Feeling guilty this morning.
![]() I was starving when we left my son's football game. The other mother that I was riding with to the game, an away game, asked if we could stop at Taco Bell. Taco Bell is right up there with donuts and icecream in my Love Affair with Fattening Food book. I seemed to instantly justify this event with the fact that our team beat them 54 to 26, elevating our record to 6/0! I caved. I ate a chicken quesidia, a taco, followed by lowfat icecream and a serving of popcorn. ![]() I was an eating machine. Today I commit to very low carb, higher fat and workouts to mitigate my damages. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Updating my progress on my post-pigout fest from last night:
I've had 50 mins of good cardio, 18 mins of that doing Ab Jam, which is cardio AND abs. I've eaten clean all day and guzzled water. My cals overall are down, and I feel very satiated. The mirror is telling me there is no collateral damage from the caving last night. I guess it served as a "carb-up" day, just with a little more fat thrown in than I usually do for carb ups. Life goes on and I'm good to go. Today is my day to run, but I run at night, so that's still on my schedule. I'm gonna go ahead and eat a pre-workout carb snack before, after re-thinking my original menu plan for the day. I'm wasting my time if I try to run w/o carbs. I've been reading Oxygen Mag some today. I'm seeing a pattern. Many testimonials and such throughout, most women are getting in 30-45 mins of cardio 4-5 days per week, with an average of 3 days of weight training. One woman, a fitness competitor, even stated that in her off season she does mostly cardio, with only occasional weights. Hmmm. I guess my running is serving a purpose for my training goals. ![]() Last edited by WATCH-ME-SHRINK : 10-11-2008 at 02:02 PM. |

Twyla, Oh my, your eating has nothing on my carb up day - I had margaritas, tacos and rum cake last night. I too am guzzling water and will not weigh until at least 2 days of clean eating. I was 152 yesterday morning so I'm hoping it will be right around there when I weigh either Tues or Wed. OMG - You are one beautiful woman. You have the most amazing skin! What do you do to take care of that gorgeous skin? Have a great day, I'm sure your weather is like ours high 70s, no humidity, and gorgeous!

Glad your back on track after the football game Twyla! It is amazing that you keep learning things about your training (i.e. oxygen magazine info).
This is going to sound ridiculous but I have not started walking because I don't want to retain fluid and see an increase in the scale number!! How stupid is that... I will get out tonight for a 3 mile walk and not get on the scale until Friday (my weigh day) so I don't have to see the increase....I need to journal this. Have a good day everyone... |

What a great shot Twyla. I love the drama the duo tone conveys. Awesome guns girl.
I think you can be forgiven your Taco Hell - excuse me - Taco Bell temptation. You are very disciplined. Even in your indulgences imho. Rock on rock hard girl. |

Thanks, HB & Daisey! ![]() Disa, stay off the scale for a while. Walking will do you far more good than playing mind games with the meaningless numbers on the scale. Got it? Walk on! Got in my Super Callanetics and a 20-min session of HIIT this morning. Lots of stuff to do today on my day off, and it's only 1/3 done....gotta get at it! Later on. |

PUMPKIN SPICE CAPPUCCINO Nutrition Facts: ![]() CALORIES 220 FAT 8 CARBS 34 FIBER 1 SUGAR 23 PROTEIN 3 I've been dying for a Pumpkin Spice Cappuccino from SuperAmerica Speedway -- theirs is so good -- but the carbs/sugar are so high! I'm trying to decide if having it before a run would help to offset the carb damage. But it's not good carbs! It's sugar. Probably not. ![]() (sigh) |

Hey Twyla - just wanted to check in and tell you I am so so loving your arms!! How did you get them?!!! I have classic case of bingo wings - they need to go. Also would it be possible for me to email you again...? I have just researched thanks to this webdite the Low Carb way of life. As I am a vegetarian - for many reasons - I didn't think it was possible for me, but there is a book by Rose Elliot specifically written for for vegetarians who want to Low Carb. Can't wait. Will probably need help as its all a little new! On the fitness front I have done a cardio DVD - (Davina Mccall Power of three - very good) Three times so far and am feeling. Hubby and I have also been power walking each day since Thursday. Not allowed to run yet, but hey Powerwalking for 50 mins each day is doing me good too. Callanetics has become a nightime ritual - however I don't think I am doing it all correctly..
I hope all is well. Keep smiling. Gurps |

