Fish Oil for Arthritic Cat
My cat will be 16 next month and while she is on a prescription arthritis med called Metacam, my vet suggested supplementing with fish oil. I have the big 1200mg ones from Costco but she won't eat it in her food so I have to give it to her by mouth (I draw it up in a syringe). He said Evening Primrose or Flax would work also. Has anyone else done this? What and how much did you use?

I know this doesn't answer your question but my dog (aussie) had started limping and we talked to the vet and they said to give her glucosamine/condroitin (sp?). It took about 6 weeks but she is doing so much better now. She doesn't limp at all and she acts like she's young again, playing and jumping around with our younger aussie. Originally the vet suggested a dog brand but now I give her people vits. I just took the dog brand with me to the store and found one with similar doses.
I hope someone can help you out and I'm sorry your kitty doesn't feel well. ![]()

fish oil is good but likely not going to fix the issue.
i've been using hylaurionic acid for myself. It's the precur to gluc/chon which did nothing for me. |

I tried Gluc/chon last year for her and it didn't seem to help. She is on a prescription anti inflammatory but is still stiff. I am giving her 1/2 of a 1200 mg fish oil capsule so i'll give it a month or two and see how it goes.

I will have to say that after about a week on 1/2 of a fish oil capsule, her coat is softer and she APPEARS to be limping less. I will continue and we may bump it to 1 capsule per day. She won't eat it on her food so i have to suck it up in a syringe and force it orally.

I have to say my body didnt respond to the gluc/chond either but i many pets that do respond to the Hylauronic acid.
Im glad the fish oils works. My pup takes it often rolled in pb. |
