Well, maybe difficult but not unhealthy. there are some major marathon runners here ( not this thread I don't think) who run low carb.
Ha! If they are hitting the bars often enough, those six packs are gonna turn into milk jugs eventually! ![]() Congrats on the great losses, and Wow, I can't imagine running that much ( if at all, I need to get in shape . ..) It will be interesting to see how the CLA works for you. Welcome to the thread! ![]() ETA: Some folks here follow no carb, but the ones I know of who do, do so for health reasons, in that they are avoiding symptoms and making their health better by avoiding all carbs. You, OTOH, could follow low carb and still eat carbs up to the level you don't gain, but You might already be doing that. Some folks can eat up to 100g or more carbs per day and still be considered low carb because is less than the 300g/day recommendation of the Food Pyramid. Just sayin' . . .

Thanks for the info; I was always told carbs are needed for running, so I eat a good amount. I don't carb load, but I do eat about 200g / day. I've always found the paleolithic / caveman diet appealing if only because I like hiking and getting away from modern conveniences, so I might give that a try. I already eat a lot of nuts - about 800 of my calories come from nuts.
Thanks again ![]() |

hello
hey everyone! Been a few weeks since I checked in. Still here, and keeping busy. Well the good news is that the combo worked great for me for a few months.. the bad news is that it quit working.
I haven't lost any inches for about 3 or 4 weeks.. I have increased the cla to 6 capsules and borage oil to 5 capsules. Been on that regimen for 2 weeks. I still eat low carb with the exception of one day every few weeks that I eat what I want. I take fish oil with my meals when I remember. My belly feels like it is getting the pooch back, although it doesn't measure larger. What now? Does the coconut oil work with the combo? I still have fat that I want to get rid of. Any suggestions? Does the combo stop completely after awhile? |

But it sounds like it's working again for Trisha! Maybe all you need is to cycle off of it for awhile then start back up. If I remember correctly you had a baby too right? ***Cover your ears Metqa*** ... Again, I'm not totally convinced that all women can get that same body back after children. I feel like I have toned up pretty much everywhere (recent pic included) but my belly is giving me a hard time! Everyone seems to have a routine they like. Mine is HARD CORE training 5 or 6 days a week but I pretty much eat whatever I want. In and Out Burger (not protein style) today! I also take CO, Acytel L-Carnatine and Green Tea. I believe these things make a difference in tearing down body fat. Good luck! ![]() ![]()

Thank you Metqa
So I got to thinking about the CO and the yogurt mix you were talking about. I tried it with some sugar free jello pudding and it was sooooo scrumpsh! chic, I don't understand why its working for me again, but it is. It works so differently for everyone. For me, I know I am losing inches by the way my shorts keep falling down. I take a few step, and have to pull them back up. I went to get a smaller size but they already have winter stuff out, no more summer stuff !! I better get a belt before I embarass myself on the golf course . Anyway, with me, the scale stays put for a long time , which is good that it doesnt go up, but then I'll get a whoosh and lose a few pounds and hold that weight for a few more weeks before it happens again. My Dr. is very pleased with my progress so far. She likes slow and steady.
Both my kids weighed over 8 lbs at birth. Although my starting weight before pregnancy was 117 and I haven't been below 137 since then, my belly did go away completely. I thought I was fat at the time, but people used to pinch me and tell me there wasn't an ounch of fat on me anywhere. What I wouldn't give to be that size again lol. Of course, that was before my neck injury and I was shoveling rocks every night and stayed it really good shape. dixiegal, woohoo you go girl !!! Thats Fantastic progress !!! ![]() Kim, whatcha doin tomorrow? Maybe we can do lunch then? Chrissy and I have been going to the tanning bed to get a base tan before Florida so we don't burn up. We will be in town tomorrow for our last session. Kim is correct, we leave for Florida Friday morning and will be back on the 10th. Just in time for high school orientation that evening and school physical Tuesday. School starts Aug 12 Toms dad gave me a pull cart for my golf bag. It "was" black, but guess what color it is now ?? You got it....Pink !! I spray painted it bubblegum pink, and Tom found a can of kinda pearlized clearcote to spray over it to give it a sparkle in the sun. Its soooo pretty !! I'll have to take a picture for you. We got the pink grips on my clubs too. I can't wait to hit the course !! green, are you doing anything different since the combo stopped working?

