Supplements
Frequently, I advise folks to purchase high quality supplements. While I have favorite brands and opinions about such, it doesn't always fit the expectations or price range of other members here. To see if your supplement is what it states, I have found a resource to share with you. ConsumerLab.com - independent tests of herbal, vitamin, and mineral supplements They are a non-profit company that examines all kinds of supplements and food products for their purity and whether what's on the label is what's in the bottle. In other words, you want to buy co q 10 - are there contaminants in it (which consumerlab looked for) and is the amount represented to be present of the actual active ingredient in there. They report companies that pass as well as fail. You can check them out free and if you find it useful can take out a year's subscription for about $20/yr which gives you access to all their reviews. Also a good source for information.
My pro-biotic checked out by the way for those of you utilizing my advice! ![]()

Hey, thanks, Fawn. You always have such good advice, I'm always looking for your posts
![]() I wonder about the different brands of supplements I buy and the purity/strength, etc. Thinking of taking some nutrition classes at the local college. Got any classes you would recommend? I said THINKING about it....don't know yet. Just wish I had a broader knowledge of nutrition. ![]() |

oh thanks girls! You know Linda, I have taken Nutrition 101 at my local community college. The food pyramid is taught. What I would more so recommend for you is to research nutrition counselors in your area and search their web pages looking for speeches and lectures. Nutrition 101 is a basic science class for those looking for the credits in the medical field or looking at becomeing a dietician. Sitting through one of those semesters will do nothing but irritate you I'm sure. One must listen to the same low fat garbage that we are trying to avoid.
Linda, you will learn more browsing the weston price site than anywhere as it is a collaboration of several contributors. Last edited by fawn : 03-03-2008 at 11:39 AM. |

I belong to the Weston Price foundation and browse the site regularly. I just get frustrated and confused by differing opinions. Trying to find a way to lower my cholesterol for one thing, but not sure my cholesterol needs to be lower Doc and I disagree on several issues and I just now got on the bio identical hormones she prescribes and don't want to give them up. I don't seem to get along well with Dr's. ![]() |

![]() Anyway, my point is, as he was leaving and refusing his Docs Rx for a cholesterol lowering drug (his ratio was like a 3) the doctor said and I quote "YOU'RE GOING TO DIE OF A HEART ATTACK" When I heard that, it took everything I had not to call Kaiser. I was furious! My Dad's side of the family has inherantly high cholesterol through the generations but guess what? NO HEART DISEASE! I too subscribe to the WAPF. As well, follow Julia Ross, Sally Fallon and Mary Enig. Have my weekly broth on the stove as we speak! Quote:

nutrition & nails
Thank you so very much for all the wonderful info. This is my second visit to LCFriends & first post/question. Would you know of any common reason my nails are no longer strong/able to grow long/flake/etc.....all this is recent....have been LC'g with some falling off the plan at times for about 1yr. Hope you may have some insight, ahh yes some relevent info is that my hair is full & no probs at all. This situation is embarassing as I've always had great nails that I kept well manicured & now....ouch! Thank you for any assistance you may provide.................Twoile/Jeanne
