Sorry to stick my nose in here, but I would like to know how you came up with these numbers. Second question, what makes you think these numbers are correct.

No need to apologize...I, for one, welcome your input. I'm sure M would as well.

Not sure who your questions are directed to, me or her, but I think she is wanting to keep her calories as high as possible -- for now -- to ease into the higher carb amounts of her rotations, thinking it will help her to stay full and avoid the need to binge. She chose those calorie targets. (She can correct me if I'm wrong about that.)

Her bingeing, in my opinion, is likely more to do with a severely depleted state due to pronlonged periods of low and very low carbs and its effect on her insulin levels. I'm thinking that adjusting her carbs up a bit -- even if only in small amounts -- should help to avoid this repeat sabotage.

But I definitely welcome your input.

Truer words were never spoken
ALL carbs are not bad "per se".
Just like ALL fats are not "bad".
It's all a fine balance; tailored to individual preference...

btw, M, Twyla has greatly assisted ME on MY Journey!

Hey T, didya see that I've lost 10 lbs over the past 2 months??
I know you've been busy; but didn't want ya tah miss THAT!!

Course, once I look HOT(er) ~ I won't give a flip what the damn scale says...
For now, ALL my clothes are baggy, bra is too big, and one of my rings slipped off (I think I lost it )

I feel slimmer; but I need to be careful to NOT sabotage myself...
(I've a tendency to get cocky re my food when I've whooshed!)

XO,
HB

I keep whey protein at my office for a steady, always-ready-n-easy supply of protein, along with a shaker cup. We have a cold-water dispenser in the break room, and a shake is easy to make and no issues with shelf life.

My favorite whey protein is Dymatize Butter Cream Toffee; Champion Cookies & Cream; and used occasionally for "sweet" attacks, Lean Dessert Whey Cinnamon Roll.

Combing Cardio with Weight Training

Combining cardio AND weight lifting in an exercise regimen can produce far superior fat-burning results. Lifting weights will help boost your metabolism, helping you to burn fat more efficiently. The more lean muscle a person has, the higher our resting metabolic rate will be. Someone with a fast metabolism will burn more calories than someone with a slow metabolism doing the same amount of work. One pound of muscle can burn 30 to 50 calories a day. One pound of fat burns only 3 calories a day

Weight lifting also helps our body to process glucose more efficiently, and intense weight lifting increases the metabolism for hours after exercise.

Weight lifting strengthens our connective tissue and improves joint stability and increases our bone density;
helps us to sleep better, blow off steam easier, and is
one of the best ways to look and feel better about oneself -- increase our self-confidence.

Dani.

NOV 4 09

Med day in CR. Two VLC to follow tomorrow and Friday, then back to high on Saturday. Today went EXTREMELY well hunger wise. First "settled" day in quite a while. TOM hit hard this month, but it was likely a combo of the effects of TOM with other factors.

Just glad the storm has moved out to sea. Sunny skies are on the horizon. I'm taking back control of this ol' ship.

Was not at all hungry for dinner, but ate anyway, because I have to leave shortly and don't want to come home at 9:00 hungry and overeat at that hour. Carbs were on the low end of "medium," but I'm not gonna stuff myself if I'm not hungry. My dinner was 3.25 oz of chicken breast, shredded, on a LC flatbread, with a spinach salad and 1 Tbs of lite balsamic dressing, 1 Tbs shredded Parmesan.

Carbs today included: rice cake, blueberries, oatmeal protein pancakes with lite maple syrup, flatbread, fat-free cottage cheese blueberry blizzard, Fiber One; veggies.

Yesterday's cals, btw, were 1939 with 102 fat grams, 46 carbs, 198 prot. Hungry day.

Today, in contrast -- (med carb day):

CALS..........1418
PROT............187
CARBS...........111
FIBER..............30
FAT................33

WORKOUTS:

25 MINS UB TRAINING
25 MINS RUNNING (that blasted cold morning air! ouch!)

20 MINS s/s CARDIO, ELLIPTICAL (hopefully when I get home)

LB training for tomorrow morning.

CARB CYCLING (ROTATIONS)

REBOOTING YOUR METABOLISM INTO FAT-LOSS MODE

Quote:
"Carb cycling is all about restoring your fat-burning hormone levels. Leptin is a hormone that keeps your metabolic rate up and hunger down.....Going very low on carbs forces the body to turn to body fat for fuel. However, staying on a low-carb diet for too long can cause your leptin levels to drop. When it falls, so too does your metabolism, and your hunger increases......By alternating periods of low carbs with higher carb intake, you can prevent drops in leptin levels, which keeps your metabolism steady and prevents your hunger from getting out of control.....High-carb days also bring muscle benefits because carbs stimulate insulin release, which refills the glycogen stores in muscles to promote growth...."

"There's actually a psychological impact to eating this way. Unlike traditional low-carb diets, which encourage low-carb intake as a lifestyle, carb cycling doesn't restrict you from what your body needs for optimal function. All carbohydrates are broken down into glucose, which is the brain's fuel source. But just because carbs are the easiest way for the body to get glucose doesn't mean that they're the only way. In fact, if you could turn off your brain's insistent begging for carbs, you could subsists quite nicely without them and you lose weight. This is the beauty of carb cycling.....Knowing that you'll be able to eat carbs again in a few days makes getting through the low carb days much more manageable....:"

YES YES YES!!!!! this makes perfect sense

ya know, I am realizing that I "carb-cycle" and "calorie zig-zag" ~
I just don't PLAN IT per se; it just sorta happens ... naturally

and I think that's OK? I mean, it's working for me (so far!)
I guess maybe that's what people did before the Industrial Revolution made everything so "easy" and "accessible"...

Cave Peeps never knew WHAT they were gonna get or WHEN
So they ate whatever they came across; whenever it came!

I'm not quite like THAT.
But I def swing btwn low/high always with an eye on calorie intake.

Thanks for posting this T! it got me thinkin' (as usual!)

Most willing to spread the word. It's Oxygen's article, and I'm just sharing it here because I TOTALLY ENDORSE carb rotations, obviously -- credit to Btinc -- and I felt it worth mentioning in my journal.

Hope others who read it will benefit as well.

I'm hoping the carb cycling does something for my leptin level...my doctor actually tested mine at the beginning of August. I had gained a fair amount of weight rather rapidly and we were curious about my leptin level because I am someone who really struggles with satiety...well, my leptin level was below normal. Because of my rapid weight gain, she thought the level would have been higher.

Thanks for posting this, Twyla.

Friday afternoon, and here I sit, waiting for a call from the SuddenLink man to show up here and do his magic on my internet service. I can think of a myriad of ways I'd rather be spending a Friday afternoon.

No internet service for the last four mornings in a row, but it's fine in the evenings, albeit sluggish. Go figure.

I'm at a loss for words.

So I sit...and wait....and wait...and wait.
