Jane Gets Real!
Well, there comes a time in every woman's life where she has to except her circumstances and her limitations and make the best of it.
I cannot stick to a diet! There I said it. I cannot for the life of me make a traditional low carb plan a way of eating for myself. I have tried for 6 years. I'm tired of failure and re-starting this or that. And tired of building myself up for one plan after another only to fall into the same pattern of feeling deprived and rebelling. My only solution is to do something I can do forever. My criteria is that I must be able to eat REAL cheese and dressing and mayo... non of that fat free junk. I must be able to eat some bread-y type stuff, like LC tortillas, LC flat bread, flax bread and even dreamfield's pasta, because I LOVE pasta. I also want yummy fresh fruits through this hot Georgia summer, and.... Chocolate! Real, yummy, Dark Chocolate! Based on all of these things that make me happy I think the best thing for me is a low glycemic based diet. There's been a lot of talk about them here the last few days and it is exactly what I've been searching for. I don't want to be in ketosis anymore. I don't want to blow up like a puffer fish everytime I eat a crouton. I want to enjoy my life, learn to eat healthfully and learn how to listen to my body's hunger signals rather than cycling through dieting and binging. Today was my first day and I felt great. I gave myself permission to eat a slice of light bread with dinner and I didn't even want it. I CHOSE not to have it. My little inner brat, lets call her Lucy, doesn't have anything to rebel against. I can eat chocolate for goodness sake! There is a trade off of course and that is slower weight loss than traditional low carb, but frankly any sustainable loss is better than what I have now. I had my DH put the scale away and I'm only weighing every 2 weeks to avoid my obsessiveness. If I see the scale, I will get on it. Part 2 of my plan is exercise! I finally was able to buy the Yourself Fitness! game for PS2. I started last night and I love it! I'm so out of shape that most workouts leave me sick and dizzy and headachy, but this works with my fitness level so it's just right for me. LOVE IT! I'll check back tomorrow! ~Jane Last edited by Mrs. Smith : 04-27-2006 at 07:48 PM. |
