Fluffyman's Defluffing
Welcome everyone. Thanks for stopping by
I started LC the day after Christmas. I'm 34, married with 2 kids under 3. I'm also an insulin dependent diabetic thanks to a car wreck when I was 20. I started at 235, the heaviest I have ever been. I lost down to 190 in 2002, but unfortunately worked in a fried chicken plant in WV in the middle of winter. They fed us off the line every day. Nuf said. A few months ago I started having chest pain and shortness of breath every time I walked up a flight of stairs. Went to the doc and everything checked out after a heart cath/angiogram and a chest ct. He did tell me to lose the 40 pounds I packed on over the last two years here in Germany. I want to do this so I can be healthy again, so I can see my 1 year old get married, so I can see my grandkids. I HAVE to do this. I've started induction countless times. Seems willpower isn't my best asset. Usually day 3 or 4 is the 'fall of the wagon' day. This time is different. I've had one cheat day since Dec 26 and will hopefully not have another. I don't even crave sweets or cake anymore, so I think I can do this. This board is a great place, and the people are truly inspirational. Well, that's the first entry. Stay tuned for more exciting LC tales. Same bat time, same bat channel.

Thanks, motivate. I will try to post something meaningful daily, but with 2 kids, work, an MBA, and the crazy German drivers it might be a challenge.

Wow, today was Sunday brunch at the Officer's Club. Just to put things in perspective, there is a 40 foot wall in the back where they set out every type of pie, cake, pudding, ice cream, and other pure sugar food there is. I successfully walked by all of them without a twinge of craving!
I did, however, eat about 3 pounds of boiled shrimp. I avoided the cocktail sauce, opting for horseradish mixed in mayo instead. I also had some Atkins legal Mongolian beef, some bacon, a few pieces of cheddar cheese, and some tuna salad. Afterward, I waddled to the commissary and bought some kohlrabi and chayote. I saw some recipes and want to try them this week. Exercise was limited to putting all of our Chirstmas stuff up. That entails 2 flights of stairs plus the attic ladder. It took over an hour so I'm claiming it as exercise. I was sure sweating when it was over. As this is the King's birthday as well as my baby sisters, I just wanted to say (with curled lip and swivelling hips) Thank ya, thank, ya, thank ya very much for stoppin' by. I love ya, I really, really do. Yeah huh! |

I myself would have had a hard time. I have to tell you that I would have never thought about having the mayo with horseradish instead of the cocktail sauce. I'll remember that next time I have shrimp. BTW...3 lbs of shrimp ain't nothin to me! ![]() |

Well, it's a small helping for me, too. I'm from Louisiana and can put away the shrimp in a hurry. My 1 year old was in a mood so I had to stop at one plateful since she was ready to go and I wanted the other people around us to be able to eat without ear bleeding shrieks from the princess.

Tuesday, 10 Jan
Sorry I was absent yesterday. Work and family wore me out.
Today started off great but went downhill this afternoon. I was on plan all day - had eggs and a tomato slice for breakfast and 2 deviled eggs for lunch. For some reason my blood sugar was running high so I took extra insulin to get it down. Evidently I took too much because I had a low blood sugar episode around 3 pm today. I had to eat 4 nasty, stale cookies to get it back up. That makes me so freakin . A whole day, probably two ruined. Very, very frustrating. I will try to walk an extra 30 minutes tonight to burn it off, but my ketosis is jacked up right when I was expecting a big drop. Thanks for tuning in. Everyone keep up the good work. |

Hey, you changed your avi pic. I like this new one a lot! It shows off your pretty smile.
I did manage a 30 minute brisk walk this evening, despite it being 22 degrees outside. ![]() |

Ok, I suck at journaling. I admit it. I'm every other day. Just had a lot of things going on yesterday. My wife and I are having some issues. Heck, we've had issues for the past 2 years but things have gotten much worse lately. Ok, enough whining. Move on.
Today wasn't a great day. I fell way off the wagon at lunch. My friend met me for lunch at the Army chow hall. They have wonderful Southern Soul Food Day. Let's just say it started with fried catfish and went downhill from there. I hated myself afterward, but when I was getting my food I didn't seem to care. I think it's the stres at home and the resulting depression. As the warden in Cool Hand Luke says, I've gotta get my mind right. ![]() |

![]() Now, I'm going to tell you like I keep telling myself...Practice make perfect. It's an old saying but it's true. Now imagine going to that chow hall under the same circumstances on the same day but this time in your head imagine yourself not cheating and succeeding. Imagine yourself making good food choices on the menu. This is part of your practicing and making a plan for next time. Now also you want to think about what's going on in your head when your making a bad choice. You said you didn't care. You need to replace that thought with something like...If I don't care, then who will? I care. This sounds silly but when I'm cheating my negative talk is saying..."Who cares?" or "So what?" Stuff like that. So I put a note in my purse that says in big writing, "Who Cares?" and under it I wrote back to myself saying, "I do." I have to look at this note frequently. But not as much as I use to. Don't be too down on yourself. The key is to get back on program that day...that moment...that hour. ![]() Just stay with it. We're all here for you at LCF's ![]()

Thanks, Val. I needed the pep talk. The sad thing was that they had baked chicken. I even debated, but the way I felt today wound up being self-destructive. I have an induction boot camp starting Monday (another board) that will help me "get my mind right" like a night in the box. Sorry if you never saw CHL - none of that will make any sense if you didn't.

Cool Hand Luke - I think I mentioned it up a few posts. Yes, stream of consciousnes posting is hard to follow. I will try to avoid the shortcuts.

Wow, today was a busy day. I got up early this morning with my daughter. It was 15 degrees outside. I went to the gym despite the frosty breath in the car, though. I got in a 20 minute crosstrainer session and 30 minutes of weights. I haven't got in a full workout in a long time. Had Chinese for lunch and stuck with spicy beef and vegetables with no sauce. I did have 1 bite of brown rice, but no more carbs today. I think I've turned the corner with my mood thing, which is a huge improvement.
I plan on hitting the gym again hard tomorrow and Monday, too. Thanks for stopping by. |

Monday, January 16
Today was MLK Day so I was off from work. Unfortunately, it was 10 degrees outside so no walking. Spent the day shopping for furniture I don't need.
I'm doing an induction boot camp on another board so I'm busy studying THE book and keeping accurate records of what I eat and drink. It's been a busy first day. |

Hey Rick I need a new china hutch while your shopping maybe you could find one for me. Of course then you will have to find me a bank to rob as it would cost a small fortune to send it here. Good luck on Boot Camp.
