Vitamins with Iron
Does it really matter if we are taking a vitamin with Iron in it? If so, why? I am taking a great multi vitamin that has Iron in it and I don't want to give it up.

Check with your Dr. If you still have monthly periods you may need the Iron. After Menopause, it's not recommended in less you give blood regularly.
I have high iron levels, always have. Iron makes me sick to my stomach. |

too much iron is a big problem for men especially, but some women too. it's connected with bad heart problems in some people. there is some evidence that the connection is so strong that the REASON red meat appears not to be healthy is that it has so much iron!
but yes, often women menstruating need a supplement. and others are anemic. ask your dr to test it the next time you are there, why not? in any case, it's not like you can't use up the bottle of vitamins you have. lots of people take iron supplements and it's not like they are dropping like flies! LOL

The problem with iron in a multivitamin is that it's with things like zinc, magnesium and especially calcium which inhibits iron absorption. For me, and I need iron supplements, a multi with iron was a joke. I take mine separately to see any benefit at all.
So if I were you, I wouldn't stop taking the multi you like over that. |
