Hi Sweetie! Welcome to the CLA/GLA thread! You are correct, This is the best group here at LCF! Your story sounds alot like mine. I lost 70 pounds a few years ago and then regained it all back. I am back with a vengeance now. This time I am doing it slowly. You WILL find support here. You WILL find many friendly people here. Jump in the conversation and make yourself at home. I honestly can not say one bad thing about anyone here.
Oh, yeah....Chic and I go back and forth all the time but we don't mean anything by it. She's kind of like my OLDER sister! (I'll get slapped for that one)Quote:

The girl doing my PT has been there 14 years, and she can't remember ever doing anyone with as much to a hand as mine. Just think he wanted to do all 4 fingers and the thumb that goes to the DeQuervain..
I still can't make a fist and it is so stiff. |

Enough goofy face av, heres my newest pic. My eyes and face were a bit puffy from allergies in Florida
. Wish I could blame that on the rest of my body ![]() My sis sent this to me in an e-mail. I thought it was interesting enough to be post worthy Has anyone else ever heard of this or tried it? We went with some out of town friends to Sweety Pies on Sunday for breakfast, and we sat in the enclosed patio section beside the house. We happened to notice a couple of zip lock baggies pinned to a post and a wall. The bags were half filled with water, each contained 4 pennies, and they were zipped shut. Naturally we were curious! Ms. Sweety told us that these baggies kept the flies away! So naturally we were even more curious! We actually watched some flies come in the open window, stand around on the window sill, and then fly out again. And there were no flies in the eating area! This morning I checked this out on Google... Below are comments on this fly control idea. I'm now a believer! More comments not included here were about pet dogs and fly problems. Zip-lock water bags..... Sue says: Many people swear that a zip-lock bag filled half-way with water and attached over entry-ways will repel flies. No one yet knows how or why it works, but there is speculation that it has something to do with the way the moving water refracts light. If you have tried this please use the comments form at the bottom of the page to share your results with the rest of us. Ann says: October 5th, 2008 at 5:51 PM I did tried the ziplock bag and pennies this weekend. I have a horse trailer with full LQ. The fly's were very bad this weekend while I was camping. I put the baggie with pennies above the door of the LQ. NOT ONE FLY came in the trailer. The horse trailer part had many. Not sure why it works but it does!!!!!!! Danielle says: September 20th, 2008 at 8:43 PM Fill a ziplock bag with water and 5 or 6 pennies and hang it in the problem area. In my case it was a particular window in my home. It had a slight but significant passage way for insects. Ever since I have done that, it has kept flies and wasps away. Some say, that wasps and flies mistake the bag for some sort of other insect nest and are threatened by this. Maggie says: June 7th, 2009 at 11:40 am I swear by the plastic bag of water trick I have them on side porch (our house entry) and all around the basement door. We saw these in Northeast Mo at an Amish grocery store & have used them since... They say it works because a fly sees a reflection & won't come around. DJ says: May 16th, 2009 at 7:25 PM Regarding the science behind zip log bags of water? My research found that each of the millions of molecules of water presents its own prism effect and given that flies have a lot of eyes, to them it's like a zillion disco balls reflecting light, colors and movement in a dizzying manner. When you figure that flies are basically prey for many other bugs, animals, birds, etc., they simply won't take the risk of being around that much perceived action. I moved to a rural area and I thought these "hillbillies" were just yanking my city boy chain but I tried it, worked immediately! We went from hundreds of flies to seeing the occasional one, but he doesn't hang around long.

Thanks Trisha....I would have looked for something like that to post to Phil directly but I was just too tired. Phil....Keep in mind what older sisters do to their younger, BRATTY brothers.....They hang them from door knobs by their underoos!
Long lasting wedgie...Metqa....Now that really sounds like a detox item! Kombucha! You'll have to school me on that one. Is it an Italian liquer? Hi Mikki! Good to see ya. I think that's such a cool idea to go back to school. I'd like to go back too at some point but it would have to be a couple more years or I'd go crazier. A 3 and 5 year old + homework = crappy concentration. Good luck to ya! ![]() Went to a baby shower today. The baby was a preemie that was due next month but was born last month. I had never seen a human that small. Precious. ![]()

I counted 15 deer out in the field tonight. I only got one good pic and I had to stand on top of the LP tank to get it. I did manage to get within 100 yards of them but it was getting to dark for the camara and in night mode the shtter stays open too long to keep it steady. I need to dig out my tripod....or my SLR. The second one I messed around with and lighten it up some so you can see some deer and how close I was. After I took the second pic a yearling started walking right towards me. Thought I was going to get and up close and personal shot of her. She came within 50 yards.

