I'd say the men at my house would offer a hearty AMEN to that suggestion.

Surarch, THANK YOU!....and sorry, I haven't posted in the TJ challenge, you're right, but I am still committed to the TJ series, mostly Cardio Party (w/weighted gloves) and AbJam.

Glad you've taken up Callanetics too...the flexibility and strengthening of it will help with your stamina and such with TJ actually.

Feel free to stop here as much as you want and ask all the Q's you want. Sometimes when my life gets hectic, I tend to post in my journal and don't wander around the boards much. Let me know if I can help ya out. You can always find me here.

WED MAY 6

Busy day at work. But it's all good. Makes the day go by faster.

Stuck to low carbs all day, and plan to do this through the end of the week, or for as long as I need in order to reach and KEEP appetite suppression. I'm guessing I won't have as much energy for my runs or for Turbo Jam, the two most taxing workouts for me when I don't eat many carbs. But it will work out.

I even thought today that if this hormonal crap keeps up, I should probably plan on two weeks out of the month staying pretty much low carb, maybe with a medium day or two thrown in if needed, and let my energy levels dictate my workouts. Then the other two weeks, give it all I've got and adjust my rotations for extra energy and to prime my metab for most efficient fat burning.

We'll see.

Ended up having a small steak salad for dinner, instead of eggs.

Eggs. Wasn't exactly what I was aching for.

So ended up:

1820 cals
169 protein
50 carbs
13 fiber
114 fat

WORKOUTS:

40 mins of Turbo Jam w/weighted gloves
3 sets of 20 pushups

Hey T! Hope you are continuing your blissful feeling from Sade, Candle light and Callan!

Here is my take on 3 Day Flush:
Yeah! I finished the fruit flush and I will tell you the second night on it my body did get rid of an awful lot of 'stuff' Sorry for TMI, but I know it had to be gunk in my bowels because just fruit and veggies would not amount to everything that came out of me

I so enjoyed my egg burrito this morning! Scramble egg, salsa, touch of cheese in WW tortilla and OMG Coffee! I'm a happy camper this morning

Kelley, sounds like the "flush" did its job.

By the way, I adore breakfast burritos! Yuummmmm. Back when I was sticking to strictly LC, I had one every morning. Probably my favorite meal of the day!

Yes, the Callanetics worked out beautifully this morning.

THURS MAY 7

Today began like a normal day, with my plan to start the day with a LB weight routine, followed by some s/s cardio. I had a cup of coffee, when suddenly the power went out...and just as I was heading to LCF! No internet w/o power.

NO MORE COFFEE WITHOUT POWER.

So I thought: Great. Now what? How in the world am I supposed to huff and puff around in candlelight doing walking lunges and such? Not a good idea. I thought about doing cardio, but that would have meant a run, and I wasn't interested in running until it gets sort of light outside. Then I figured: Perfect scenario for Callanetics. I fired up some candles, started my Callanetics "playlist" on my laptop via battery (Sade, Chris Botte, Marc Antoine, Corrine Bailey Rae, Grover Washington, etc.), and I was set! It was perfect and felt wonderful!

Then I began to tackle getting ready for work in the dark. I showered, put in contacts and put on makeup by candlelight and a flashlight of sorts. Challenging. I chose black clothes because I couldn't see very well in my closet and I figured black would match black, right? Luckily my hair had been washed yesterday and was still cooperating, so I wore it straight/natural. I ate two boiled eggs with water for breakfast..., packed a cooler bag with my lunch, and raced like a mad woman to the office so I could guzzle my much-needed morning Joe.

I'm in far more control hunger wise today from yesterday's dive to LC. Yesterday was still a struggle. Today was better. I feel far less bloated today too. Gonna keep this up as long as I can till TOM passes.

So far today (haven't had dinner) 1288 cals, 26 carbs, 6 fiber.

WORKOUTS:

1 Hour SuperCallanetics
15 mins delts (after work)
20 mins LB weights (abbreviated, after work)

I'll post food totals before going to bed tonight.

Okay. All done with dinner. It added up to more than I had planned on eating, calorie wise. Adds up fast, that food! I had made turkey tacos for dinner, so I just ate the meat with some asparagus and a bit of swiss cheese, and up went the calories. But I was hungry all of a sudden.

Gonna keep trying. Hoping to get my cals down to about 1500 per day for 3 consecutive days. That is NO EASY FEAT with hormones flyin' high!

