I hope that your time with your mom was special. You seem so busy with work, baseball games, your mom is sick, yet you still choose to make the time for exercise. Still stay on target.

Anyone who makes excuses for why they don't have time to Workout, should read your journal.

I am glad that you journal. It shows all of us that most of the excuses we use not to exercise are BS. Keep journaling.

Thank you, Rich. My time with Mom Friday night and through Saturday noon was beautiful.

And thank you for sharing this with me. It is very uplifting to me. A feel good message. Maybe one of the nicest I've ever gotten from you.

Hope you've had a good weekend.

Hey, TBF.

I know I'm behind in posting. I'll do a brief summary to catch up, then I plan on taking a Sunday afternoon nap.

Friday was a low carb day. I had around 50 carbs, just under 1800 cals. I did all cardio on Friday. 35 mins power walking outside Friday morning, and ended that out with 10 mins of hard cardio intervals on the elliptical.

Saturday was a med-high day. My carbs were clean, complex up until about 4:00. Mostly just protein pancakes and sourdough muffin, Fiber One bar for breakfast. For the most part. From 4:00 forward, mostly green veggies. I ate a HUGE plate of salad and Asian blend green veggies, with a little grilled chicken for dinner, and wine. My big splurge of the day was Coffee Lovers icecream from Cold Stone. Oh.My.Heavens.

Saturday when I got home from Mom's, I ate my pancakes, then did a quick 15 mins s/s cardio before jumping in the shower and heading to Son #'s BB game. Back home, changed, finished up with the afternoon workout, which was LB, back and biceps, 1 hr and 10 mins. Felt great!

Today will be 30 mins of some form of cardio ----- LATER.

I want a nap...

MONDAY MORNING MAY 2

Well, I got in my nap. WHAT a nap. Slept for over two hours. When I woke up, I was still sleepy, could have slept longer, but I forced myself to get with it. I drank coffee. That helped. Shopped for a few groceries for dinner.

Ended up grilling out for dinner, steaks, with a yummy salad. We ate on the porch, while it rained, soft breeze, great relaxing, peaceful atmosphere. Calming. I decided that the day had been so peaceful, calming, relaxing, rejuvenating with my nap, I was gonna honor that and forego the cardio. I felt my body telling me to rest -- rest completely -- to respect that time for renewal. And I'm glad I did.

Feel great this morning. Second cup of coffee already.

DOMS in lats and inner/outer thighs/glutes began yesterday afternoon, from Saturday's training. Still lingering.

Rain in the forecast again today.

Hi Twyla,

I'm so happy your mom is home and you enjoyed your time together. I agree with Rich you are truly an inspiration.

You are so intune to what your body and mind need. Want that, working towards that.

MON MAY 3

Day's end wrap up. Looks like this is gonna be a long, busy trial week for me.

Big breath, Twyla. All the more reason to get plenty of sleep, eat on plan, and make time for exercise.

Leaving the office late this afternoon, I was pleased to find that the humidity had lifted. So pleasant out. Waded my way through stop/go traffic on my commute home, and then after a quick snack and breather, got my HIIT out of the way.

Today was a LC day in rotations; repeat for tomorrow. Wednesday I'll do LB again, so it will be higher in carbs.

I'm gonna try to be in bed early tonight. Cardio & abs and triceps tomorrow.

TOTAL:

CALS................1737
PROT.................179
CARBS..................60
FIBER...................17
FAT......................91

45 MIN SUPER CALLANETICS
20 MINS HIIT

TUES MAY 4

Slept seven hours last night. Crashed just before 10. Felt great. Very busy week ahead.

Looking forward to morning workout and the energy it brings.

Just ordered a new blender for my protein shakes. It's gotten great reviews (via LCF).

Ready for the sanctuary of the morning stillness and sounds of spring as I head outdoors.

I have a Black & Decker blender at home but haven't used it in quite a while. I really enjoy drinking shakes in the morning but found they really aren't thick enough to be filling. Need to tweak them a bit.

Back to Basics Personal. Found the ref in the recipe room of MM board.

We'll see...I'll letcha know.

Just got out of the courtroom. Wouldn't mind having a cold, thick protein shake about now.

Gonna have to settle for coffee to wake up for my commute home.

Bron, throw an egg in it, and maybe a Tbs of nat PB. Lots of "wheys" to tweak a shake.

Correcting Tuesday’s post on workouts, I worked DELTS for 15 mins, not BICEPS. Don’t know where “biceps” came from; brain dysfunction when I wrote that I suppose.

In bed by 10 last night. Rested.

Today is LB and triceps, some chest work. Seeing a little more definition in upper body. My clothes are fitting a bit looser, but the scale is being a little stubborn lately. I’m thinking some of it may have to do with hormones and water retention. Having issues with ongoing TOM. Isn’t life grand.

The weather this week has been great, and so I’ll probably spend 15 mins or so at the tailend of my workout this morning outdoors. If I walk up to the golf course in the mornings, I can see the sun rising just over the putting green. It’s beautiful. Some morning I may just take a blanket and a thermos of coffee over there and just sit and enjoy the beauty and stillness of morning. No one around. Not a sound. Just me, my coffee, and nature. Yeah. Might just do that.

