Some info I found about Coconut Oil

Coconut Oil - Thermogenesis and Weight Loss
Research has shown that coconut oil increases thermogenesis, the rate of burning calories to produce heat and energy from food. Research has also shown that animals fed MCT oils had smaller fat pads and a number of key adipogenic genes were down-regulated. MCT fed animals also had improved insulin sensitivity, glucose tolerance and reduced adipose tissue lipoprotein lipase.
It has become clear that individuals consuming coconut oil rather than soybean, olive or other LCT (long chain triglyceride) oils have an edge in losing weight and keeping it off

Dosage: How much is needed?
The equivalent of 3.5 tablespoons of coconut oil, 10 ounces of coconut milk or 7 ounces of raw coconut (approximately one half of a raw coconut per day).

Safety Precautions and Side Effects
Coconut oil is food and can be consumed freely without any adverse effects. The only precaution is to keep your total calories within the range that is appropriate for your body type and activity level.

I'm really bad about waiting for stuff in the mail so yes, I just go down to my local Vitamin Shoppe for it. Again, I'm prolly paying more for it than I would be online.
I have my DH taking it now cuz he can't believe the difference in me from 1 weeks worth. I think the key is to take it as recommended, daily.

If you start taking it, let me know how things go.....

I just added a Tbsp to my coffee. It tastes pretty good. We just have the LuAnne supermarket brand, but I am going to order the good stuff from Netrition and try it . I have no idea how much I weigh now. 16 shorts are still loose but my scale is wacky so I avoid it until we can get a more accurate one. I think I'm going to the the dumbell test and weigh it and compare its weight to my scale

Hey! Did I ever mention that I HATE scales???

So I tried putting the CO in my coffee the other day....upset my tummy but good but putting it in my tea works great. I just took a spoonful from the jar and guess what? It wasn't bad. Kinda tasted like butter, bet it would be great on toast. I'm really looking forward to my new relationship with it. Feel like I'm in a new romance right now!

We had a terrible storm last night. About 2am there was a loud crack of lighting and everything lit up. It hit something very close. I got up and looked out the window and it looked like a UFO light show with all the lightning flashing around. Tom slept right through it lol. Found out today, the wireless router and Toms computer Ethernet card got fried. The only reason it didnt take me out is I am on the wireless laptop TG !!. The weather lately is so freaky. It was in the 90's yesterday and it started hailing !!!

Tomorrows Forecast------ The same

I was between Morehead and Mt.Sterling about 11 am today. Those clouds were sooo black they looked purple. I turned around and came back home. That adorable piece of furniture I saw yesterday will just have to wait.
Took a nap instead!
Confession: I am Kim and I am an inpulse shopper. Mad, excited, sad, happy it doesn't matter

BTW Trish. At WalMart in the vits tey have CO there too not for sure of the brand. I think I saw some at GNC too. I use the Nutiva at Netrition I like it ! Not to fond of the Louann brand. It is puished to the back of the cupboards in case of emergency.

I'm really glad you folks are getting into coconut oil. It really is awesome stuff. You should check out some of the coconut oil threads. Have any of you tried it as bark? Coconut oil chocolate bark candy. You basically mix it with cocoa powder and sweetener and a bit of vanilla, and chill it in the freezer till it's solid enough to snap into bite size pieces. You have to eat it quickly cause it will melt if handled. When I wanted a good healthy treat snack I'd make it by lining a styrofoam tray with plastic wrap, placing seeds and nuts in the tray, the pouring the cocoa nut oil chocolate syrup over all of it and freezing it to make a choco nutty bar.

4T coconut oil ( virgin or refined depending on if you want the taste)
1.5T cocoa powder. Dutch processed cocoa will be more like dark chocolate
few drops of vanilla
Equivalent 8 teaspoons sugar sweetener. My stevia has a tiny scoop to sweeten one cup of coffee. I said 8t sugar ince most folks use two teaspoons of sugar for coffee and I use 4 scoops , or two scoops of that and two drops ezsweetz. Careful since both stevia and cocoa powder tend to be bitter.

Heat the coconut oil till melted or just warm, add the vanilla and sweetener, and cocoa powder and stir till all blended. Pour into a plastic or wax lined plate, set in freezer until it is solid, 5-10 minutes. Snap or break apart and enjoy.

Just a peeve : some people call it cocoa crack cause it "cracks" when you break it and folks think its funny to say they are addicted to crack, but I don't since the "cocoa crack" is a phrase associated with drug dealers who smuggle in crack cocaine mixed with cocoa powder and I don't think being addicted to crack would be all that much fun. But folks can call it what they like. I was introduced to it as cocoa bark so that's what I call it.

