimes a spicy cheddar cheese, which really wicks it up.

Thanks, ChiefApache, for the extra comments/suggestions. I'm not sure what I did wrong, but mine didn't turn out exactly the way I was anticipating. I was expecting it to taste similar to a recipe I had tried (and lost) a few years back from the main boards, but it wasn't quite the same. I didn't have as much sausage on hand, so it was lacking in that flavor for one thing. Maybe that was it, I didn't follow the directions as written.

HB... you are far too kind, my friend. And I should add, the "tan" you see in the one pic has to be more of a special effects thing than true tan. I mostly use Loreal Sublime Bronze in the winter on my upper body, and it adds just enough color to look "healthy," not really tanned. I think that one pic was just a flattering exposure. But thank you for those compliments.

LISA????? Is that you, girl? You have been gone far tooooooo long. Welcome back Hope this New Year finds you well and brings good things for you.

And last -- but certainly not least -- TWYLA!!!! You big slacker, you! Get your act together. You're slacking. You can't out perform, out-exercise a crappy diet. You think just because it isn't on paper (tracking) it doesn't count, right?

Hi Twyla- Happy new year!- those pics are great - you look so energised and ready for life.

I've been reading your journal to keep up and been slowly getting on with my plan. I dropped in today for some advice. I'm currently on Atkins OWL and I've added mountain bike riding and callenetics as my new exercises for this year. However, I bought and read Bill Phillips Body for life over the holidays with the intention of adding some strength training to my programme.
He has a different eating plan that involves 6 small meals and it is a lot carbier than I would like to eat. Previously when I tried to eat 6 meals a day (Patrick Holford and a fitness expert) I ended up putting on a whole lot of weight as I was not able to control my eating and portion sizes. With Atkins I have been able to get my eating down to 3 real meals a day and no snacking and it works for me. My Q is: Do you think I could eat 3 real meals a day ala Atkins way and follow his training plan and not lose muscle mass?
I know that if you are going to follow a plan you should follow it to the T but I like his workout plan but not his eating plan. Is it worth a shot doing it my way or should I follow the plan (both eating and training)? Sorry for the long exposition.
