Fenugreek is helpful if you ever have a low milk supply.

Fenugreek is also used to treat diabetes.

I also took fish oil which also helped me with the blues. They also have mother's milk tea if you are looking to increase your supply.

I only took my prenatals (actually, I've always taken prenatals as my regular daily vitamin), but I agree with the Fenugreek if you find you have a low supply. Otherwise, why would you think you needed anything else?

After giving birth, my OB told me to take moringa capsules to increase milk flow. Drinking lots of liquid, soup especially, also helped in the milk flow.

DHA!!!! 500 MG doses. I did this while pregnant and while breastfeeding. If you PM me I can give you a direct link to an EXCELLENT source of high MG DHA. Helps your baby develop his brain.

I totally agree with taking DHA during pregnancy and all through breastfeeding. I did so during my pregnancies with my two sons who are now 6 and 5. They are extremely bright.

Ditto on the DHA, great for eye and brain development.

I'm actually pregnant right now, so this thread is very timely for me. Just earlier today, I was looking at what I could take and what I should avoid. I know it's different when you're breastfeeding, but still similar in nature.

At our last appoointment, my OB told me that I'll continue taking my prenatals after I give birth. She said for at least the first month, but she would recommend taking them for at least three months. She also told me to get plenty of vitamin d and DHA. I was meaning to ask her about taking a probiotic, but forgot too.

I also found this article about herbs you should avoid during pregnancy. Which I'm glad I did, because I was drinking aloe vera juice in my smoothies. Alot of the herbs on the list mention why you shouldn't take them while breastfeeding. May be wise to check those out.

If you have sufficient milk, breastmilk is perfect the way it is. I would just take what you need for your basic nutrition. (I'm a retired LLL leader and mom of 6 brilliant and healthy breastfed babies.)
