Is there a form of magnesium that is LESS likely to...

... "help move things along"? I've learned that I need magnesium in order to avoid muscle cramps (at first I thought it was potassium, but it's magnesium that my body is lacking). Problem is, I have IBS and I'm prone to diarrhea. So I've had to be VERY careful with the dosage - it doesn't seem to take much to give me trouble. I'm taking a magnesium citrate powder right now that I dissolve in water. Would a different form of magnesium (chelated maybe?) be less likely to cause problems?

I have used Barbara Hendel's Magnesium Oil applied topically for the past year because of Colitis. I have just recently switched to Magnesium Glycinate (oral tabs) and am not having any problems.

You are most welcome. I found Source Naturals on Amazon pretty cheap. My Dr. recommended the Glycinate so I thought that I would give it a try.

I was also thinking of starting a thread asking about people's favorite brands of supplements, because I want to invest in good ones, but I don't want to waste money either by paying more for the same quality. Anyway, do you like Source Naturals?

You could also take Epsom salt baths.

I was also going to recommend Magnesium Glycinate. Here in the Twin Cities, a nutritional clinic hosts a weekly radio show, and they always recommend the glycinate form for its absorption factor and "intestinal friendliness."

BTW, the calcium form they recommend is Calcium Citrate.

Thank you both! I never thought about Epsom salt baths being effective at getting magnesium into your system, but I'll give it a shot! And I'll buy some Mg-glycine the next time I'm at the health food store.
