Okay....something weird is going on. I too posted on last months thread somehow. Oh well, just to sum it up, I think I said........(shoot I don't remember!) Oh well, I posted something about good luck on a new job to Metqa and for Trisha to have fun at Ceasars! I think I entered the Twiligh Zone for a minute. Strange.

Mikki...keep going gal pal! You'll drop those 12 like a hot potato. I think I'm gonna try some L-Carnitine to scrape off the rest. My buddy who is a bodybuilder suggested I try it for those stubborn last lbs.

I'm back on GLA starting today.

Hey guys,

Remember I posted about Acetyl- L Carnitine a few months ago? The Acetyl-L is the one to get!

My daughter and I have been using it and it makes a world of difference! Not just any old l-carnitine will do though!

ADLMA!!!!! right back at ya!!!

Denise...how's the new job?

MG....if you don't mind, can you explain the difference in L-Carnitines. I've started taking it but it's not the NOW brand. I gotta say....I'm kind of already feeling the difference a bit!

Hello to everyone....!

Heya Chic!

It's not the brand that matters really, it is the chemical make-up. L-Carnitine is one type and Acetyl-L is another. Acetyl-L is better assimilated and more beneficial for fat-burning and energy.

We were taking prescription L-Carnitine for our genetic problem. It never did a thing. We were told by 2 specialists to only use the Acetyl-L Carnitine and we switched. I have noticed a HUGE difference in my pain level, fatigue level etc.

I'll re-post some information on Acetyl-L Carnitine.

Here is just a bit.

Quote:
Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum

L-Carnitine and Acetyl-L-Carnitine

Low levels of the carnitine compound acetylcarnitine in the blood or muscles of people with CFS/FMS have been found by two different research centers. Carnitine plays many roles in the body. It has the critical function of preventing the mitochondria from being shut down when the system backs up. It does this by keeping a substance called acetyl coenzyme A from building up and shutting down the TCA cycle and the electron transport system, the cell's effective energy burning systems. Also, without sufficient carnitine, the body cannot barn fat (and makes excess fat), resulting in large weight gains. The average weight gain in GFS/FMS is 32 pounds!

L-Carnitine is a naturally occurring form of carnitine that is only found in animal flesh. Beef is high in carnitine. Carnitine can also be synthesized in the body. This process requires adequate amounts of the amino acid lysine, which is low in rice-based vegetarian diets (which, in addition, also have no carnitine). I suspect that the real reason many CFS patients who take lysine to prevent herpes outbreaks see their symptoms improve may be that this increases the body's carnitine production.

In my experience, and that of other clinicians, taking supplemental L-carnitine has not been very helpful, and D-L-carnitine can actually worsen symptoms. Taking 500 to 1,000 milligrams of acetyl-L-carnitine a day, however, can be very helpful (more is not better!). It has no side effects except for its cost, usually -- $1.50 for 1,000 milligrams. Adding 500 to 1,000 milligrams of L-lysine, which is cheaper, can decrease the amount of acetyl-L-carnitine needed. The body also requires vitamin C and B-complex vitamins to make carnitine. I suspect that most people can lower their dose of acetyl-L-carnitine after eight to twelve weeks -- for example, to 500 milligrams a day -- or even stop it. Any brand is fine as long as it is pure acetyl-L-carnitine.

Momof2 - I'm sorry to hear about your little plants. If you wanna try again, fill your quart spray bottle with clear water and add 2 Tablespoons of 3% peroxide and use that to mist your seeds and seedlings. They love it(seeds need oxygen to germinate) and it keeps nasty stuff away(wilt and dampening off) till they get bigger. good luck hope you get some herbs and flowers soon.
Hey, thanks for the tip! I'm going to give it a try as I just planted some more basil seeds. I got the rest of the veggies planted last evening.

Okay, I'm really far behind on the posts (back on page 3 is where I am), so I'm going back to reading to catch up.

Whew! I'm caught up with all the posts. . . I have to admit that I was doing a quick read.

Swinglow - Congrats on being down in the 220's. You look smaller than that to me and I think you are doing great!

Metqa - Your song cracked me up. I hope you got your place straightened up before mom came over. My place is a wreck right now. Both of my girls have boxes from their college apts. everywhere in my house and it is starting to get on my last nerve.

MG - I remembered when you posted about L-Carnitine a while back. I used to take it many years ago, but back then they recommended the tartrate kind for fat burning, but I cannot remember why. I would really love to take this as I used to feel like I had a little more energy when I took it, but it is sort of pricey.

Marsha - I got my veggie garden planted. We put the last plants in last evening, which were 1 summer squash and 2 zucchini and 1 gypsy pepper and 1 mexibell pepper. On Mother's Day, my DH and DD planted 4 tomato plants and 6 green pepper plants. We still have green beans to plant, but it is raining like crazy here. Unfortunately, I seemed to have picked up some poison sumac on my arms.

Mikki - Happy Friday to you, as well. I hope you get your stimulus check soon so you can get some new clothes.

Trish and Tom - I hope you are enjoying your vacation. Your granddaughter looks so cute in your avatar!

Dave - I have never lost while taking the combo, weight-wise. Good luck to you and your wife.

Hi Chic. Does the L-Carnitine give you more energy?

ADLMA - We had a good trip home and I was exhausted for days. I am finally over my illness, thank goodness.

Hi Lisa.

Paula, are you counting the days down to get your Wii Fit?

Hi Phil.

Thanks a bunch MG! Turns out I got the wrong one dang it. This stuff isn't cheap either so I'm going to have to finish off what I have now and then I'll try the Acetyl. I guess I'll be a guinnea pig until it runs out and see if it did anything. Oh and thanks for reposting the info too!

Hi Michele! Good to see you posting again. Hope you are doing well. I just started taking the L-Carnitine and not really sure if it's working just yet. My friend said it would take about 6 weeks to notice a difference but by then I would wonder if it was all the Kickboxing I am doing that will be transforming me. As you can see, I'm continuing to remain positive with all my thoughts. Did you ever make that focus board you were talking about with Marsha?

I have been taking carnetine for a few years now for my Fibro and it hasn't caused any weight loss but it greatly improves my energy especially before a workout.

That's good to know Lisa, so I guess it is good for energy. Michele asked about that. I'll definitely take it with my preworkout meal for tomorrow's Mui Thai class.

Hey Denise, Congrats on the new job

MG- Nice Photo! Oops I just got mine and I ordered L-Carnitine, no acetly. Oh well, next time. Yeah, thanks for the post, . . . see, I KNEW that stuff and still managed to buy the wrong one! Thanks for popping that back into circulation. Dang it, I think we had some at the store, at 70% off and I missed it, cause I "already had some"

ADMLA- Yeah that went okay for a while but I had to don shoes for my interview visits and I'd take them off and tool about the garden, but when I worked a shift at the store, I wore tennis shoes and I couldn't figure out why I felt so antzy, My feet felt cramped. So now it's about half and half, When I need em for work and free when at home. I like free feet, feels fun!

Thanks, Michele. I got the place straightened enough where Mom only gave me organization tips rather than outright slob lectures.

Edited to say:

Whoa, Whoa Whoa Whoa! Oh yeah, I just went back and checked! I DO! I DO HAVE Acetlye. Yahoo! Yay, Hee Hee , sorry.