Great job everyone!
I have another question. Does either CLA or GLA prevent fluid from accumulating in fat cells? It doesn't seem possible that after just 2 days, my abs would look more defined from fat loss, so I'm guessing it's less fluid retention, but I haven't lost any weight. Even if they just reduce excessive fluid, it's well worth the price. My brother works at GNC and was able to get me 180 CLA 1000 softgels for $18, so I just bought him dinner at Mongolian Barbecue which is great for low carb since you can get about 200g of protein and 0g of carbs as you just load up a bowl full of fish, chicken, and beef. |

Thats the beauty of this combo. I don't know how it works exactly, but it does define the waist
. I'll see if I can dig up the research on just how it does work. |

How Does It Work?
Although researchers are still trying to figure out this very question, the leading CLA researcher, Michael W. Pariza from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, suggests, "In a general sense, what CLA is doing is keeping little fat cells from getting big... perhaps by blocking certain enzymes that let fat cells swell." Regardless of how it works, research shows that CLA is very safe to use because it's a naturally-occurring fat. It's even found in trace amounts in foods like cheese and meats, but not in high enough amounts to have a positive effect. |

CLA (conjugated linoleic acid)
To understand the true benefits of Tonalin CLA,
we must also unlock the mysteries behind CLA itself. To do this, we have gathered below some of the most common questions asked about using Tonalin CLA as a CLA supplement. 1. What is CLA? LA stands for “conjugated linoleic acid”. It is a fatty acid known for promoting good health. This was first identified by Dr. Michael Pariza in 1978 while he was studying beef extract as a cancer prevention. What he found instead provoked a surge of research and scientific studies into the benefits of CLA as a fat reducer. After looking at decades of research scientists have found that CLA may in fact help the body to deposit less fat, build more muscle and may even help prevent fat cells from refilling. 2. How does CLA work? LA actually works within your body in 4 different ways: First: Your body contains an ezyme called lipoprotein lipase or LPL. This enzyme actually breaks down fat from your diet which is then stored in your body. CLA naturally suppresses this ezyme and decreases LPL activity which results in your body deposting and storing less fat overall. Second: CLA decreases the size and the number of fat cells in your body, otherwise known as adipocytes. Third: There is a natural process going on within your body that causes fat cells to disintegrate. This process is called “cell suicide” or the more clinical term, “apoptosis”. CLA increases your body’s apoptosis rate (rate at which fat cells disintegrate) thereby decreasing the number of fat cells that will be stored in your body. Fourth: Another enzyme called carnitine palmitoyltransferase or CPT, transports fatty acids which are turned into the energy you need to keep going. There have been some additional studies that show a CLA supplement can increase your body’s CPT activity. As a result, fat is burned up faster. Here are a few tips other users have found to help minimize any potential side effects of Tonalin CLA: 1. Do not take on an empty stomch. The recommended daily dose for optimum efficeinecy is 3,000-4,000 mg per day. CLA supplements are available in doses of about 500mg to 1300mg. Therefore, it is wise to split the recommended daily dosage into 3 servings and take each one with your main meals. 2. Drink lots of water throughout the day. 3. Eat smaller meals more often during the day. A common schedule many users adopt is to eat approximately every 2-3 hour interval for a total of 5-6 times per day. This would give you a meal, snack, meal, snack, meal and maybe another very light snack. Your last meal or snack should be eaten 3 hours before your bedtime. 4. If you do not adhere to a regular exercise routine, you will notice increased benefits if you include extra activity in your daily routine. Take a walk in the evening or early morning. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Park in the farthest corner of a parking lot and walk the extra steps to the store. Jog up and down the stairs when heading to the basement to do your laundry. Though side effects of Tonalin CLA are rare, they have been reported to occur in some users. All of these little added activities and additional tips practiced throughout the day will add up. Use them to greatly enhance the postive effects without adding any negative side effects when taking Tonalin CLA as a CLA supplement. Final notes on Tonalin CLA A balanced, healthy diet and exercise regime is an important combination to add to the effectiveness of supplementing with Tonalin CLA. No pill in the world is a fix-it-all solution and will do NOTHING for you, if you’re still going to sit on the couch all day and stuff yourself full of high fat foods and junk. Be sensible. Eat healthy, add in some daily exercise and supplement your diet with Tonalin CLA. The results and your better health will then speak for themselves. Aren’t you worth it? GLA (Gamma-linolenic acid)
People lost between 9-to-11 pounds in 6 weeks
while taking GLA during a study done by Dr Mri - a researcher and consultant at the Welsh National School of Medicine in Cardiff and the good & bad news about most studies involving GLA is That You have to be at least 10-to-20% overweight to see any results but... GLA prevents weight gain in people who've lost weight plus GLA is also an appetite suppressant since it raises the levels of serotonin (and serotonin is a hormone that makes you feel full and eat less) and... GLA raises your metabolism by making the "Brown fat" in your body burn calories to keep your body warm. Brown fat (or Brown Adipose tissue) is not the same as the ugly "white" fat that accumulates on your arms, belly, thighs and other problem areas - Brown fat's main job is to burn fat calories for energy to keep your body warm but usually brown fat is not as active in overweight people and that's why you need GLA so you can "turn on" Brown fat so it can help you burn off the ugly "white" fat |

