Thanks for the nice greeting. I'm from Colorado originally; went to college in Grand Junction. I rarely find people from the western slope, so I guess that's what drew me to you. I say, go get a massage. No one cares, really. And if they do, so what? You deserve to treat yourself. I think it's all about changing a mindset and becoming comfortable with who you are as well. Monday. I’m really feeling down today, mentally. I can’t put my finger on it but I’m just down. Physically I feel good. My weight is in one of those flux modes where it is bouncing from 214 – 216. It seems after a good two weeks of loss I go into this flux mode where it is tough to lose any at all. I know that it will eventually break but it can be frustrating at times. I don’t think that is the reason I’m not feeling right, but it may be contributing to my mood. I had a decent weekend with my family and I got a lot of yard work done, so there is no reason I should feel down, yet I do. Hmmm, very strange. Go Mavs! I haven't heard that in forever. Congrats on the listing and don't worry about a bounce. Are you eating enough veggies? Drinking enough water? If you are adding exercise in, you may have to keep the carbs up just a bit to be able to jump start a loss.

I’m feeling good today, both mentally and physically. I had a great hike yesterday at lunch. I think I’m going to buy better shoes to hike in. Mine get dirt in them and my feet get all dusty. Last night after dinner I worked my Ab’s and did some cardio on the elliptical. It felt good! Tonight is the Legs workout. My weight is still fluctuating but it dropped this morning. I’ll wait and see what tomorrow shows before I count the loss. Thought I'd come and visit... ![]() Read your intro and can so feel your pain. My daughter is obese and a junion in HS, Superior Honor roll student, class pres, etc. She has the respect of her fellow students in class, but of course her weight hinders lots of things. One being not having a date for prom. She didn't 'seem' bothered by it, but I know it has to hurt somewhere. She did Atkins with me once before...total not net carbs, and she lost some weight, but at her age it was just too hard to make the change. So now she is back and more. I can't tell her, make her, but I am hoping she will get back at something, I just don't know how to encourage her anymore without bringing a distance betw. us. I hurt for her. Anyway...just wondered how your knee is doing ? I have a real bad one as well, but know I won't get any help until I am about 60. I have been taking 3 omegas every day now and it sure helps. I haven't had any pain since. I do have to take it easy on leg day though and when it gets too heavy a brace. I also make sure I have my rest days, right now its Wednesdays, Sat. Sunday....eventually I will be back to lifting Wednesdays, I hope. Ok gotta run....shower Laters Bu |

Hey Bu! Nice of you to check in. My Son is a sophomore and is heavier than I was at his age and it scares me to death. I can't make him lose weight or eat healthier, I just hope he figures it out sooner rather than later.
April 5, 2007 I did my first leg session last night. It felt pretty good. I did notice some knee discomfort during a couple of lifts. I’ve got to be careful. I don’t want to stop all my momentum with sore or hurt knees. Today I’ll take a hike at lunch and then it’s Abs & elliptical tonight. I’m starting to get into this. The scale was kind and I’m now at 214. It’s always nice to see a drop. The weather is beautiful right now. We had a little rain this morning and now the sun is shining. Should be in the 70’s today. Glad to be able to get out during the spring. I am loving my hikes at lunch. .. I want my 70 degree weather back.. .. that was on Tuesday..then boom.. back in the 30's.. .. thats Indiana for ya.. grrgood for you and all this exercise.. I so need to get back to it.. ..my oldest is in the 10th grade as well.. he went on Atkins with me all last summer and did great.. its harder when they are in school.. he has gained alittle back but not all.. and says he will loose more this sumemr.. so we shall see.. he is 6' 2".. so that sure helps.. lol.. enjoy your weather for me.. .. ![]()