Thanks metqa, I have a recipe but have never tried it. I'm a disaster in the kitchen !! here is the recipe I have, looks pretty much like yours

Chocolate Bark
4 T. (1/4 cup) Virgin Coconut Oil
1-1.5 T. Cocoa Powder
1/4 t. lowcarb sweetner, such as stevia or xylitol
2 oz nuts (optional)
Melt the coconut oil to a liquid, add in cocoa powder and sweetener. Stir to combine and blend well.
Blend nuts into chocolate mixture (Optional)
Have chlled a metal bakeware lasagna or cake pan or pans in freezer for 10 minutes or so. Remove from freezer and line with waxed paper. Then pour mixture into chilled pan and spread to desired thickness.
Pop in refrigerator or freezer on level shelf and let sit 10 minutes or so. It will harden quickly and breaks with a snap

I bet if you added some crunched up almonds it would be like an almond hershey bar

Gosh you guys....that bark sounds so good! I did a bad thing about a week ago but it was sooooo goooood to be soooo bad. I bought a container of Ben and Jerry's Oatmeal Chunk Cookie Dough icecream, a bag of mini Heathbars and a container of hot fudge. Mixed it all together and about died twice. The first time of sheer heaven, the second of plain guilt. If I had some bark, I could of avoided all that sugar!

Hi, All. I just started taking the GLA/CLA combo this week. I've been taking Evening Primrose Oil for PMS for about a month now, but added CLA. I know Borage Oil has more GLA, but I'm ok with that. I'm trying to lose a few pounds before my wedding in later June. I'm not really eating low-carb (although your stories all make me wonder if I should!). I'm also intrigued by coconut oil and may start adding it to my coffee. I just wanted a place to talk about my experience with GLA/CLA. The first day I was so sick and got terrible headaches, but they seem mostly gone now. Did anyone see results in a couple weeks? My wedding is June 27, so I've got about 3 weeks.

Hi doggrrrl.....My suggestion to lose the weight quickly is to go strictly on LCs ASAP! Don't eat more than 30 to 50 carbs daily until you get to your desired weight. Take the combo AND try the Coconut Oil all together but stay strict and DO NOT fall off the plan. It helps to get your heart rate up too....so go get yourself tired somehow! It'll take some work and effort but just imagine how great you'll feel and look walking down that isle! Good luck.

Metqa...No, I think I may have been on a sugar high and didn't feel anything!

Good suggestion Chic!

You are lucky. If I ate that, I'd be suffering afterward! theres a Dairy Queen within Spitting distance of my place, and I learned over and over what a sugar headache felt like!

Actor David Carradine Found Dead In Bangkok

Last Update: 10:13 am

David Carradine

BANGKOK (AP) -- Actor David Carradine, star of the 1970s TV series "Kung Fu" who also had a wide-ranging career in the movies, has been found dead in the Thai capital, Bangkok.

A spokesman for the U.S. Embassy, Michael Turner, confirmed the death of the 72-year-old actor. He says Carradine died either late Wednesday or early Thursday, but he could not provide further details out of consideration for his family.

The Web site of the newspaper The Nation cited unidentified police sources as saying Carradine was found Thursday hanged in his luxury hotel room and is believed to have committed suicide.

Carradine was a leading member of a venerable Hollywood acting family that included his father, character actor John Carradine, and brother Keith.

I bet if you added some crunched up almonds it would be like an almond hershey bar

Heres mine:
4 T. EVCO I use Nutiva ( If I am running low on Nutiva I blend 3T of Nutiva to 1 T of the Louann I keep just for emergencies) the Nutiva makes a creamier bar where to me the Louann makes a more "parafin " bark
4 pkts of sweetener mix Normally 1 Splenda 3 Stevias or just what I have I have xylitol but it gives a cool sensation taste
1 1/2 T of Cocoa Powder
Peanut Butter to taste
( I use unsalted if I am using nuts in the bark)
Nuts

I use a paper plate line with wax paper. Put nuts on wax paper.
Melt EVCO in microwave, add cocoa powder and Sweetener, mix till blended add peanut butter.
Pour melted mixture over nuts. Place in freezer about 15 mins. Turn the bark upside down on plate ,break in pieces. Place in storage bag. I keep mine in the freezer

I make 3 batches at a time, 1 with pecans, 1 with almonds and 1 with walnuts

If I make it with crunchy peanut butter I don't add nuts
