I take it because both Dr. Atkins and Julia Ross list it.

I think Julia Ross suggests the True Balance Multi by NOW as it specifically has high chromium. (Since my other brand multi only has a low amount, I take the piccolinate also.)

She has it as one of the supplements in The Mood Cure for "easing the stress."

I see Dr. Atkins lists it in his daily basics, but I don't know why.

I don't think I notice a difference between before I started taking it, a few months ago, and now. But I think its part of the overall program for me.

Do you remember why you bought yours initially?

It helps to stabilize your blood sugar. A good multi will have plenty but if you are insulin resistant or have wild blood sugar swings which cause cravings you can take a supp.

If its supposed to help boost your memory than its not working if you can't remember why you are taking it. LOL

I know I why I am taking it! Because it is an often recommended supplement for anxiety / depression.

I said I don't know why Dr. Atkins listed it. I guess it helps with sugar cravings, but that is not an issue of mine, so I don't know much about that or take it for that.

I don't "recall" saying it had anything to do with boosting memory!

I take it but never knew what it was for.

DH is the supplement king and is always throwing an extra capsule my way to add to my regimen.

It helps to stabilize your blood sugars. Rises in insulin levels or blood sugars are what causes cravings. Reread DANDR-Dr. A wrote a lot about chromium.

I have taken various versions of Chromium with little apparent effect. Chromium supposedly helps blood sugar control. I test my blood sugar three times a day, and you would think as a diabetic it would make a difference for me. Alas, nothing. I still get chromium in my mega multi-vitamin, but for now at least I decline to add chromium to the fistfull I already take.

Just curious-do you take ALA? I have read in several books this is beneficial for diabetics. I take if for its great antioxidant properties.

From what I understand, it is supposed to help stop the sweets cravings.
I did a web search and found chromium picolinate taken daily was working in 40% of the people studied.
I am always craving sweets so I eat sweets in place of good foods.
I started taking the chromium today.
I'm truly hoping it helps.

I remember reading somewhere that it basically raises your blood temperature a tiny bit, so you burn a few calories. I've noticed that chromium picolinate is fairly inexpensive and have seen it "bundled" with other supplements, such as green tea extract and energy boosting B vitamins.

I feel like chromium picolinate has the opposite effect for me. It makes me super-hungry.. Not like binge eating-emotional hungry, but like, low-blood-sugar-going-to-pass-out hungry. Never failingly, every time I take it. Anyone else?

I've been taking it a couple months. It does seem to be curbing my appetite a bit, but not sure it's doing that just for sugar cravings, which I rarely have anyway. Not a big sweets eater by nature. It seems to be curbing my hunger a bit for ALL foods. I'm eating much less than I was two months ago. I eat my 3 meals a day, but am not particularly hungry for them. Not sure if it's the chromium piccolinate or the acetyl-L-carnitine I started at the same time.

I recently switched from chromium picolinate to GTF chromium. It seems that the GTF chromium is doing a better job. Dr. Weil recommend GTF over picolinate.
