Question about vitamins

I've heard references to different vitamins that they are good for this or that. Can you guys tell me what you are taking and your effects from taking them. Does that make sense? The reason why I'm asking is I just got back from a week vacation and forgot to take my pills with me. I noticed no change in my energy level, my mood or anything. What I'm taking is a good multi vitamin (for 4 years), the cla/gla combo (for about 6 months), calcium (2 years), and fish oil (about 6 months). I guess I'm just wondering what's the point? Am I just throwing money down the drain with any of these?

People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.

We can't go back & make a brand new start but we can start from now and make a brand new end.

Hey Tomswife...

I think with many supplements (as with many prescription drugs), the effect is cumulative--it may take a while to "notice" the effects; too, the effects might slowly dwindle away when you stop taking (whatever pill) so that neither the starting nor the stopping has an immediate impact, but the ongoing regimen could very well have a positive effect.

I try not to miss days with my supplements, but if I did, I wouldn't expect to notice the effects right away.

If you feel that your supplements have been helping you, then you should keep taking them. But if you have doubts, maybe you should extend your "break" from then for a longer period and then reevaluate.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

Just my $.02

Bill

Timing & correct dosage are important, as is the form the supplements are in (pill, capsule, liquid, etc). Certain supps should be taken with meals, others between meals, etc. It can make the difference in seeing good results or no results. And with some it is difficult to know if they are doing anything for us or if we're throwing our money away.

Most of mine make a noticeable difference.

You reminded why I should buy those pill organizers for my trip next month! I feel better taking my Vitamins C, E, Fish Oil, Flax Seed Oil, Evening Primrose, and Multi-Vitamin.

Do they say on the bottle? Or are you just suppose to know. Most of mine say to take with meals. There are some that don't say one way or the other and I just take those with meals as well. I'm in the process of getting rid of most of my vitamins.

I never completely trust the bottles. Most of the time they seem to just say what is easy. Or are incomplete & don't mention what not to take at the same time.

Most of the timing info I have used is in The Diet Cure, by Julia Ross. It gives good explanations of when to take supps and why. Excellent book.

Taking vitamins are definitely a good thing to your daily routine but if you take vitamins improperly you may not get the full effect of the health benefits on your vitamins. In has proven in some research that in order to work the vitamins properly you must also take some natural health foods to achieve your wanted healthy body.

Buy a copy of "Prescription for Nutritional Healing"

That is the most common volume that they use in health food stores to help you out. I have tons of that sort of book, and they are never way out on a limb on dosage. Even the older editions were encouraging some low carb for certain conditions, back when that was VERY unfashionable!