TOTALS:

1731 CALS

192 PROT...45%
36 CARBS.....8%
10 FIBER
96 FAT.......49%

Although I've never been totally comfortable with posting pics of myself, this is MY journal afterall, and it's to be a documented journey, a start to finish, evidenced through thoughts, actions, musings, photos, goals, and various types of discipline, both through nutrition and training. It remains a journey. I hope that by this summer -- actually, by mid June, I can post another picture that shows more progress. But here goes, taken from late fall until about a week or so ago. The last pic is not at my lowest "scale" weight, but it shows a bit more leaning out. Slow process for me. But it's a journey. It's my life. The quest to be my best.

Thank you, Wendy. What you say "start," that depends. I have lifted on and off for years, but didn't get serious with heavier lifting until spring of 2008. I was using 10-12 DB's at that time, moving up rather quickly to 15 and 20's. I need to move up again, but haven't taken the time to purchase new DB's. I have a nice "list" that I'll make known to my family for June birthday ideas, I think.

Thank you, Rich.

Wendy, I was using 5 lb weights in 2006, when at that time all I was doing was Callanetics, s/s cardio 3-4 x a week, and UB "light" weights. I toned nicely. Over time, I just needed more challenge, as you will also.

It WILL happen, girl!

I love what you said in the other post....."but I'll keep pushing play."

FRI MAY 8

Quiet Friday evening. Just me and youngest son. He has a friend over to spend the night, and they're madly battling it out with Xbox Live.

I've been contemplating my next move in carb rotations, and playing around with menus, plugging into ******, etc. It's POURING the rain, lightening and thunder on and off, and it's great sitting on the back porch listening to the calming that a storm can have on us at times.

I fought the urge to do something physical this evening. I'm trying to cut back a bit on workouts with my lower carb attempts the past few days. And it's Friday, besides. It's a great evening to listen/enjoy the rain and reflect.

Today's hunger was a bit less than yesterday. I think I've done far better today controlling calories. Carbs about at my target of around 50.

I may stay with LC one more day, and allow Mother's Day to be my medium day in rotations. Then back to LC for 2-3 more days, then a high day. I think.

My aim is to get my hunger under control, maintain a calorie deficit, put in just enough workout time to be meaningful, and to lower my carbs in my rotations overall -- all in an effort to "stir it up." Time's a wastin' and I have goals to achieve by mid June. My middle son graduates on June 3. That's also a date to shoot for.

TOTALS

1492 CALS

PROT.....163 GR....43%
CARBS....52 GR.....13%
FIBER.....14 GR
FAT.........74 GR.....44%

WORKOUTS:

37 mins cardio (HHA, w/repeat of one segment)

(Thank you)

Sounds like your training plate is rather full these days. Hold on, Nelly! Stick with Callanetics for at least 8 wks. Give it all you've got on form. Do what you can do, don't race through it, enage fully and let it work its magic on you. At some point you can add other LB challenges, if for no other reason than to promote muscle confusion.

As for the # of cals, check this site out:

Calories Burned, BMI, BMR & RMR Calculator | CaloriesPerHour.com

It can give you a lot of insight with its built in calculators.

For losing weight, a good starting place is 10 x BW for calories. Some people can lose at even higher rates, 12 or 14, say. Depends on many factors, activity levels, age, body type, metabolism.

Take a look at that site and see what you think.

You're doing really well to put in all of that time with training, but don't forget: Clean nutrition is 90% of the battle.

Have a great weekend.

Rich, I second that idea on the coffee pot. My addiction to coffee is shameless. I love coffee! HEAR ME ROAR!

Adding this revelation from this morning:

I've always known that Coconut Oil had wonderful health benefits, weight loss enhancement included.

But this morning when I woke up, I had a cup of coffee (surprise) and was sitting there reading. Sitting. Not moving. Chilled out, K?

Then about 45 mins later I had my beloved fat-free cottage cheese, 1 T PP, w/blueberries and flax and 1 Tbs of Coconut Oil stirred in. A bit more coffee. Within ten minutes, I have begun to slightly perspire. Well, maybe more than slightly even. Had to find a scrunchy for my hair to pull it up off my neck while I'm reading.

Proof that CO has a thermogenic effect on our metabolism. It wasn't the coffee. It was the CO. Love that.

Quote:
Coconut oil is a medium-chain triglyceride (MCT) while most other fats, such as vegetable oils and animal fat, are long-chain triglycerides (LCTs). "The length of the molecule determines how the fat is metabolized," says Bruce Fife, author of Eat Fat Look Think. MCTs are rapidly broken down, and the body burns them much like carbohydrates for energy. LCTs, however, are deposited in fat cells. "With MCTs, you're eating fat calories, but you're eating fewer effective calories because metabolism rises, and you end up burning the calories, not storing them as fat. You can eat much more coconut oil than other fats before your body will convert it into fat."

Fife says that the types of oils present in coconut oil stimulate metabolism.
