5-HTP starting

I just bought 50mg capsules of 5-HTP....I have a lot of trouble sleeping, overweight due to depression/divorce episode...seems like the 5htp might be the cure for what ails me...major problem with mood eating and such.

Check with your pharmacist if any of your scripts will interact adversely with 5htp. I am on a triptan for migraines and 5htp causes serotonin storm for me and I can't take it because of the triptan. Also I think it is suggested to start with a 100 - 200 mg dose at bedtime.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE 5-HTP. I've been on it for years. You cannot take it with any other antidepressants. The max dosage is 100mg 3X a day. I have Now brand 100 mg. If you are depressed take 3X a day. For maintenance take 100mg 1X a day. You will feel great in a few days.

Try checking out one of Daniel Amen's books (he's an MD) from the library. He talks a lot about supplements and what they can do and what might be helpful.

I just loaded up Dad's and my own weekly pill minders with some enhanced choices compliments of my reading.

I hope this works well, and I agree with asking about possible negative effects with drugs you are taking. Your pharmacist will know.

Well, I'm not on any medication other than birth control...I will definitely check to see if that's okay. I've been off lexapro about 6 months, that should be more than enough time right? Thanks. I saw some with St. John's Wort, some were $30 some were $10. I got the 10, it's called Natrol...

I have heard such great things about it, I really hope it works b/c all the LC'ing i've done I didn't lose a pound, I juice detoxed for a week and only lost 1lb, walking, etc...nothing has worked in 7months, every since I had my son it's been extremely hard when before it LC was the way to go with me-immediate results.

Birth control can definitely be affected by some supplements. Call your pharmacist.

I will...I will go off them if that's the issue...I don't need it anymore, and if this will make me better, I'm all for it.
