MON AUG 25

Good day with satiety. Began feeling sleepy late afternoon. Caught a rare moment with no interruptions after work to afford a nap, and I took advantage of it. About 35 mins or so.

It's overcast now, and that's good for my run. Maybe I can get it in a little earlier. Just had a small amount of banana, rice cake, and 1 tsp of PB (dessert), and that should help a little bit with my run. Today is a low-carb day in my rotation, so I had to put the skids on my choices for pre-run. Looking forward to weights and cardio tomorrow .... AND MORE CARBS.

TOTALS:

CALS 1708

PROT....190 GR....44%
CARBS...87 GR.....18%
FIBER....26 GR
FAT.......73 GR......38%

WORKOUTS:

A.M.

1 Hour Super Callanetics
3 sets plie squats, 10 lbs x 15

P.M.

3 sets 40 pushups
38-40 mins cardio, C25K (running intervals)

Hey T, hope ya had a good run!

Question ... you wrote:

Quote:
I don't want to go under 40 NET carbs for my low, and I don't want to go over 100 NET carbs for my higher days.
So what are you shooting for? What is your carb range for low/high?
What is your max carb on low day and your min carb on high day?

HB,

I was trying to keep my low days (for a while) between 50-60 net, avg, and my high days around 100 net avg...with one day a week a bit higher.

Adding in the high day, Btinc suggested keeping the 2 days following the "higher" day at low carb, then resume the one-day-low, one-day-high, etc.

The only way I can go below 50 net (if I even wanted to???? do I? Not really) is if I up either protein or fat in order to maintain balance and control hunger. I don't want to go back to high fat (i.e., true Atkins), mostly because I just don't feel my best at the high fat end.

I'm rambling.

Your Honor, would you please direct the witness to just answer the question and not editorialize.

Your Honor, please let the witness know that I am further confused by her testimony!

These are the facts as I understand them:

Carb Rotations: 150/50-60/50-60/100/50-60/100/50-60

Please sign the Affidavit or do we need to File a Motion to Continue?

A. You have stated the facts correctly, Counsel.
And with the Court's indulgence, might I add that
these are not expected to remain constant, as it depends
on their effects and the progress that is made in the weeks ahead.

FWIW, I figured out today that Tosca Reno's Eat Clean Diet "hardcore eating plan" = 1600 cal, 25% carbs, 24% fat and 51% protein. That's the hardcore plan.

I was questioning the calorie balance on FitDay, so I experimented. FW *this* IW, when I had an 800 calorie deficit for 2 days, I dropped 4 pounds. down 450 for 2 days, dropped 2 pounds. down 200 for 2 days, up 2 pounds. Down 100 for 2 days, up 5 pounds. Yikes! Just testing all contingencies. Ping pong, ping pong. Probably get my period here.

Daisey, qualification of the facts:

Low one day and high the next is keeping my body guessing.

The numbers are conservative, because I'm an endomorph, and I am trying to determine which number of carbs will allow me to have the energy I need for workouts, but also allow me to continue to burn fat most efficiently. Those numbers are different for everyone, depending on body type, chemical makeup, age, etc.

So I'm gonna try these numbers for a while -- for ME -- and see how I do, based on monthly scale weigh-ins, measuring body fat every 3 weeks, watching how my clothes fit, and paying attention to my energy and satiety levels from week to week.

There's more than one way to skin a cat, as they say.

TUES AUG 26

What a nice day....overcast and cooler, nice change.

I wanted so badly to weigh this morning, just had a sneaking feeling I'd be happy with the readout, but I didn't want to risk having my day ruined again because of a number. I just felt great this morning, lean, more so than I've felt in a long time. Light.

Anyway, satiety was fantastic today. Energy, ditto. The carbs were so appreciated and used quite efficiently, even though they were slightly over target. My fat grams, I notice, were rather low, and yet my macros elsewhere allowed me to keep hunger at bay and energy where it needed to be. Amazing. I want to bottle this feeling/formula.

Off to buy school supplies with my youngest son. Gotta run.

TOTALS:

CALS 1679

PROT.........182 GR........43%
CARBS.......152 GR....... 32%
FIBER..........36 GR
FAT..............45 GR........24%

WORKOUTS:

A.M.

50 mins steady state cardio: (Turbo Jam & HHA Fat-Blasting Cardio w/weights--ouch)

P.M.
25 mins UB weights (triceps, delts, some chest)
20 mins HIIT elliptical

Counselor, please instruct your Witness to further qualify the stated facts (as head jury member Ms Daisy suggests). The Court would like to understand where this piece of evidence fits into the affidavit of facts?

