Way too much time on my hands!
|
does biotin really work?
I noticed a little thinning of the hair up front. I would like a consensus. If anyone is listening who has had good results I would like to know. Thanks, Love & Profits: FLATFERENGHI (hair today, gone tomorrow).

Non results for me.
When you lose weight your hormones adjust to the change in estrogen=hair loss. Eat your greens, but just putter through it. |

It worked for me, as well. I think it depends on what caused your hair loss. You also have to take about 5000 mcg a day to see results (which is a much higher dose than most take).

It works for me. You have to take a good amount though and it wont work over night. about. I forget what the amount is I take, I'll have to look when I go home. Give it a month or so to see improvements.

I noticed a difference when I started taking it. My hair felt thicker and my nails grew stronger and stopped breaking all the time.
Then I took a tumble with my plan and stopped taking them on a daily basis. That definitely showed. It seemed I was losing more hair after washing and my nails were breaking. So, just by that, I believe it was working for me. I take 5000mcg every day, plus a multi vitamin. |

I, too, had noticed definate thinning of my super-think hair. . .so much that it started to scare me (low-cal will do that to you!!) I added 5000mgc of Biotin daily since November and have noticed a big improvement.

no one could ever accuse me of going lo-cal....
for whatever reason the barely imperceptable hair thinning began, i suppose I could try the biotin for a month. Now for a follow up question: assuming i get results, can i stop taking it? There is still some biotin in my b complex tablets (i take 1 at each meal) and my multi-vitamin. Why is everything so complicated? I haven't noticed thickening, but my hair grows alot faster. I take 1000 mcg a day. I also have thyroid issues which obviously contribute to my thinning issues.

I've been taking Biotin 10,000 (yes, that correct...10,000 mcg) for months and I have seen absolutely NOTHING.
My nails are still brittle and peel. My hair is still thinning, especially in the front. But, I'll keep taking it, praying one day it will kick in. (Hopeless optimist, LOL! ) |

Where are the best places to look for Biotin ?? Is this a vitamin supplement sold at most any store ?? Are some stores better priced for this item ? Ive heard of it before and been told by my hair dresser to get it when she noticed the health of my hair. I never looked into it but now I am thinking it might be worth a shot. Couldnt hurt ;-)

It doesn't happen over night.
I think the very first thing you would notice is that hair loss slows down. You're not losing as much hair. You will notice this in the shower and in your hair brush. Now, think about it...how long does it take for a finger nail to "grow out"? 6 months to a year. How long would it take for a "Hair" to grow out? You can notice a difference in a few months (Like little hairs starting to grow) but your nails and hair won't be "Grown out" yet. I did notice some difference in my nails and hair (new hair growth) but it's nothing like right now. I have been taking it since May of last year. I never could grow nails. If I tried, as soon as I would get them to a nice stage? They would break or tear, and I would start all over again. Now? I actually have to CUT my nails back, because they grow too long. Same thing with the hair. It seems alot fuller now, but I'm sure the total results that I want will show up down the road as the hair gets Longer. Let's truly think about how Long it takes for a finger nail and a Hair to grow. Stick with it, be consistent. It's not a "Quick fix". Your feeding the nail and hair to grow properly and that does take time. |

Don't expect it to work over night! I took it for a month or more before I noticed a difference. Keep at it

I've been taking 5000 mcg 2x a day-not for hair but for my nails. I've had serious ridge problems for years. This prevented them from growing very long. IT WORKS! But it does take awhile to show any affect. Right now all my nails are long, strong and very healthy. My dermatologist is dumbfounded. I wanted him to remove one thumbnail because it had such a serious ridge it would split down the middle. He said the nail bed was permanently damaged and removing the nail and allowing a new one wouldn't solve the problem. I still have a slight ridge but the nail is growing great
The downside? I have to get my hair trimmed every 3 weeks-it grows like crazy!! I will never stop taking it. ![]()

I'm taking the 10000 dose too. I've noticed mostly that my eyelashes are now thick and longer
Also, I'm not losing as much hair in my comb, although if I drop off for a few days I'll see the loss come back. If you aren't helped by the biotin, you probably have something else going on. I'd suspect thyroid issues first, with a number of other things behind that.

Biotin does not help everyone. It depends on what your issues are. If it does help, it takes time (as others have stated). You also have to take a pretty hefty dose (at least 5000 mcg). It's very inexpensive and is easy to find.

Anyone taking Biotin that has "female "issues like PCOS - or hormonal issues and have it work for them? Do you think it will work if hair loss was a result of this? My DS isnt on a low carb woe, but has suffered some thinning and I've told her about Biotin ,and we're just curious if it may work for her. Thanks all!
