TBF,

Thanks, and the mirror is one of my favorite things too. I've had it about nine years, and I'll never part with it. It matches the buffet in the dining room. The buffet had been in bad shape (passed down from my husband's grandmother), was dark wood, damaged finish, so I painted it cream and then gave it a light warm, weathered crackled glaze and it's now another one of my favorite pieces. So the mirror works wonderfully with it.

As for the video....oh mercy...I stumbled on some of the most beautiful music videos last night. I bookmarked that site...heading back for more. This time of year I love listening to instrumental. George Winston is one of my favorites, and his "Thanksgiving" is absolutely lovely. Google it if you're interested. I think it's in my journal as well from about this time last year.

And hey...I received my "Hot Maple Toddy" Candleberry candle yesterday which I ordered based on your review...dear heavens, are you sure they're not edible??? It is DIVINE and I can't wait to light it!

Yep, you may have a point. Spartacus has the body, no doubt about it.

As for the HMT candle? IS THAT NOT DIVINE? It's on the top of my list of yummy candles. Just bought another one last night, ironically. Where I buy them locally, less than a mile from my house, she tells me that is in their top three best sellers of all their candles, and they sell three different brands, LOTS of scents. HMT is da bomb.

When I do Callanetics, I like having a candle lit, relaxing music, and lights out or dimmed. Is that weird?

Speaking of Callanetics, I had a varied workout this morning, and when I was finished, my heartbeat was elevated and I was sweating like a monkey. Began with elliptical cardio warmup for 10, then barbell superset squats in my garage, back inside for 20 mins of leg work Callanetics, back out to the garage for another superset of squats, and finished with 18 mins of elliptical cardio. WHAT.A.CIRCUIT. Wow. Felt great.

Bunco tonight at my house. I have prepared all legal appetizers (I getta call the shots when it's at MY house, none of this high-carb-junk-cake-cookies-grease-laden killer crap.) I am providing Buffalo Chicken Dip, Baked Parmesan Dip, a platter of fresh veggies, Pretzel Crisps, Baked Tuscan Crackers, wine, Ultras, diet soft drinks, water. Three other people will be bringing finger food too.

Off to court...busy day ahead.

TBF, your little cutie in your avatar? I wanna hug her.

Updating...

Bunco a huge success. Great fun, food, frivolty!

Today was a blur....TOTALLY SLAMMED/BUSY.

Morning workout: Running intervals at 5:45 am ... below 30 degress...burrr. My lungs are NOT used to this yet, Houston.

No time for the gym this week yet....argh!

Tomorrow I'll go...I have the day off. I'll plan to go mid morning.

Making another pan of Protein No Bakes tonight.

TBF, Glad to help out. That analogy is a good one, and ironically I had JUST shared that analogy (off the top of my head, not verbatim) to a colleage on Tuesday of this week, who had voiced to me a little frustration over the seemingly slow progress that she was having with her fat loss. Now that I helped YOU find it, I can print it and give it to her for a daily reminder.

I slept in today.

I had NINE hours of sleep last night.

I've just finished my first mini meal of the day. This is one of my favorite meals, so simple, yet so delicious. Just hits my happy button.

1.5 oz blueberries
3.5 oz fat free cottage cheese
1 Tbs flax
1 Tbs Gaspari Delicious Vanilla Whey
.30 oz chopped walnuts

With coffee...OF COURSE

I could eat this little yummy meal all day every day and be perfectly happy.

Headed to the gym around 10:00 ish today. I want to spend time organizing my master closet this morning. We had new carpet laid, and everything -- EVERY SINGLE ITEM -- was boxed and removed from the bedroom and closets, so now I can't find anything. Getting ready for work yesterday was very frustrating, digging through unpacked boxes. Just no time to deal with it till now.

So: Gym, closets, a little housecleaning, working on transcripts, getting son to football practice, then getting together this evening with a group of friends to begin practicing Carol of the Bells. There are four of us, one bass (guy), and we're singing it a cappella on December 18th. It's in my top three favorite of all time Christmas carols. I'm looking forward to this. It's gonna take some focus and hard work, but we WILL get it done.

