Fish Oil & Weight Loss???

Is it true that fish oil will help you lose weight? Somebody told me that since they started taking fish oil capsules. That they aren't as hungry as usual.

Thanks in advance.

It's a terrific supplement, but I don't see any reason it would curb your appetite any more than consuming that amount of any fat.

I've been taking fish oil supplements for years--for health, not weight loss.

If someone thinks they're an appetite suppressant, I'd guess that's a placebo effect.

Anything you can do about the nasty fish burps?

I just started taking cod liver oil pills, and if the burps don't get better, I'm not sure I will continue...pretty horrible right now.

I am keeping them in the fridge - that was one thing that a friend recommended to me about them.

Julia Ross (auther of The Diet Cure) recommends fish oil or fatty fish for Omega 3 deficiency that is causing cravings for fatty foods, like cheese and chips. I take two capsules of Carlson's cod liver oil pill per day. It helps to boost serotonin and it makes me sleep better and helps with late night cravings. So I do think it can help if your hunger issues are due to a fatty acid deficiency.

I keep my fish oil in the freezer rather than the fridge. It doesn't 'repeat' on me if I keep it there.
In terms of appetite I think what pp said about deficiencies causing cravings is probably right, along with the anti-depressant effect of fish oil. Low mood usually corresponds with carb cravings and reduced physical activity. At least for me it does!