Thanks metga and Trish,
My diet is currently about 30%, 35% 30%, 5% of fat, carbs, protein, alcohol so I guess lowering my carbs to 20% and upping the fat and protein to 37% would be a good idea. The alcohol comes from a couple of drinks a night of either red wine or beer which is supposedly good for your heart anyway. Metga, I do have to agree with the total number of calories when exercising. The only time I've ever noticed carbs help exercise is when I eat a bagel or other high glycemic carbohydrate before a 5K race, I can hold top speed longer. For longer workouts or runs that go more than 30 minutes, it really doesn't matter. They say your body has to switch to only using fat and breaking down muscle mass if your workout lasts longer than 1.5 hours anyway. BTW - I've started taking L-Arginine and L-Carnitine and Resveritrol as these are also suppose to increase fat metabolism, so we'll see if that helps. ![]() |

Running....You really do run a bunch!
Shoot I run about 3-5 miles, 3 days a week and I thought I was hitting it hard. Do you do other activities besides running? I find my kickboxing to be such a good workout. There is no other cardio training that I do that pushes my heart rate as much as that. I'll be sweating so much in my MMA gym that I actually find myself completely dripping. During it's greatest intensity I get a high feeling. Endorphines I'm sure. Trisha....I'm really happy it's working for you again! Now just imagine how much more you'd be burning if you did some kind of activity that got your heart rate up. ![]() Metqa....Are you still doing those video exercises? ![]() Kimlou....What do you do for fitness? |

Are you insinuating, I am a couch potato ?![]() Just kidding.I have a few workout videos. Couple dance ones. ( I am dance challenged, coordination, I have none) When I don't go to the gym. The rehab center here lets you use their facility for 4 days a week 20.00 a month (no contract) It is 8 minutes from the house. If go to any other facility it is a 30-45 minute drive. i live in the country. I miss being close to everything. I will be doing rehab on my hand there for about 6 weeks so I get to use the facility free, and my insurance has to pay .I also have a 90 lb lab who likes to walk, and since we live in a place that has plenty of hills,we walk at least 3 times a week there. But we walk everyday. Hopefully, we won't meet the bear. |

Kimlou.... Nope! Definately does NOT sound like your a coach potato! That's a great deal for a workout place/gym.. I only wish my gyms were that inexpensive.
![]() Trisha.... Well uhmmmm.....that depends on whether you are walking 19 holes or if your riding in a golf cart! If you feel your heart rate going faster, you're doing something right. Bet you look fab with those pink golf clubs! |

Trish-----No, I hear he's around Vanceburg Hill, which backs up to the property behind me. Mountain Lion. An XSIL was sitting for her GD (Menifee Co) about 3 years ago. The gd lived next door and was walking to XSILs house. They looked up nad there was a Mountain Lion in the tree watching her. She is like your gd, small and healthy.
They were afraid to tell her to run, after she got in the house..... lets just say it disappeared ( ) don't know if it is illegal or notChic----- I am pleased with the place, it seem to have just about everything the gyms I have been to have. Except that sexy trainer with the initals HD (for the Harley he rode). He was an insiration, he had lost 125lbs and was buff. If I walk I have to go to Maysville. The walk trail in Vanceburg is the main street downtown and around 2 blocks (1 of them is the local lockup). Hick town !!! ![]() My dog hates it when I do the dance videos, he looks at me like . There is ALWAYS that ONE physical trainer that gives you butterflies upon entrance of the gym.
I really believe that they inspire you to come in and get fit! Mine doesn't work there anymore so my anxiety level has come down quite a bit! at your dog thinking you are crazy while doing your videos! Priceless. |
