5 HTP, Same

What time of day should these be taken and what should you feel and is it worth the money.

I get 100 pills of anti depressants for $3.00 and pay $37. for 30 5HTP.

Also, are there any restrictions on drink or food with 5HTP? Just have to get rid of this depression - hate taking the anti depressants.

Thanks - Caty

first and formost, I wouldn't suggest taking 5htp instead of your "anti depressants"

Speak with your dr..

Second, I have seen 5htp in good brands for alot cheaper then that..

When I told my dr that I was depressed she told me that before putting me on medication she would like me to adopt an exercise plan and exercise a 3-6 times a week and if it gets worse, or doesn't get better to come back to her.. now that I exercise, and stay active, my depression only comes and goes when times are really tough..
Maybe you should speak to your dr?

Yeah, I paid a quarter of that at Whole Foods.

I take 100mg mid-afternoon, mid-evening and at bedtime. But I'm no expert, I just read the book "Diet Cure" this week.

I paid much less than that at Kroger. Wal-Mart also sells 5-HTP. Definitely speak to your doctor if taking antidepressants. Some of the meds are actually compatible with 5-HTP. Depression meds tend to merely mask the actual culprit--the lack of aminos in the brain. I took Zoloft and broke out for two weeks. It was miserable. 5-HTP was absolutely amazing. I'd never go back!

YMMV!

I started at 50 mgs of 5 htp and went to 100 mgs daily
but stopped using it in about 2 weeks (I had a bout of vertigo and wasnt sure if the 5htp had anything to do with it)

Can you all share amounts used daily, when you took it and how long until you saw a change and what that change was?

I started three days ago. First took 200mg at bedtime, which really knocked me out.

Then took 100 mid-afternoon, mid-evening and at bedtime. I have not felt any unusual symptoms, but the second night I woke up at 3am and stayed awake for two hours. Last night I slept really good. As far as any other improvements, nothing noticeable yet.

But I have serious mental problems (autism). Really. I know (I hope) it doesn't always seem that way but I do. Being able to edit my words on a forum really improves my ability to communicate. For instance, I added this sentence as I went through and changed some phrases to contractions, which I often forget to use. I'm hoping that some of the amino acid supplements will help with that, but only time will tell.

like everyone else said - consult your doc about the anti-depressents...

as for the 5-htp i've only just started them this week - taken 3 nights so far.
I took them all around the same time - one 100 mg pill around 5 p.m.

i'm mainly taking them for my sleep issues (horrible insomnia)...first night really didn't help - but man oh man - friday night and last night!!? I slept AWESOME!!

not sure they're helping with my mood just yet - I figure that i'll just have to wait and see.

My doc put me on 5HTP for mild depression and it worked wonders for me. I use 100 mg. at bedtime. After using it for a couple of years, I tried weaning off to see if it was making any difference still, and I definitely could feel the blue feelings coming back!

I take it at night because the one I use also has a little Valerian in it that can make you sleepy. I agree with the others that you should discuss this with your doctor first, though.

Thanks guys - I have only 50 mg and didn't notice any difference.

My doctor said to try the 5HTP or Same instead of the anti depressants.

I probably need a truck load with all the stuff going on around here in this house.

Thanks again

Check with your pharmacist before taking to check for interactions with any prescriptions your are on. If you are on a triptan for migraines 5htp reacts adversely and can cause serontonin storm. Also those who are bipolar should only take 5htp with a docs advice.
