L-glutamine and chromium zap sugar cravings

Has anyone else found that while taking these supplements? I take Chromium with every meal, and one dose of L-glutamine per day.

My appetite is greatly suppressed. No cravings for anything sweet at all! Also, it's easy to eat just enough calories if you exclude nuts and nut butter. It's actually kind of alarming how well it's working!

I've started to take 1gms of L-glutamine and 400mcg of Chromium per day and the effects are amazing, normally I'd graze throughout the day on sugar free sweeties and have the odd handful of nuts here and there but amazingly enough all this has disappeared, I've even managed to avoid eating the muffins which someone left this week on a colleagues desk at work ( I'm sure they were deliberately left there to test me..lol)

All I've got to do now is to remember to take the darn things, with the memory span of a goldfish that's easier said than done!

That's so cool to hear you've had a similar experience! Blissfully snack-free. I can't even finish more than half of an apple. For a person who has a tendency to graze, it's wonderful! I'm having a hard time consuming enough calories, to be honest. Good luck remembering to take them!

I'm taking chromium and l-glutamine when I wake up and then about 11 am. Plus I stopped aspartame (diet cokes) and am drinking plenty of water. Have gone a week without a single craving. For me, that's a long time.

The Diet Cure is saying Biotin is also a huge craving fighter (i.e. 5000 mcg) and Zinc is a big one. I am taking all four, LOL! It could just be psychological but, I think its working.

Biotin and Zinc, huh? Will look into those if this routine stops working. Need to thoroughly read The Diet Cure. Thank you for the reminder, VanjaJames!

Yes, yes, yes. They really do help. I am taking them twice per day -- am and pm. I even have some powdered L-glut and when I feel a sweet/snacky craving coming on I'll sprinkle a very small amount under my tongue and it WORKS!

It's funny, because I know that doing induction by the book is definitely suppressing my appetite, but I'm not sure that I could be doing it by the book without the L-glutamine and chromium, kwim?

ETA: I am also drinking hot herbal tea in the evenings after dinner, which seems to be further helping with cravings. I am simply not having them. I have not cheated. This is a FIRST for me. Seriously.

I got mine at Henry's. But I'm sure any vitamin shop would have them. By the way, my chromium is GTF chromium, not picolinate. I don't know if that makes a difference, but I thought I should mention it.

Hi!

I take the L-Glutamine and Biotin. I'll consider adding Zinc.

Since I am a diabetic on 2 diabetes medications, I cannot safely use any type of chromium supplementation.

One word of caution about the Chromium, for diabetics, pre-diabetics or hypoglycemics - Chromium can significantly lower someone's blood sugar and also may react with some medications.

Before taking chromium, please do your homework and/or check with your health care provider.

Quote:
Chromium, Glucose Tolerance Factor (GTF Chromium)
Chromium supplementation may enhance the effects of drugs for diabetes (e.g., insulin, blood sugar-lowering agents) and possibly lead to hypoglycemia. Therefore, people with diabetes taking these medications should supplement with chromium only under the supervision of a doctor.

Do you think Chromium would mix well with high cholesterol meds? I have been taking them for almost a month....

Sorry SweetPoison, I don't have any idea because I don't take any meds other than allergy spray so I never really think about that stuff. I think you should call your doc's office first just to be sure.

Hey SP,
I would read up on Chromium and drug interactions to see if it interacts with your particular meds.

You need to take l-glutamine 90 minutes after or before a meal with protein. The protein in your meal will compete with the l-glutamine you have taken. I found this tidbit in "The Diet Cure" by Julia Ross.

Chromium of any kind works.

Lauren - the Chromium can be taken at every meal, zinc I need to re-read, and magnesium you can do 200 mcg dose maybe twice a day (any more could cause bowel issues for some i.e. loose stool) and the biotin can be a super dose (i.e. 5000)

Definitely check with your Dr. Marie and have you done all of your research on the dangers of statins and the natural way to regulate inflammaiton, particle sizes, etc? Just let me know if you wold like assitance with that ok? Interesting fact about chromium...it is the portion of the grain that regulates blood glucose (glucose tolerance factor as mentioned above) that is refined out.....just a little tid bit there.

I am wondering though, why hasn't this been more well known to help with cravings?