Hey, Gurps! Good work on the walking and Callan! Your commitment to that will definitely pay off.
I will tell you that burning fat and increasing lean body mass, building muscle, can only be done MOST EFFECTIVELY with proper nutrition and clean eating. I've lost very little scale weight in the past six months, but I've decreased my body fat substantially, and I attribute that to clean eating, attention to macros and timing of good carbs, and consistent strength training workouts. As for working your upper body, you may want to start with a DVD to insure that you're using proper form. Form is crucial. Start light, then as you gain strength, you can increase the weight. But I can't stress enough: Nutrition is 80% of it. You will need to make sure you're getting adequate protein while building muscle also. Keep me posted on your progress, the book, and your workouts. Would love to know how it goes ![]() |

Twyla - I do believe you might be able to get a pumpkin latte at Starbucks this time of year. They have sugar-free syrups. Many times when hit with the coffee-lust I get an Americano and have a shot of something sugar-free that they are featuring.
Pumpkin! Mmmmm . . . |

Hey again Twyla - Could you just explain what u meant with regards to Macros and timing of good carbs? This is all so so new to me. I never realised that cutting down on carbs means thats your body begins to use its own body fat for energy. I can't believe how warped the advice that I have been following my whole life is. Do you (or anyone else reading this) have any advice or info that would help me follow a low carb lifestyle? The book is excellent so far. Went shopping today and bought food stuffs. I joined Weightwatchers about 7 weeks ago and everyone was commenting about how I looked so much healthier and the scales showed it too - for the first 2 weeks, then after that I gained. I couldn't understand it to be honest, I was eating "right" counting my points and I was devastated to be honest. Until I realised that they didn't account for muscle, and that muscle weighs more than fat. I was "being so good" and found that WW sent me on a downward spiral both mentally and physically. And after reading so many success stories on this website I decided to look further in to LC, and I was astonished by the amount of negative press. I pursued it anyway and boy am I glad I did - What we have been told for so long is so flawed! My change in attitude was further strengthened when I started reading about Aspartame v Stevia. I'm not one for artifical sweeteners, I don't believe in artificial anything really. But I got on to reading how both the American and European powers that be refuse to acknowledge Stevia (in Europe Stevia is not legalised and can only be sold by a limited few herbalists as medication), but allow Aspartame to be sold legally and widely!! The mind boggles. Time to get clued up, I just wish it hadn't taken so so long. Better late than never tho eh...Sorry to ramble... G x Last edited by Glamour P! : 10-15-2008 at 05:56 PM. |

G, you may find it difficult to maintain a low-carb lifestyle as a vegetarian. I'm certainly not the one to be giving you advice in this regard.
To broaden your knowledge and arm yourself with the facts of low carbing, I highly encourage you to read DANDR (Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution). Or you can try South Beach or Protein Power. You need to understand the fundamentals of a low-carb diet, how it works, the different stages as you progress in your weight loss, etc. It may be that you would do better on a program like Weight Watchers, since you're a vegetarian. This is something you'll need to determine based on your research of the different plans. If you begin to read the Main Boards here on LCF, you'll find a wealth of Information. Begin reading here: http://www.geocities.com/cherilynn82000/Newbiepage.html I just assumed you were a veteran low-carber when I made those comments in my earlier post above. Sorry. ![]() Let me know what you decide after you've had a chance to read the link/tips and comparing that to your new book. You may want to post a Q on the main boards to see if others have tried doing low carb as vegetarians. Keep me posted. ![]() |

Daisy, you know what's weird? I love Cappuccino, but I despise sweetner in my coffee. Makes no sense, huh? With Cappuccino, you're getting a delicacy, an "experience"....! With coffee, you're getting....well, coffee. Is that the difference? Who KNOWS!So unless they start making s/f Cappuccinos (not likely), I'm out of luck. ![]() |

Ooops! So sorry, I assumed when you listed how high the sugar was in the cappuccino you loved that it was sweetened. My bad!
I haven't had a skinny latte in years. I used to love those so much! Now I do have an Americano on occasion with cream and stevia. No pumpkin. ![]() |

Okay. I finally get a break in the weather to get in my run, but even with eating oats -- which normally do wonders for stamina -- I was struggling with my breathing the whole time this morning. I just could not get air. My bronchial issues are really getting on MY NERVES!!!!
![]() Twyla doesn't like it when something stands in the way of her workouts. ![]() This has gone on too long. I see my doc Monday. Hopefully I'll get some drugs and some relief. I've made too much progress with my running. I can't let this setback mess that up. But I gotta realize: Breathing is CRUCIAL to a good run. And when my bronchioles are compromised, then my run will be compromised. I haven't failed. I just need to give my body time to heal. I think I'll try to get in some weights a bit later. At least I got in 26 mins of running, 10 mins of brisk walking, today. |
