Meek, it's funny that you would mention Callanetics, because just yesterday, I had been scheduled for a makeup consultation with a professional makeup artist for Estee Lauder, and she travels around the Eastern US on behalf of E.L. and does her magic, etc. So when I get there to my appt., one of the first things she said to me was: "You must compete in bodybuilding," and went on to tell me how she herself lives in the gym, loves to train, likes to run, and the conversation was all about fitness for the first 3-4 mins. THEN SHE SAYS: "I try to do some sort of flexibility and stretching workout once or twice a week," and we both acknowledged how imp it is to make that a part of a workout routine, and I said, "Yes, I do Callanetics for this, not sure if you've heard of that...?"

Her eyes grew wide and she exclaimed, "OMG, Callanetics! I love Callanetics. Not many people know about Callanetics! That's amazing!" And then the conversation turned to all-about-Callanetics. She had taken classes before, and was in the process of trying to find a class where she lives, with no success.

That's when I suggested she purchase one of the DVD's from Amazon, and she wrote down the name, etc., and thanked me for the info, etc.

CALLANETICS. Yes, go to Amazon and I would recommend either Callanetics Evolution or 10 Years Younger. Evolution is more modern, and comprehensive instructionally, and Sandra, the instructor, who frequents LCF on the Exercise Board (aren't WE lucky!) can help you with questions, etc.

Updating Wed Jun 30

Another very busy day. I'm beginning to feel the effects of life, and it's obvious that I will need to get some extra sleep and relaxation/rest time this weekened (starting this afternoon!).

I was ravenous yesterday from late afternoon forward, so I listened to my body's protests and fed it. My macros aren't stellar, but it is what it is. Today I'll dial it back to lower carbs and cals and carve out some time for extra rest and recovery time. I'm feeling very encouraged with my body comp progress in the last 5 weeks or so, but my body is beginning to protest, so the extra cals were in order and I will add in some rest and give my body what it needs.

TOTALS WEDNESDAY:

CALS..........2035
PROT...........203
CARBS...........96
FIBER............13
FAT..............94

22 MINS CARDIO A.M.
CALLANETICS A.M.

P.M.

Yes, and I'm finding myself thinking when I'm there:

"Now if only Ileen were here, SHE could show me a thing or two...."

As I was leaving last night, I was taking off my gloves and packing up, placed my bag down on this.......uh, I don't know WTH it was, but it was a huge contraption of sorts. Gavin wasn't there to ask, and I was too intimidated to ask the guy at the desk.

Callanetics

I'm so glad you posted about the Callanetics DVDs. I have this VHS tape of Callanetics that I loved, it was from the late 80's or early 90's. I'm going to get a new DVD for me, but also will encourage my husband to use it since he was in a car accident this past Feb and can't do major impact movements. This will be perfect! You're an inspiration

Trista, that WILL be a nice fit for him. Callanetics' therapeutic integrity is only ONE valid reason to make it a part of one's exercise routine. And it still amazes me that after all this time that I've done Callanetics, I ALWAYS experience muscle soreness the day after a Callanetics workout. It just flat works deep and nails it, KWIM?

Speedy healing/recovery to your husband.

Updating for Thurs Jul 1:

Thursday was an all cardio day. Kept my carbs rather low to offset Wednesday's higher numbers.

Enjoyed some rest/leisure time in the afternoon, having taken the afternoon off, and got some errands done as well. My youngest son had a friend over to spend the night, and I cooked spaghetti for them for dinner, his favorite.

I've decided to start preparing chicken for my meals each week in this easy, tried-n-true way for yummy tenderness, flavor and ease:

I take one pkg boneless skinless chicken breasts (can be frozen) and place them in sauce pan with water, 3-4 cloves chopped garlic, salt, pepper, and a shake of rosemary. Boiling gently for 45 mines till AMAZINGLY tender. Let cool. Shred the chicken and keep in a sealed container in frig. Easy, very tender, yummy, clean, lowfat protein.

DEEEEE-LICIOUS.

I have the day off today. Slept in for added Zzzzzzs. Headed to the gym for LOWER BODY day........

.... can't wait. Taking youngest son and his buddy to the pool for the day after my workout.

TOTALS THURSDAY:

CALS..........1520
PROT...........180
CARBS...........42
FIBER.............7
FAT..............48

30 MINS CARDIO POWER WALK A.M.
15 MINS CARDIO ELLIPTICAL AFTERNOON

WOW. What a beautiful day to spend at the pool. Not a cloud to be seen, bright blue skies, light breeze, tons of sun. PERFECT.

