I have limited knowledge, but my doctor just prescribed magnesium supplements for me (otc). She said to avoid Magnesium OXIDE, and also told me about a powdered product called "Calm". Magnesium oxide is the active ingredient in milk of magnesia. The advantage of the powder was in adjusting the dose.

I take 500 mg with my first meal of the day. If I still haven't moved by midday I take another. Usually that's all I ever need. Most times the one pill in the morning does the trick.
If you are really backed up repeat until you have some movement. Hope that helps! |

I recently started using the powered Calm after reading about it on one of the Forums here. Start out with 2/3 tsp., gradually up the dosage if necessary. Excellent, gentle stuff.

Hmmmm
Been taking 400 mg Mag-Ox for several years to curb kidney stones and am clear. It has not increased any movement whatsoever. Calcium seems to be plugging me up. Using softeners
