Does anyone take SAM-e?

If so, how long did it take before it started working for your mood? your joint pain (if you have any)?

I called the pharmacist today to make sure it was safe to take with my Synthroid and he said it was. I went ahead and called my doctor's office, but of course I had to leave a msg and never heard back from them. She had told me to try St. John's Wort a while back but every time I do I start to have eye twitching and this time I developed facial twitching. Too scary for me, so I stopped it.

I went ahead and bought some SAM-e tonight to give it a try. I've heard great things about it, but wanted some opinions here. TIA

I've never tried it, but I do take 5htp if I feel depression or anxiety coming on and I've found it helps quite a bit.

Thanks for replying Dottie

So 5htp is something you don't have to take daily for it to work?

I went ahead and started SAM-e although my doc never called me back. I trust my pharmacist as he has always helped me in the past with meds. I read that SAM-e can take a while to work, but I could really tell it helped my mood. It's not as cheap as St. John's Wort though I had eye twitching with that so I stopped it. (fingers crossed SAM-e helps both my mood and joint pain )

For me, as long as I recognize the signs that I'm starting to feel depressed, I find it helps in 1-2 days taking 2 pills a day. I'm sure that depends a lot on the individual.

i was on SAMe and liked it. I am not on 5htp and think it might be giving me migranes. Other than the chemical itself, what is the difference between SAMe and 5HTP?

I'm curious on these two products as well. I've started having anxiety again and mood swings pretty badly. I'm thinking of trying the Sam-E first because it seems safer but I need something that stabilizes my mood on a daily basis because I never know when it's going to hit me.

Is Sam-E safe to take with a womens one a day? I read that you should take a b6, b12, and folic acid supplement with it and the one a day's have 100% of both I think.