My son had lots of fun with his buddy, and I mostly sat by poolside and talked, read, made friends, soaked up the rays.

Very nice day.

Kick butt LB workout at the gym this morning. I enjoyed working out at that time of day.

Decided to yank my carbs up a bit today, more of a med/high day. I was due one. Discovered some yummy berry-flavored mini rice cakes at the grocery store, and I dipped them in fat-free Cool Whip and ate that for a dessert-treat -- higher carbs, fat free. With Cafe Verona coffee to top it off. Hit my sweet spot.

I have spent the day completely alone. By myself. Excepting the time I spent at the gym this morning.

I was hungry for time alone. I needed to be quiet. To be left alone. To think. To remember. I gave myself permission to feel the emptiness. To hurt. To remember.

It's been a good day, at times melancholy, at times relaxing and pleasant. Some of the day was spent sifting through old photos, cards, letters, notes.

I have been running from the pain and the emptiness instead of facing it head on and dealing with it. It's time to let it go and feel. Running from the pain will not solve anything. It only masks it temporarily.

I don't know why I need to be alone sometimes, but I do. It's almost an urgency.

But it's all part of the healing. "The nights grow long, but dreams live on."

Dreams live on. We live on. Life goes on.

I indulged today, giving into the pain of my emotions, the need for comfort, and icecream and a couple chocolate chips cookies -- warm ones, of course -- seemed to hit my "teddy bear" button. It's okay. It's not as if it's gonna do me any real harm.

No tracking to post.

Workouts: 10 mins cardio warmup; 35 mins delts/back/triceps/biceps Giant Set Circuit; 12 mins cardio s/s post-training.

20 mins s/s cardio early evening

Kim, thank you, girlfriend.

Updating yesterday, I kept it to VLC, given my indiscretions on Saturday. Late Saturday night, I ate....uh....:blush:two bowls of Special K Cereal w/almonds, and two spoonfuls of s/f chocolate fudge topping (off the spoon). Still babying my broken heart. A lot of good that will do: mend a broken heart while inflating thigh circumference.

All the sugar and such jacked me up, couldn't sleep Saturday night, and ended up watching an old movie (tear jerker, like I needed THAT!), and then woke up feeling, well, not so good. When I eat off plan, I pay for it the next morning in how I feel.

So I had coffee, then got in 32 mins of cardio, and spent the rest of the day cleaning and organizing like a mad woman. I needed to feel a sense of accomplishment. Got in an extra 10 mins of cardio later in the day when I finished cleaning.

The next 2-3 days will be low to VLC. Today is Callanetics, cardio and abs.

After a good cry last night, maybe I can better deal with the emptiness of my heart. Oddly, there's semblance in the whole purge thing: If we are nauseous and weak, it always feels better once we just go ahead and throw up, get it over with. I think letting myself have a good cry last night purged my pent-up pain. The human body's ability to self-regulate is remarkable indeed.

Skyping with Zach at 9:00 this morning...
Having my brother over for a cookout (maybe one of my sisters too) this afternoon.

SUNDAY TOTALS:

CALS..........1560
PROT...........174
CARBS...........25
FIBER.............7
FAT...............70

Yes, Dani, you are SOOO right. I CAN DO IT.

I need to visit with you (and others). Don't have time at the moment, just logged on briefly to download another Johannes Linstead song from his "Mediterranea" CD (I'm making "entertaining" tunes for tonight), and popped over to LCF. Wanted some tunes to listen to while I cook; I'm in the middle of preparing food for the cookout later.

Gonna try the new peach Ultras that I discovered at the store. Haven't had one of these yet.

I will catch up later.

Quick summary for Monday, July 5.

Kept my carbs low to non-existent all day, until dinner when we grilled out. I had made blackberry crisp for dessert, using fresh blackberries that my husband had gathered from his mother's farm. I had that with lowfat/low sugar vanilla icecream for dessert.

The peach Ultras were great. I'll be buying them again. Nice for summer.

OH.MERCY.THIS.HOT.WEATHER. This is the part of summer that makes me wanna crawl into a cool, dark cave till fall. Early morning is tolerable, scratch mid to late day, then about 9:00 p.m. it starts to cool off enough to be pleasant again.

Ignored the alarm this morning. My body was SCREAMING for more rest. And rest I did. May get in some cardio this evening late.

TOTALS MONDAY:

(Tracked food up until dinner)

38 mins cardio ellipticall, 10 of that HIIT intervals
45 mins Super Callanetics