So glad to have a day to sleep in (how my body needs it) a little and play some catch-up. I have neglected my body's needs a little lately. So many other demands and it's difficult finding balance with life's demands sometimes. There are so many little nuances that have a huge effect on our bodies' response to what we do or don't do for it. I need to rethink some of this and get back to a better focus. I'll be a happier person for it.

Waking up this morning, the sun peeking through the wood blinds, casting an amber glow on the walls. It made me smile inside and out. I laid there for a few minutes enjoying the moment, the calm, the promise of a new day. What a nice way to wake up.

Today will be a good day.

Lisa, why are you terrified (strong word) of DOMS? Did you have a bad experience with DOMS?

You shouldn't fear the soreness. It's usu only temporary and your muscles will adapt to the stimuli and you'll recover easier with each workout. Initially, yes, they'll be sore. You'll just want to start easy, a little light, for the first week or so and then gradually add intensity.

And unless you have issues with meds, there's always Aleve or Ibuprofen that will help. Extra fish oil supps. And adding in light cardio at the END of your lifting will help to purge the buildup of lactic acid and help relieve short-term soreness. And last but not least, STRETCHING following EVERY lifting session helps with soreness, improves flexibility and will help to improve strength gains in the long run.

I'll be glad to help and encourage you all that I can. Bottom line: Just do it. You'll be so glad you did.

Baby steps. Like anything else.

So? Talk to me.

I have to say that I love the soreness after a workout especially in my legs because I know that I have worked those muscles that haven't been getting much exercise. But you are right, the soreness isn't as intense after you have been doing it for a while and it also doesn't last as long. The first time I used the seated leg press instead of the cable leg press I pushed myself and my legs were sore for many days. Then the next time I used it I pushed myself with heavier weights but lower reps and my legs were not as sore. I followed it up the next time with the heavier weights and pushed myself again to do more reps. I ended up sore but felt good.

All good points, Dawn. I'm glad you commented on this issue.

DOMS aren't as bad as they sound, bottom line. Initially, if someone hasn't been involved in any sort of weight lifting for a long time (or ever), yes, you'll have some DOOSIE DOMS. But it's not as if you won't live through it.

And I'm like you, Dawn, I'm one of those sickos who like feeling DOMS anyway.

There are varying levels of soreness, and it's dependent on so many variables. For example, I STILL get muscle soreness following a Callanetics workout (no weights involved), and I've been doing Callanetics for years. Again, it's the intensity that makes the difference.

Muscle soreness certainly should not be a deterrent in becoming committed to a regular weight lifting program. As they say...."this too shall pass."

I remember... way, way back when.... trying out for cheerleading and doing splits and toe jumps - over and over and over for about 2 weeks before tryouts... I never felt so sore... thankfully a young body that healed - but that was completely overkill and have never experienced those kind of aches (my focus on tryouts was insane - did make the team, thou) (btw - will strongly encourage dd to 'do the sport' just sayin)... doms now - they're kinda' like a hello from an old friend...both of us happy to be around! (just my 2 cents )

Happy weekend!

Kim, the former cheerleader, huh?

"Hello from an old friend." I like that analogy. And a happy weekend to you, girl.

Speaking of muscle recovery, I had found these articles in Oxygen, which mention a couple of foods that are good choices for helping with muscle recovery. Both are part of my daily nutrition.

Quote:

Green Tea
Sip up to burn more calories, lose belly fat and aid muscle repair. Studies have shown that drinking at least three cups a day can help burn 80 more calories, thanks to antioxidants, EGCG, which induces the breakdown of fat stored in fat cells. A 2008 study published in the Journal of Nutrition found that green tea, along with exercise, enhances fat loss in the abdominal area. What’s more, it can even blunt systemic inflammation, which can help speed post workout recovery.

Blueberries

Great for post-workout recovery and your waistline. Blueberries are among the most powerful antioxidants and are best able to fight free radicals -- antioxidants help protect everything from muscle tissue to the tiny capillaries that feed it.....Interesting: A study published in the journal Food Chemistry found that rats fed blueberry extract ate less food than those that weren’t.