Hey Twyla -

I have a question about your couch to 5K program - You are in great shape and I see you've done a great job with the program. How do you think it would be for someone a little more out of shape (just been doing callanetics for the last 2 months, started walking again the last couple of weeks 2-4 miles, and about 35 lbs above goal weight)? My girlfriend would like me to run a 1/2 marathon in March and just trying to see if it is feasible for me to think about.

And as always your workouts and dedication have me in awe!

Kelley, I definitely KNOW you can do this...esp by MARCH.

Just download Ullrey's podcasts from coolrunning.com and follow them as he directs (), take your time, pace yourself, don't go to hard/fast, and you will be AMAZED at how far/fast you progress.

I will warn you: It's very addictive!

Your weight is irrelevant. That should be the last thing stopping you.

Hope you decide to join us on the C25K challenge. I was supposed to run tonight, but tons of stuff on the agenda, and I gotta leave shortly, so I'll squeeze it in tomorrow night.

Thanks, Icleo.

I basically work UB three days a week: Two days of splits (about 25-30 mins, triceps, delts, chest; then biceps & back), and one total body day where about 35 mins of that routine is upper body supersets. Throughout the week I throw in dips and pushups here and there.

I don't work out at a gym (short on time), just use free weights (dumbbells) and my son's weight machine in the garage for pulldowns, bench, EZ bar extensions, etc.

But thank you!

Hey gang!

I read about carb cycling on the keto board and HB directed me here (since there isn't a carb cycling board). I am going to try this. I have done South Beach and keto but I cheat too much on South Beach and keto was just too hard to maintain. I started carb cycling on Saturday but I'm still working with getting the numbers right. I am going to try to hit similar numbers was Twyla.

I am: 31 years old, 5' 5 1/2", 143 pounds

Here were my carbs the past few days:

Saturday: 141 net (hard workout--ellitical and weights)
Sunday: 63 net (no workout)
Monday: 92 net (no workout)
Tuesday: 67 net (no workout)
Wednesday: 103 net (hard workout--1 hour with personal trainer)
Thursday: shooting for 50-60 (spinning class)

Normally I get in more workouts but this week has been insane at work. I have weights at home so I should shoot for more little workouts!

SG,

Wishing you luck on your carb cycling experience.

Keep in mind, there are many ways to carb cycle, and you have to find one that's best for you and is well adapted to your body type, your workout schedule, and your sensitivity to carbs.

You'll want to tweak and experiment as you go along.

I throw out a piece of caution to you, however. If you think keto was tough, the two-day rotations of carb cycling is much more difficult to adjust to -- IMO.

Curious what you thought was tough about keto? I loved it personally. It was an easier form of discipline for me.

But easy isn't always what's best for us, is it?

Good luck.

T

Would Counsel mind clarifying the question? As I understood the question, it had to do with why the carbs consumed on X date were over the target carb amounts for low-carb days. However, in the first example, the carb totals were only ONE CARB OVER THE TARGET, COUNSELOR.

One frikkin carb!

Or am I missing something here?

Still on cruise control. Sweet.

Auto pilot. Helloooooo? Is this really happening?

Good day. Enjoyed the extra carbs.

Totally enjoyed my run tonight. Running is addictive. Mercy.

Okay, the pending question: Does it get easier?

Yes. No. Yes/No.

No pain, no gain?

But tonight when I was doing my run, I thought about what MYANV said:

VISUALIZATION.

PERFECT!!!!!!!!!!!! You're a wizard!

So there I am, in my last few minutes of my second interval, and I'm thinking when do I get to recover? And then I thought: WRONG TRAIN OF THOUGHT.

SWITCH MENTAL GEARS.

I began thinking to myself: "My legs are getting stronger, leaner. See them? Feel them, Twyla? Feel them getting stronger, Twyla? Do you? Can you see it? Yes, I CAN see it......"

And the mental mantras continued, positive thoughts, repetitive, positive, motivation......!

Eureka!

It works, people!

MVANV......Thank you for sharing that with us!

No more dwelling on the negatives (sore muscles, shortness of breath, sweat, humidity, thirst, etc.)..... we think/see all that we want to become -- that we ARE becoming, with every single step.

Tonight was Day 2 of Week 6. I followed directions. I did fine. But I ran an extra 3 minute interval, and including recovery, the whole thing was 41 mins.

I'll run again on Sunday. Already looking forward to it!