Monday. I’m learning how my body reacts to the lifting sessions. It took me longer to recover from the leg session than I thought. Thursday night I could not finish my elliptical workout as my legs just ran out of gas. So, I need to give myself more time to recover after lifting. For now I plan on walking at lunch on but skipping the cardio at home on Wed and Thursday and seeing how that affects things. This Easter weekend was pretty good eating wise. I stayed on plan. Sunday I BBQ’d steak. Sunday night my stomach hurt. It still hurt Monday morning so much that I skipped breakfast. Still a little sore but much better. I think that as I eat less red meat that my body is reacting to the times I do eat it. My dinner was also a little more quantity than I have been eating and that may have something to do with it as well. Whatever the reason I will be mindful of this and watch what happens the next time I eat steak. Not much movement on the scale lately. Still bouncing around. Today I am at 213.6 pounds. Down a little but it is really coming off slowly now. I guess I need to get used to the idea that my weight is still coming off but it is going to take me longer to reach goal. I can handle that as long as I can still see progress. make sure u take your measurements. Lifting is going to change your percentages but not your weight. You are going to improve, but the scale lies too often. You will know the difference before long. The days I feel skinny usually doesn't show on the scale. Also remember, protein takes much longer to digest, esp. red meat, that may be the reason for your stomach probs. Bu - I did take my measurements before I started lifting. I plan on looking at them once a month.
Monet - You are right about the slow down, I'll just keep pushing along. April 10, 2007 Tuesday. I did an upper body workout (arms & shoulders) last night. It felt really good. I’m a little sore this morning but not too bad. I hope to get out and walk/hike at lunch today. Tonight will be elliptical. I am down a pound this morning. That is always good. Last night I helped my youngest, Kati, figure out her schedule for school next year. She will be going into high school. I can’t believe that my little girl is going to be a freshman. Time is ripping by!! My son, Andrew, will get his drivers license this summer! He will be a junior and we are starting to talk about what colleges he wants to go to. This is CRAZY!!! I’m getting older! However, I’m going to hit 43 this fall but I plan on being in the best shape of my adult life when I do! I need to go to my daughters’ track meet this Thursday. I shouldn’t take off from work but I need to do it anyway. Only so many of these days left to enjoy. You are so right, the kids grow way too fast. I am 47 and have one married, 2 in college (one who will be there forever if they don't stop sending him to Iraq), and the girl at the end of her junior year. We went thru wrestling, basketball, football, track, plays and concerts and we stayed in a small town to raise them. Could have made more money in bigger places, but wow......its almost over already, and boy am I glad we stayed for the kids. When u send one off to war, everything in life comes into place.......what's important is that they have the best start we can give them. The rest is in the hands of the Highest. Enjoy !!!!! Bu |

Wednesday. Great day yesterday! It was cold and windy but I still got out at lunch and did my hike. It felt great. Then after dinner I did an elliptical workout. I feel really good this morning. I am down another half-pound today and feel like I’m in the groove again. So, as I get closer to my goal weight, I am finding it much more difficult to lose larger numbers during a week. However, even if I don’t lose any in a week I still end up losing about 1-½ pounds a week over the month. So I am happy with that. I’m 27 pounds from goal. That is a lot of weight to go, but I know I can do it. I just have to stay the course. If I can keep this average up I should be able to hit my goal of 185 by my birthday in September. If the weight loss continues to slow down it may take longer, but so what? I’m getting in better shape for life, right? I shouldn’t treat this like a race, but like a change. I’ve changed my lifestyle and the weight loss is a result of the change. If I can keep that mind set then I should be able to maintain the loss and stay healthy. After all, good health is my overall goal. Thursday. It is cold, rainy and now it is snowing. Work is still pretty stressful but I am in a good mood and feeling great. My weight is down ½ pound this morning and I’m getting closer to 210 all the time. When I break that plane I can set my sights on breaking out of the 200’s. That will be something! I lifted again last night. I am liking the routine so far. Busy night tonight; my daughter has a track meet after school (if it doesn’t get snowed out) and my son has a band concert and parent teacher conferences this evening. I have to do all the shuttling around because my wife is in Denver for a conference. I still need to find the time to get in some cardio today. Hmmmm, when?? I don’t know, but I need to keep going. I don’t want to break the weight loss streak I’m in. Things seem positive and I’m handling the stress pretty well. Still no massage but I’ll see. FRIDAY!! Sunny and clear but a little cold. I will walk at lunch. No change in weight today. That’s ok because I just had three days of drops in a row. That has been rare lately. I’ve still got 210 dead in my sights. Well last night was busy and very tiring but I really enjoyed it. Kati did great at the track meet and Andrews concert was really good. Overall a great night! I did not get any elliptical done last night, but I had a nice walk/jog at lunch yesterday so I did get in some cardio. Tonight I will do my leg weight training. Bev comes home tonight from her conference. It will be nice to have the whole family together again. I plan on working in the yard this weekend. Weed & Feed time for the lawn. The fight continues!
