ANOTHER thread I have missed over the years. In 1988 I went to Diet Center in Tucson and lost 55 lbs in 9 weeks. One of the requirements was that you had to have 2 tablespoons a day of Organic ACV (with the "Mother"). Back then the only way you could get it was to buy bottles of it from them. You could eat it on your salad, on your veggies or you could drink it mixed with water and back then a pink packet of sweetener. It was delicious as a drink.

I forgot how much energy I had back then. I never had bathroom problems, even though Diet Centers was very low carb and very limited veggies and seriously, I went from 188 to 133 in 9 short weeks.

I'm heading out now to get my ACV and get "going" again!

This time I am going to change the drink to modern times:

2 teaspoons ACV
8 ounces of water
1 packet Splenda

Back then when I drank it I had one when I first got up in the AM, 30 minutes before lunch, then 30 minutes before dinner.

They also told you you could just put the 2 teaspoons of ACV in a glass and gulp it but that you should make sure and either rinse your mouth out well or brush your teeth as the acidity could hurt your teeth.

Thanks for bumping this thread to the top! I'm a newbie and would have missed it! I'm definitely going to try the ACV when I can find the right kind. It sure can't hurt anything!

I got the Bragg Organic Apple Cider Vinegar. Their web site directs you to stores that carry it. I got it at my local health food store but after I got home I noticed they carry it at King Soopers. Just google Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar and their web site comes up!

I ordered a bottle from the Bragg website. Dumb me! I should have checked first to see what stores they are in. The postage is costing me more than the product! Oh well, live and learn! Can't wait to try it!

I'm ready Rebecca! There is NO WAY my husband would drink any kind of vinegar. So I got him the pills. I got Natural Factors Apple Cider Vinegar 500 mg. The health food store said the only ingredients are the Apple cider vinegar 500 mg and the capsule. I have sent an email to Natural Factors as well to verify. I am sticking to the liquid form.

I'm in, too. I've got 2 bottles of the good stuff I ordered 2 months ago and still haven't tried (I'm inherently skeptical of panacea/miracle cure-alls), but it was on clearance, and I like vinegar dressings anyway. I'm going to use the formula Sooz suggested. I'll have to go back and read this whole thread when I have time later.

How much do you use each time and how many times a day? I use to do this at one time and it does help with weight loss. I don't remember as to why I stopped doing it but I'm going to start up again. I just drink it with the water real fast LOL. Easiest way to get it down and get all the benefit from it. I don't trust the capsule form to be as good as the real stuff.

Here is what I am doing:

2 teaspoons ACV
4 to 8 ounces of water
1 packet Splenda or 1-2 drops of Stevia (optional but I like it with this)

First thing in the AM. 30 minutes or so before lunch and dinner.

I drank mine over ice with a straw, or just gulped it down. Make sure and rinse your mouth well after because the acidity of the ACV can eat your tooth enamel.

I've had 2 doses today but will have 3 a day from here on!

The big vitamin shop carries it by the gallon. That's what I usually grab. I add it to my italian salad dressing and all other recipes that call for vinegar.

I just made a glass of this: water, lots of ice, 2 tsp. ACV, stevia for sweetening. I really like the taste of it.

If you guys are drinking this make sure to rinse with water (don't brush) afterward because it will ruin your enamel.

I'm in! I found Bragg's at a health food store today and bought it...even though I already ordered a bottle on the internet! So, hopefully it works! I put a tablespoon in my diet Lipton Green Tea. Can't even taste the ACV! Can't wait to see what it does for me!

I'm sure some may say I'm wrong, but I think drinking with a straw keeps the ACV drink away from your teeth.

I think the Braggs keeps for 3-5 years at least, so you should be fine.

I just started drinking 2 TBS in water (w/ shot of lemonade), twice a day, 2 days ago. I think I'll up it to three times. I prefer it after eating, as it felt a bit funny on an empty stomach. I'm hoping for the detox benefit, but weight loss help would be more than welcome

Anyone do it for a while and have a "real life" testimony as to it's benefits? I've read the thread through and there aren't any "hey, I lost X amount of weight" comments.

TIA!

I took a tsp. yesterday morning then had some on a salad in the afternoon. Today I'm packing to go out of town for 4 days, so I'm going to have to suspend this experiment until next Tuesday.

I think it's because it doesn't really work as a weight loss product, sure ACV is healthy and full of minerals, but it's not going to make you lose. I hope people don't overdose on it, like some do with CO, and feel sick.

I can't stand it- always gives me a headache.

thanx for the bump ..

i find this interesting mostly bc my great uncle..
he just passed away after having a stroke last thanxgiving..
he was always very active his entire life...
was in process of building his third home..
and insisted on doing yard work and mowing his lawns himself...
personally running his businesses etc...
thing is..
he Swore by this stuff...
said it was what gave him all his energy and spunk..
and claimed it was the root of his long and healthy life..
i would like to mention that when he passed..
he was 103 and never slowed down...not once ..
i could never really grasp that he was any older than 65 or so...
bc he didnt look it or act it..
wonder if the ACV really did do as much for him as he claimed..

I have heard this too Shirl, so I drink mine from a straw when I can, but just rinse well when I can't.

I can't really attest to its validity as a weight loss product either because the only time I’ve ever used it was when I was also doing something else to lose weight at the same time. So don’t know if it was the ACV or the diet. And since I'm not willing to stop LC'ing to test it, I will never know! But I can tell that since I started my 3X a day ACV cocktail I do seem to have more energy.

If you go back to the very first post by Aryn who started this thread she says her MIL: “lost almost 40 lbs and 8 inches off her waist by supplementing her diet with a tonic of Apple Cider Vinegar. She hasn't even changed her eating habits--which are rather bad usually. Another claim she has is that she has energy that she has missed for over 10 years. All this has happened in a 30 day period.”

As far as too much, I would be very careful about that too! The Bragg web site says: "There is no clear limit as to how much Apple Cider Vinegar an individual can or should ingest. However, one should remember that, as with anything in life, one can have "too much of a good thing". It is recommended that an individual take the ACV cocktail three times a day for maximum results. The cocktail consists of 1 to 2 tsps. organic raw ACV mixed with....."

Wow... Sorry to hear about your uncle passing, but 103!! Nice. I don't know either if it was the ACV but I think as long as it is not overdone, it can't hurt! I wonder how much he used?

I have an appointment next week with my GP so, I am going to ask him what he thinks!

but see again it makes me suspicious because she is referring to her MIL- it's like the friend of a friend that we know that did it.

I don't doubt the added energy- the person might have been deficient in minerals which the ACV provided.

Also, all the recommendations and amazing info on it comes from websites selling it. I've never read an independent source talk about it causing this miraculous (no diet change needed) weight loss.

I think it can be a good ingredient in homemade dressings