Another busy day ahead. Looking forward to visiting with a good friend this weekend who’s coming in from out of state. Haven’t seen her in a while. Give us a chance to catch up on life.

I’ll spend Saturday with Mom for Mother’s Day, since Son #3 has a game at midday Sunday, and it’s my turn to work concession stands. Mother’s Day with Mom this year will be bittersweet, to say the least.

Thursday morning. It feels humid, even sitting here at my kitchen table. A mugginess. Temps must be on the rise.

Yesterday was a med day in rotations for me. My treat late afternoon was a mini bag of 94% f/f kettle popcorn. Hit the spot. Had been craving that for some reason.

My workout yesterday morning, LB and triceps, was intense and empowering. I did more both volume and weight on squats this time. I meant in to add 5 lbs to deadlifts and forgot. I'll hit that on Saturday. So it was squats (Smith and DB), walking lunges, bridges (one-leg and regular), deadlifts, rope pull downs, standing tricep extensions, and dips; finished off with 12 hard minutes of power walking -- with a bursting urge to run, but didn't.

Threw in 15 mins s/s cardio elliptical and a bit of ab work (ouch, still sore from Tuesday) early evening.

My Netrition order arrived yesterday. I tried a couple new products. Received an email alert that my blender had been shipped and it's an in-store pickup at my local Walmart. So I may be getting that by Friday.

Today is cardio and biceps.

Slept well last night. Back to LC for two more days.

TOTALS:

CALS...............1881
PROT................209
CARBS..............158
FIBER.................28
FAT...................54

50 MINS LB & TRICEPS
12 MINS POWER WALK CARDIO
15 MINS S/S CARDIO (PM)

Walk Away From Cravings

"Researchers at the University of Exeter, UK, have uncovered a new way to curb cravings: Just walk it off.

At the onset of a craving, just 15 minutes of moderately paced walking will hinder your sweet tooth.
The hormones released during activity will mimic the feeling of satisfaction
after indulging in fatty or sugar-laden foods, and help stir your metabolism.

Even better news is that the effects of the walk can last up to 10 minutes post-activity,
so no need to worry that passing the refrigerator on your way in
will lead you back to temptation. Phew!"

Hope that you have a great mother's day weekend, Twyla! You are a great example to your boys of the importance of taking care of yourself. You are also a thoughtful daughter. Although Bittersweet, I hope that your time with your mom is very meaningful and joyous this year.

All those boys! Gotta love THAT.

I have a funny Mom's Day video clip that I need to email to you, that only a mom of boys would appreciate.

FRIDAY: Did not track religiously.

40 MINS CALLANETICS
10 MINS POWER WALK CARDIO A.M.
40 MINS CARDIO PM

SATURDAY:

HIGH DAY IN CARB ROTATIONS.
HUNGER FAR MORE CONTROLLED TODAY THAN ANY DAY THIS PAST WEEK.
AT 7:30 PM I HAD HAD LESS CALORIES OVERALL FOR THE DAY THAN ANY DAY THIS PAST WEEK WHILE DOING LOW CARB, AND I HAVE FAR LESS HUNGER.

THERE'S SOMETHING TO BE SAID ABOUT BALANCE. I OFTEN (more often than not?) DO BETTER WITH MORE CARBS IN CONTROLLING MY HUNGER AND STAYING SATISFIED AND BALANCED, THAN IN GOING TOO LOW.

BEST TIME TO KEEP IT 50 OR UNDER IS A DAY FOLLOWING A HIGH DAY OR MED-HIGH DAY. OTHERWISE, I NEED TO STICK TO 70-100 MIN, AND ON TRAINING DAYS, AS MUCH AS 150, EXCLUDING MY HIGH DAY.

HAVING MADE THAT BALANCE/SATIETY OBSERVATION TODAY, I DECIDED TO GO THROUGH TWO MONTHS OF MY ****** JOURNALING FROM THIS TIME LAST YEAR, AND ON THE WEEKS I AVERAGED 100-150 CARBS DAILY, I HAD LESS HUNGER, THUS EASIER TO MAINTAIN A DEFICIT AND BURN THE FAT. RECORD KEEPING IS A GREAT THING.

TRIED QUINOA TODAY FOR THE FIRST TIME. NOT BAD.

CALS................1922
PROT.................173 (36%)
CARBS................232
FIBER..................26
FAT....................43 (20%)

WORKOUTS:

CARDIO WARMUP 9 MINS
LB TRAINING, WITH BACK, DELTS; some chest (1 HR 10 MINS)
S/S CARDIO POST TRAINING, 18 MINS

SUNDAY Up early. I'll get my cardio in before the day begins. I slept in till 8:30 yesterday, great rest. To bed late last night, and up early this morning. Something tells me I'll be crashing early tonight.

Today will be low in rotations, probably 50-60. That's the plan.

I gained a lot of insight reading last night, both from my past journal entries, to analyzing ****** data, to articles I'd saved. It was an enlightening adventure.