Hey Trish, that sign was funny! I had a water bag hung on the arbor in my garden but it didn't seem to do anything, but maybe I should put it on my door. It looks so hokey, and I think my landlord already hates me.
But every Friday when the garbage man empties the dumpster, it's like Lord of the Flies around here! I'll have to try it again. Thanks for the reminder. I din't have pennies in mine.Quote:

Oh I wish! Here come check us out! Kombucha There are two ways to start: 1) Like yogurt, you can buy a bottle of plain Kombucha from your health food store, make some sweet tea and pour the store bottled Kombucha into that, and let it grow till you have your own ( AKA Scoby (zoogleal mat made of cellulose formed by the Symbiotic Culture of Bacteria and Yeast) or 2) you can ask for someone to send you a mature scoby and some some strong kombucha, that would take less time to get your first finished batch. It takes a few batches for the scoby culture to adjust to your environment and give you the strenth and flavor that you want. All you need to get started are a glass jar, a strong rubber band, a tight weave non terry cloth, White Table Sugar ( I'm serious!), black/green tea, water, Some finished Kombucha, and (if you have one) a scoby.Hey Mikki, How are you doin'! ![]() Hey Kim, the exercise video I uploaded months ago, the ladies always start with gripping and flexing the fingers of the hand Just like Trish mentioned . . ., I guess that's an important exercise. Hey Phil, Mmm Pork sound good, I'm gonna go raid my freezer to see what I've got, . . . Darn it, a bunch of fish! Oh well, I'll just salivate at the screen!

CLA for training gains
Q | I know that CLA supports fat burning, but I've
also heard it can support training. Is this true? A | Yes. Research demonstrates that conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) has multiple benefits for bodybuilders. It is a polyunsaturated fat that has been shown to reduce bodyfat and increase muscle mass. Linoleic acid is a polyunsaturated fatty acid in the omega-6 fatty acid family. Omega-6s are involved with inflammatory processes. However, once linoleic acid has been conjugated (changed from its original form), it no longer functions as an omega-6 fatty acid, and research shows that it can produce many positive training benefits. Numerous research papers have been published on CLA. Although the results of these studies (using both animals and humans) are not in total agreement, data has shown that CLA increases metabolic rate, muscle growth, immune function and the effectiveness of insulin, while it also helps decrease cholesterol and triglyceride levels, as well as abdominal fat. Theoretically, CLA works by inhibiting fat storage; as a result, fat stays in circulation longer, allowing muscles to use it as a source of energy. When researchers supplemented the feed of animal subjects with CLA, the result was a measured increase in muscle mass and a decrease in fat mass. On the human side, a 2000 Journal of Nutrition paper reported that subjects supplementing with CLA lost bodyweight and bodyfat while retaining muscle mass. More recently, the same Scandinavian clinic that released the earlier study reported that subjects taking 4 1/2 grams of CLA per day lost 9% more of their bodyfat, while gaining 2% more lean body mass in one year than a control group--and this was done without the subjects changing their normal diets or exercise routines. CLA is found naturally in dairy foods and meat, as well as in a variety of processed dairy products. The best whole-food sources of CLA are grazing animals (e.g., beef, lamb and turkey). However, one would have to eat such a quantity of food that the additional calories consumed would yield a negative rather than a positive result. The average American tends to consume less than a gram of CLA per day from meat and dairy foods. Research studies have shown that the most effective dose of CLA is three or more grams per day. Take one to three grams of CLA up to three times daily. |

Fuel your fat burning
Cutting carbs encourages your body to rely on
bodyfat as a major fuel source. You can enhance this fat-burning effect with the supplements listed here. * Use EFAs to encourage bodyfat burning. Getting the right dose of essential fatty acids (EFAs) is necessary for keeping your metabolism fired up and the fat burning. The essential fats to be concerned with are omega-3s eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) that can be found in fish oil and flaxseed supplements. These healthy fats actually encourage the body to use other dietary and stored fats as energy. If you choose fish oil, take 1-3 g twice a day; if you opt for flaxseed oil, a tablespoon once or twice a day will suffice. * Take carnitine to help mobilize fat. Carnitine helps to carry fat into the mitochondria of cells, where it gets burned for energy. A recent study demonstrated that 3 g of carnitine supplementation per day for 10 days increased fat oxidation in healthy subjects. Take 1-2 g twice a day, preferably on an empty stomach. |
